If it is an UK passport -NO PROBLEM . I have just renewed a British passport this week - Collected Wednesday 26th September. As long as you elect to collect the new passport personally , they give you back the old passport -UNCANCELLED , for ID purposes . You must take the old passport back to VFS when collecting the new passport . You hand in the old passport before they hand-over the new passport . They then cut off the corners on the old passport and hand it back together with a letter to immigration asking them to transfer your extension to the new passport . So , get your application in immediately AND elect to go to collect the new one personally .  I was amazed at how short a time it took to get the new passport ONE WEEK  from applying .good luck .

Where did you apply for your passport? I am running out of pages and will need a new one soon. I have extension of stay for retirement purposes on a non o visa.

Wouldn't it make more sense not to use said 'crude language' when talking about an animal that was involved in an accident that ended in the tragic loss of life and therefore negate the 'comical noises' to help relieve any potential offense!? Problem is there is often no other term for an animal in Thai language - no scientific classifications here, haha! I agree that understanding the language opens doors to better understanding the culture and the people and to assimilating more effectively and garnering more respect and decency from our Thai counterparts. BUT, if you can't critique and comment when it is clearly within your rights to do so, then how do we as people or a society evolve? Anyway you cut it, whether with or without linguistic or contextual understanding - profanity, slide-whistles and slapstick 'boiiiinng' noises HAVE NO LEGITIMACY being used in a report on a road-traffic fatality. END OF. Levity is fine in many situations, but coming from a national news station showing actual footage of the death of a motor-cyclist it is simply 100% unacceptable and would never happen in the majority of countries across the world.

This is Thailand and we could spend all day talking about things that would never happen in the majority of  countries accross the world.

Us farang will never change anything here, we can only try to understand the cultural differences ,behavioral differences and what here is acceptable and adapt. It does not mean we should have to aprove or like.

No. Someone died and they were laughing. Can you ever imagine in the real world, in lands without child-adults, laughing during a news bulletin about someone being killed on the road, for whatever reason? And how about the moronic sound effects. How does your knowledge of Thai explain that?

Being able to understand Thai gives oneself the ability to understand the cultural differences and assimilate into living here easier. This is Thailand and we have to adapt to living here,it can be difficult if you do not speak or understand language and context. The so called moronic sound effects are added to soften the use of crude language when the presenters are using the hia,ai hia terms.

  4. I watched the video and listened to what the presenters said and they did show compassion to the deceased and were respectfull. The laughter was in regards to the presenter calling the lizard by its nick name ai hia which is used as an insult in Thai.

I am glad that 27 years ago I began to learn Thai as it enables me to understand and not jump to conclusions like the majority of people who just assume something just because they heard some laughter.

You will need to formally change your address to Udon at the immigration office there.

You will need a completed TM28 change of address form and a TM30 form from your landlord.

I went with my girlfriend and had to show her Tabien baan and they filled the form out for me ,all I had to do was sign and pay the fine (prap) of 2800 baht which seemed a lot indeed more than the original extension but they told me it was because they had to contact Chon buri Immigration to transfer my details to Udon Immigration and from now on all my 90 day reports will be done in Udon.

I was encouraged to register to do my reports online.

Savannakhet would be the easiest if you could get an income letter from the UK embassy for any amount or source to go along with the 800k baht in the bank. You can get the income letter by mail. See: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

Otherwise you could get a police certificate to satisfy Vientiane. Info here for getting one. http://www.pcscenter.sb.police.go.th/eng/ You can get one by using an agent as well (click the button that says "By Out Source" on the left side of the page). Or you could get one while in the UK see http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx . Then get a medical certificate from any clinic here.

I assume you want to get the Non Imm O for the purpose of obtaining an extension of stay based on retirement.

The process is to convert your TV to a Non Imm O at Immigration which they will only do as a prelude to applying for the extension.

It sounds as though you've twice started this process at Udon, then not proceeded with the extension.

Naturally they feel you've wasted their time and tried to circumvent the system, so you've burnt your bridges there.

One option is to do the conversion at Bangkok, but you'll need a Bangkok address while it's processed.

Once you have the extension you can return to Udon but will have to file a formal change of address in order to make your 90 day reports there.

If I were to apply to change my tourist visa in Pattaya. How long does the contract for accommodation need to be. Previously I asked at Jomtien and they told me 1 month contract would not suffice.

The Police clearance in Bangkok may also be an option. Can I just walk in and apply?

If you are getting a state pension you get a single or multiple entry non-o visa from the embassy in London. If not perhaps you could apply for a OA long stay visa, The OA visa allow unlimited one year entries for a year from the date of issue. You would need a police clearance and a medical certificate plus financial proof.

To apply for a single entry  non-o in Vientiane you will need a police clearance and a medical certificate that you can get here. It takes as much as the 30 days  to get the police clearance in Bangkok.

You could get the non-o visa in Savannakhet. If using the money in the bank option you will need proof you are retired which can be a income letter from the UK embassy. If you can prove a income of at least 65k baht you would only need a bank book showing a small amount of funds in the bank along with income letter.

I have 1.2 million baht in a Thai account and am 50 years old. I previously converted my Tourist visa to a Non O in Udon but that option in Udon is not really viable anymore. I will soon return on a Tourist visa which I received today from London.

I just need to find out the best and easiest way to get a Non immigrant O . Previously all I needed was 800000 baht in a Thai account and a letter from the Bank.

  8. I have successfully applied for and received 2 non O visas for retirement purposes in Udon. However due to indecision and personal problems I have left Thailand with the view to going back to work in the UK before making the 12 month extension.

I know I have been foolish not only once but twice and now need to know how to obtain a further Non O for retirement purposes. I can not return to Udon  Immigration as they were not best pleased last time.

My thoughts are going to Laos Vientiane but am confused about the requirements. Where do I get a Thai Police clearance certificate?
