Well, after faffing around for 20 minutes last night, I managed to set everything up. I registered with Concept2 Log and downloaded ErgData. The Bluetooth connection between my mobile phone and the PM5 worked fine and I was able to sync. I still need a USB cable so I can check whether the software is up to date and update the same if needed.

Starting slowly so I only did 2 kms last night. A bit slower than Taveewat suggested. Will increase my speed as I get fitter. For now I will just plod.

Maybe you can use printer cable to connect your PM5 with labtop it have the same connectors.

You can test by install Concept2 Utility and sync with PM5 with the cable if it work fine you can save a lot of money to order cable from US.

I bought my rower when the PM4 was current, so perhaps that's why I had the USB cable included. Even now, with the PM5 which I bought last year, I use the cable to upload data to the online logbook. I tried using Erg Data, but had problems using it with my Android Tablet, but it worked well with my wife's iPad. As she's usually busy on her iPad I just use the cable connector. I gave up trying to use a USB flash drive with my PM5. It never worked properly. I hate messing around with technical gadgets which don't work when you need them when you're getting ready to do an exercise session. When I'm ready to go I like to get on with it and messing around with gadgets at that point really puts me off.

If you want the cable, it will be easy to get one sent from Concept2 in the US. It wouldn't cost much.

Another way to connect Ergdata is using cable, but you have to use OTG dongle attach to the android tablet. It doesn't cost much, just only 200 baht.

Fitness levels are not a problem for challenges. It's the total number of meters rowed that counts toward the team total and there's no information on performance.

The 3rd placeholders on this most recent challenge are called "age without limits" and many members are well into their 70's. There are over 200 members on that team and they rowed an average of just over 122,000m each for a team total of over 27 million meters.

The 4th place team is called "ANCIENTS" (in capitals lol) and many members are in their 80's. The team rowed a total of nearly 23 million meters. One 86 years old on that team rowed 606,000 meters in January. That's 3 times what I managed.

One person who really caught my attention is a 74-year-old woman in the ANCIENTS team who rowed over 2.5 million meters in January 2017. That's an average of 83,333m per day. She's up to 5.5 million meters for the season and has a lifetime total of 75 million meters (12 years of rowing). I don't know how she finds time to eat and sleep.

Rowing is truly an activity for all ages. It's a good option for older runners whose legs are wearing out.

Paul Randall 96 years old who join his ninth C-R-A-S-H-B indoor rowing competition in 2014.

His 2k time is about 11minute.

I was expecting that you'd get a bit higher. I finished just over 203,000m after my latest upload.

If I compare our team total of just over 353,000m, it's 24th out of all 2 person teams, so not too bad. The highest team rowed over 50 million meters. 40.03 million meters is once around the earth's equator.

How did you get a certificate before the challenge is over? It still has 30 minutes to run as of this writing, and in some countries, it still has 17 hours to run (until the end of January),.

Certificate can download since 16th Jan, just for team challenge type only.

Meter on the certificate will change every time you downloaded till end of the challenge period.

Yes, I rowed that on "just row", so it doesn't count as a 30-minute row for ranking purposes. The reason is that I had no intentions of rowing that long - I was going to row for 20 minutes, but then changed my mind. I usually just use "just row" when I'm not doing intervals. Maybe I'll go for 8000 m on a serious 30-minute row sometime soon.

Yes, my  Ergdata is logged in to my online logbook, but there's no way to sync. I get a message "Use Sync to send workouts to Concept2 Online Logbook"... but where is "sync, I don't see any "sync".

On the top left corner of page 3 ofErgdata app.

I can't sync data from Ergdata. I've been through all the instructions, but there is no way to sync. I've sent an email to support to try and sort it out. I synced a row I just completed with my cable and it's showing on your team challenge now. I did a hard 30 min row and a couple of recovery rows after that. That's a personal best for me. I was on "just row" thinking I would only do 5000m, but kept on going LOL. I won't be doing that everyday.

Did you registered your name and password on Ergdata? It must use username and password same as you registered on C2 online logbook.

I've seen your new PB 7800 meters in 30 minutes with 1:55/500m, WOW ?. It's very fast!!!.

If you row in single time mode , I believe you must have a good ranking on the board.

I'll be doing a row a bit later on - probably not 10,000 though.

If I use Ergdata will it show in the team total straight away? If I don't use the app I can upload my meters using the cable. Apparently, they need to be uploaded once a week during the team challenge period... or can you upload them everyday?

Yes, Ergdata can synce rowing lag as you using concept2 utility. You can synce data through Ergdata everytime you finished your workouts.

Many thanks for most of the responses.  Just to reiterate my question was regarding the quality of the brands of the home fitness equipment listed in Lazada.

