I finally stopped after the 3rd attempt (6 months each time) 6 years nicotine free now after more than 50 years, and before quitting completely was down to half a cig a day - seems sad now! My tip - slowly! First step, not in the house, second step not on the balcony, last step - not in the bar with your booze! (That was the hardest part!)
Not everybody has to quit. Your health issues are not universal. They are yours.

The obsession for health and hygiene is totalitarian in essence. Anti-tobacco activists, as well as all others who work so hard to transform society into a clinic, are the enemies of mankind and of everything that makes living worthwhile.
They'll have us all die old and healthy, of boredom.
All because they do not want to die. Humans should quit at 75 at most. After 75, everything in you begins to die.

There are thousands of them roaming Thailand. The police do not bother these folks thinking they are legit and of course, white. It is just a tip of the iceberg.

Depends on the numbers? This is LOS. It is not about the law. Its who did you screw.

My impression is that nowadays very little credit is available through any channel. No one wants to lend anyone any money. Even the most supposedly 'well-to-do' farmers in my area seem to be drowning in debt. I was trying to get hold of a guy down the road to see if he wanted to rent 5 rai of land. He had his phone turned off for days on end, and when I finally stopped by his house, his wife told me the reason was because he was dodging creditors. There used to be a loanshark working our area, but he seems to have been scared off because people were borrrowing money and then going to the police to complain about the interest rates they were paying.
I'm working on what I've dubbed the "chainsaw" economic indicator. People are so desperate for cash they are foraging for wood and cutting down trees every chance they get. The sound of chainsaws has filled the air in recent months. The early rains have triggered early planting activity, but drought fears are very real, and there's not much enthusiasm in the air. Just about the only thing planted anymore are year-round crops like sugar and manioc which can better handle unpredictable rainfall. With rainfall so iffy, even early season corn is a crapshoot; forget about late season planting. More and more kids seem to be fleeing town at ever earlier ages, whereas before they'd mostly hang around until they hit 18. Just the old timers remain eeking out a living for what I often wonder might be their final planting season. Migrant labor brought in from Isaan to do the harvest. There's a total absence of affluence up and down the food chain, all the way up from day laborers to the largest farmers and shops in town.
I wish I could write like you. I would have a blog or something. It's so refreshing.

Not really the safest way for a woman to act in a third world country.
If a woman passes out drunk in Paris after midnight, the same thing would happen. Don't put race into everything. You are probably very old. Go well.

I have driven here. Thais overtake on this bridge. At high speed. It does not help that the bikers aren't willing to cede way. I knew someone was going to get it. More will die here unless they add more lanes.

No, you're not a 'Viking'! Those hardy warriors ceased to exist over one thousand years ago. You are a European, old man. nothing more, nothing less! I don't consider myself to be of the "Iceni' people of East Anglia from all those years ago. They too were a savage people. I am European, thankfully - soon to be British again......Not Iceni.
Meanwhile, this 'British scumbag' - with a surname of 'Dali' and from his appearance, he seems to originate from Asia. He is on overstay, selling tours to keep afloat and probably came here from sponging 'on the dole' from British taxpayers. He maybe, in your words, a scumbag - but you qualify that by stating 'British'. Why?
I expect the Anglo-saxons thought the Vikings were scumbags too, all those centuries ago.
It appears people are catching feelings. ????????????????

Not colonized, but certainly invaded on a regular basis. The Burmese did it for a weekend away.
Any country that did invade ( Japan, France, Burma, Cambo and others) probably came up against the impossible immigration rules for spouse and retirement and decide NOT to colonise this shambles of a country. ????
Top of the shelf. I like how your brain works. ????

