Try Pattaya2u in Tukcom, in computer floor. Had my mac touchpad replaced there ( i guess they got original parts from somewhere, not sure). Anyway good reliable place to at least go ask.

They also have  a shop in alley behind tukcom

@mran66 Thank you. Pattata2u it is!

  2. Hi all,

Is there a shop in Pattaya that replaces Macbook batteries? Does not have to be an "Apple original battery". I am looking for a recommendation other than iCare or Studio7.

    Thanks for reading my post!

What are you talking about? The Certificate of Residence is not same as a TM30. The TM30 is free. The Certificate of Residence you need  for a driver's license and when you buy a car or a motorbike. I live in Jomtien, understand?

Please read also my tm30 report (post #19).

I just used the well-known fee for residence certificates as an example to illustrate, that different immigration offices have different rules/interpretations even though the law is supposed to be the same (to answer your "Why").

You are a foreigner in Thailand and have to submit a TM30. It doesn't have to be submitted by you. Why should a condo owner in Jomtien, Chonburi, who is not Thai, not submit a TM30? You are the possessor of the condo,as they call it.

Because that is what Jomtien immigration says (if on "retirement visa").

(Compare to the fee for a residence certificate. According to law there is no fee, but Jomtien immigration charges 300 thb. You basically do what they say ... )

    Same situation ...

I went to Jomtien immigration to get a residence certificate last week. Since it was not busy, I thought, it would be a good idea to do a quick tm30 as well ... (I had to wait 3 minutes in room 10).

I was told, if you have a "retirement visa" and own a condo, you do not have to file a tm30 report. (But she stamped and returned the receipt anyway.)

My previous tm30 was in September 2018, when immigration told me exactly the same thing.

  6. I'd like to "convert" my SETV to a Non-O in Pattaya (based on retirement, 800k in the bank already ...).

My 60 days will end on Aug 7 and my 50th birthday is also on Aug 7.

I read that I can apply for a conversion up to the last 15 days of the permitted stay. But when exactly can I start the conversion process?

    - Only from Aug 7 (would need to apply for a 30 day extension first)?

    - Or 15 days before Aug 7 (would not need an extension, that is save some time and 2000 baht)?

  7. because in theory you could have just transited in Bangkok from a different country.

I guess he ruled that out quickly. I forgot to mention the way I was greeted by immigration

IO:  "Hi [big smile]! What are you doing in Penang? Holiday or visa-run?"

I answered truthfully "both". After that he flipped through the passport and asked why I didn't have an exit stamp from Thai immigration. But I showed him the page with the exit-stamp and all was OK.

    Odd indeed.

  8. Hi all, Just FYI

Today I applied for an SETV in Penang. The consulate opens 9am, I arrived 8:57am and got queue number 10. Out 9:15am. Pickup passport tomorrow between 2pm and 4pm.

The consular officer asked for copies of my passport id page and flight out of Thailand. The officer did not ask for a bank statement. Visa fee is 150rm.

    PS

Uber works very well in Penang. Most 10-15 minutes Uber rides are around 4rm-6rm.

The Malaysian immigration officer at the airport wanted to see my exit stamp from Thailand. I have no idea why.

  9. Hi all,

Yesterday I arrived in HCMC with Flight FD650 at 9:30am in the morning and had enough time to check in the hotel and walk to the consulate where I submitted my application around 10:30am. Paid $40. Out 10:45am.

I had prepared all kind of possible documents :-) They only wanted to keep copies of evidence for: passport, flights in/out Thailand, and letter from condo juristic person that I live in my condo. They did not want to keep copies of my bank book even though I volunteered them.

I was asked to pick up my passport at 1:30pm today. I arrived 1:29pm and was probably #12 in line. Out 1:45pm. Plenty of time to catch flight FD655 at 6:00pm.

The consulate staff was very professional and friendly.

I booked a hotel in walking distance to the consulate. But with hindsight this was not necessary since Uber works very well in Saigon. Most Uber rides (cars with ac) were less than 45k vnd ($2) including "increased demand" surcharge. I tipped 5k per ride. UberMoto rides were quoted 12k (but obviously I didn't bother). Saigon felt like a small city compared to Bangkok.

    I'll be back in 90 days :-)

BTW the Vietnamese immigration officer asked me to show my ticket out of Vietnam before stamping my passport 555

  10. All, Thanks!

That pretty much answers all my questions. I will try to get a letter from the Juristic person (Good idea, thanks). A bit counter intuitive that the consulate prefers a bank book since "a normal tourist" probably doesn't have a bank account in Thailand ... Anyway, I will bring cash and book :-)

One question regarding the ticket out of Thailand is still open though. Can I book a ticket within 90days (60+30 extension), or does it have to be within the 60 days window? If nobody answers, I will have to book a "throw away" ticket within 60 days - I guess ...

Oh, and maybe as a bonus. If somebody has a hotel recommendation (near the consulate in HMC), that would be nice, too :-)

  11. Hi all,

I need to get a new visa next week. Since I have never been to Vietnam, I am thinking about going there.

I have a German passport issued in 2014 with only one SETV issued by the honorary Thai consulate in Essen - and one 30 days extension.

The HMC consulate website lists the following requirements

    • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
    • Visa application form completely filled out
    • Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph (s) of the applicant
    • Evidence of travel (air/bus ticket to and from Thailand)
    • Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family)

Looks straight forward but since the "visa rules situation" seems to be a bit fluid at the moment, here are a few questions.

Is the website info still up-to-date?

Obviously I will extend my visa again after 60 days and will get a new visa after 60+30days. Can I use evidence of travel within 90 days, or does it have to be within the 60 days window?

At the consulate: Evidence of adequate finance. Have to carry cash in thb? Or can I carry dollar (cash) or a bank book (with 300000 baht) instead?

At the airport:  cash thb? Or dollar / bank book sufficient?

The website mentions 2 working days for the processing of the application. Does that mean I can drop off my application before 10am and pick up 2pm the next day?

Just in case I go to Vientiane or Penang or elsewhere. Some consulates require hotel booking or rental agreement. I just bought a condo and got the Chanote and blue book. I could copy those obviously, however none of those ownership documents clearly "proof" that I own a condo? Bluebook doesn't have my name. And the Chanote only shows my name in Thai script. Not sure what other documents I could provide to proof I own a condo? Electricity bill (just got my first bill fortunately)?

Thanks in advance for your answers!