Nevertheless an interesting debate so I will answer the questions as best I can.

I served in the British Army for 23 years so I know my way around gymnasiums and strenuous fitness regimes - I was once a very lean, mean, fighting machine.  I left 15 years ago aged 40 - weight around 76 kg - waist 34 inches.

Between the ages 40 - 50 I led a very active life globally with frequent travel, more parties than I can recall, but kept reasonably fit and exercised whenever able.

At age 50 my chronic gout condition turned dilapidating and has been an increasing problem for the past five years with more and more acute attacks putting me on my back.  I stubbornly thought rural doctors and meds could help me.  A big mistake.  This has led to less ability to exercise, though I do walk the dog regularly when I can for an hour in the morning and 30 mins in the evening in the woods (on his lead).

I live out in the sticks with the nearest town 15 km away - no gym.  The nearest city is 90 mins drive away (Phrae).  I recently attended RAM Phrae to address the gout, and the full medical reveals sky high bad cholesterol, slightly raised BP and hyperruricemia (=gout).

I am now 84 kg, some 8 kg heavier than when I left the army 15 years ago and now have a 36 inch waist.  I feel fit when not in pain with my gout/joints and reckon I could easily get back to 5 miles jogging with ease at 9 min miles. I do feel heavy though.

The gout is now being addressed having seen a real specialist kidney consultant as opposed to some rural quack who pretends. The med results concludes  a new fitness regime is needed to suit my personal circumstances.  Now here is the rub.  Where I live in the North, the thick smog from the burning season last year ran from late November to May.  I am talking SMOKE both from the locals burning the rice harvest straw, and the blown-in smog from Myanmar and Laos; polluted enough to make walking the dog for longer than 5 mins positively unhealthy.  You can forget bike and running.

So this leads me back to the OP if anyone can please help.  A gym is not available so I need to buy.  Just to reiterate my question was regarding the quality of the brands of the home fitness equipment listed in Lazada - does anyone have any recommendations which are good and which are to be avoided?.  Many thanks in anticipation.

If running is your favorite workout, Sole F63, F85 and BF fitness are treadmills brands that you can trust in quality for home use.

Maybe you can find at around 35,000- 45,000 baht, it not cheap but it's far better than treadmill from Marathon bran or others Chinese's brands.

You may find my sessions a bit confusing. I seldom do straight rows - perhaps only once a week. I use the rower to warm up before my weight sessions and do all kinds of Interval sessions that may look a bit weird on paper. The important thing is that all my meters (and my wife's too) will go to your team total.

My most favoured sessions are 5 minutes on the rower followed by 4 or 5 weight exercises (pushups, pulldowns, DB presses, shrugs, lateral raises, back extensions etc) in quick succession and then back on the rower again, for 4 to 6 rounds depending on how energetic I'm feeling. It's a killer! - because I tire out the rowing muscles with the weight exercises, making the rowing far tougher. I'm a bit older than you, so I normally train in the zone from 130 bpm up to 160's. I'm flat out once my heart rate hits the 160's.

I'm not have enough time to do both cardio and weight training at the same session. I row at the morning and do weight training at the evening.

Rowing is good for warming up especially before doing barbell squats.

I don't know what you mean by training partner. I already joined your team and the challenge a few days ago.

Edit: It's ok, I've got it - I just accepted. This is a separate thing.

Thank you, now we can see each other workout data through training partner menu.

I'm getting warmed up! I did my last row for the year - 10,000m. That was 6 x 5 min intervals, including rest meters. Your challenge will probably make me row a bit further than usual LOL.

Maybe Robblok will join your challenge - he puts in a lot of meters every month.

I just requested you as training partner, waiting your confirmation.

Hope to see Robblok join our team and welcome every rower from Thaivisa community.

This is even better. It is a little closer to my home.

I just saw an Airbike on that link you posted. I have never heard of these before. While I am looking to burn some calories, I would also like to tighten up a bit. Do you know anything about them?

Assault airbike and C2 rower are the most popular cardio equipments in crossfit gym.

Airbike is most using in high intensity interval training (HIIT) and warm up before weight training sessions, but not popular in long time cadio workouts.

I average about 100,000 - 150,000 per month, so you're welcome to have them. I added myself to your team. If I use the ergdata app whenever I row does my rowing distance automatically add to your team total? What about rest meters? Do they count? I do a lot of meters in the rest mode on time intervals? They do add to my PM5 total, but perhaps they don't count for your team challenge.

Welcome to Thailand Indoor rowing team?.

Yes , your distance will add to team total automatically. I'd never tried logging data in intervals but I thought it should count to team total.

You joined the team but you haven't signed up to the challenge yet.