While Thailand's GDP (US$1261 billion) is about twice that of Vietnam (US$600billion) Vietnam's economy is going gangbusters while Thailand is just marking time. Thailand will eventually be left in the dust if the inflexible and ineffectual minds of the military continue to rule; it's prospects are grim.
It's US$223 billion Vietnam to Thailand's $455 billion

Living on earth and complaining about toxicity is serious whining. The universe is toxic. Everything is toxic. There is only 20.95 O2 content in the air. Any slight drop we are good as dead. Tobacco, alcohol, fast food, soft drinks, hard drinks, sitting on a needle, accidents, roof superman, kissing, running, eating, vegetables, laughing till people see intestines, smiling, winking, honking, etc. are all toxic and when its time to check out, its time to check out.

I used to smoke 40 a day and after many other attempts to stop smoking involving patches, gum, medication (champex) etc, an e-cig stopped me smoking cigarettes and ultimately i stopped using the vape as well..been 3 years now...so in my case a vape gave the exact result it was invented for
I always find it amusing that people find it hard to kick a habit. Here is one the number one killer method; stop buying cigarettes. Start knitting or something.

Hello Machiavelli,
Thank you for reading and making a comment on my earlier post.
I have always found Dr Mercola helpful on a wide range of health matters. I was 120 kgs, but have managed to lose 40 kgs. I am still overweight, but I feel much happier in myself.
I find his articles on vaping persuasive and that was why I gave a link to one of them on this thread in the hope that it might be of interest to other people. But it is up to them whether they vape or not.
If, after doing your research, you are happy to smoke cigarettes, and/or vape, then that is your informed choice and good luck to you. I hope you enjoy a long, happy and healthy life ????
Life is overrated. Let me know when some dead guy calls clamoring to be back on earth. I'll keep the line open for the next million years. Don't forget to call when the miracle happens.????

So is eating, crossing the road, over-laughing, guns, catapults, beer, wine, falling trees, cars, apples, sleeping, earthquakes, tsunamis, sticking finger where the sun don't shine, shouting "bomb" at an airport, etc. None of these is healthy. They kill more too.

If you google: “e-cigarettes Dr Mercola”, you will find plenty of articles by him showing that ‘vaping’, as it seems to be called, is not healthy either for the user or for the bystander, who inhales the vapours.
Here is just one example:
https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2018/08/29/vaping-health-risks.aspx
Gee. Big deal. The bystander, if by any chance they could cross the road, they could be hit by a car, or god forbid, shot by some road rage nut. There are many ways to die. Millions of people died will die today. Not all are smokers.

For the last 8 of those years I have taken bike trips every other month on my CBR 250, 300cc Forza and CBf 300 all over the north, northeast and central regions of Thailand for a week or so at a time. I am well aware of the road dangers here, from crazy drivers to a water buffalo suddenly darting out into the middle of the road.
When I'm one of the bikes, doing a trip, or just going into town, I know I have to be constantly aware of my surroundings and other drivers, whether they are on bikes, in cars or trucks, reminding myself they are all idiots out to try and kill me.
In that time I've had one minor accident, only a couple of kilometers from my house, when a guy in a semi suddenly slammed on his brakes and made a sharp left turn into some business, forcing me from the bike lane into the ditch at 60kph. Some minor scratches to the bike, but otherwise, no damage.Instead of you making the erroneous assumption that I don't have much experience riding in Thailand, you might, more intelligently, asked how much experience I have. I would be willing to bet it's a hell of a lot more than you have. But, I could be wrong.
And here is that best comment award from the Commentators Association of Thaivisa. ????

I think for the survey to be real you needed to add third criteria. I agree that anyone or group that is breaking the law is targetted.
The one thing we have seen from Big Joke is that he could really care who you are if you are breaking immigration law he wants you
Bringing race into the equation dilutes the main topic. You leave the impression that this is a racial thing when if you look at the areas and the people arrested it is not racial but criminal
Please do not become liberal American in your surveys playing the race card for sympathy
These posts meant to make caucasians feel better about themselves. It seems strange people find comfort in the denigration of others. But, I digress. Income letters were withdrawn and affect way more Caucasians and nobody talked about targeting. It's given another name. Good thing is Thai immigration will not bother anyone, whatever color, as long they are legal.
