"He does not look like a fraudster to me"
that's why he was hired for this job.
we don't know much what exactly he did, but the photos just above show him doing much more than just acting for a video camera.
the thaiger's article reads like propaganda, presenting only one-sided facts to make us cry.
He is acting in all kind of events: charity, concert etc... The question is: did he know about the evil intentions of his bosses? If all his benefit was 15k $ - I pretty much doubt that he did.

this went certainly beyond acting.
thethaiger's article is very one-sided.
He does not look like a fraudster to me (unlike some other guys on the photos above). My guess, he did not know how bad the people who hired him were. I hope he will not be punished too harsh.

It has nothing to do with he being a Navy veteran and everything to do with coming from small town USA where most people are honest and think everyone else is the same.
I can easily believe his story and that he was duped. There has been no proof presented that he was a willing participant.
If these people were clever enough to dupe millions from some wealthy Thais, it is certainty possible they were clever enough to have fooled this man.
It is often enough to be just a ‘participant’ without that ‘willing’ addition in order to spend a lot of time in the prison.

I hate blaming ppl until there is a solid proof...but that ‘actor’ part sounds like a lot of BS. Former Navy veteran, then the owner of a trucking company suddenly becomes an ‘actor’. Many fraudsters would love to call themselves just innocent ‘actors’ in other people’s schemes upon being caught. Even if the American was so stupid and really did no think a lot about what he is involved in - still I don’t see him released any time soon. He did take part in the fraud.

I prefer Google, anyway. Thailand is not a poor nation anymore. Especially when it comes to Bangkok averages.

Empathy for what? Two fit and healthy young men who would rather take money from a struggling local than pay their own way for travel that the average Thai can only dream about. Give me a break!
‘Struggling local’ , ‘average Thai can only dream about traveling abroad’...
According to google Bangkok average wage is about 800 usd when in Russia it stands at 670 usd.

Thais consider it deeply wrong when farangs try to make any money of them. Opposite seems to be an absolute norm and even a must.

Life sucks. Bangkok sucks too.

I mean the level of everything. Education, emotional intelligence, social status in the country of origin and so on. Is Thailand a magnet for the western filth? Mostly the old one but some young too? And if so - why does this happen? Is Thailand a place for the perverts of all kind to compensate a bit for smth they could not get back home? Why there is no any serious scientific research dedicated to this very interesting topic? Ouh, I know. Many of those so called scientists are spending their scientific time in Crazy house agogo trying to barfine 17 y.o. farmer’s daughter for the half of the asked price.

That self-made hero had no right talking like that to Mr. Musk. The reaction was a bit harsh but quite deserved.

Vern was the one who timely pushed the alarm button through his note to the authorities.
There are many comments in this thread claiming he was a diver rescuing people from the cave. He was not.

How sad when 13 people’s lives were in danger and he has to come out with such a disgusting allegation over one of the brave divers who went in and rescued them . The fella should be awarded “ Turd of the Month “
???????
What was the role of this Vern guy in the operation? He is too old for being a diver. So I am almost sure he did not risk his life.

In this irrational world, closed and ignorant societies is all that's left from the past. Like those famous birds - they put their heads deep into the sands. As long as it works - they are happy.
But what you want to learn from them? First, it is impossible to be one of them. Second, it is a deeply immoral thing to wish being an idiot.

Just come and Thailand will eat you alive. First, your money, then your socks and then your body.

Good job Thai Police .
A lot of people do it for much less. The man is an animal. He would get into prison one way or another.

To be legal it should include at least 51% of local participants

Now that's a real crime!

Thai doctors are a disaster (from my own experience). That doesn't mean automatically that all other doctors are any better.

Those "bright" minds calling an operation "black whatever" must be kinda delusional about their own skin's tone. Ask some TV old timers to know what they think about it. Just don't tell them you have something to do with the police. Those cowards are like chameleons - they love police (no matter the color).
US Navy veteran locked up in Thai prison, family pleas for help

"Over six months, Keller acted in several corporate videos. His family says he was paid $15,000 to do so. After the job was complete, he told family he never heard from the company again, until a vacation to Thailand last August. Keller was arrested after he and his wife landed in Thailand for a vacation. "
Why would he ever visit Thailand again if he was an active participant of the fraud? No way.
