Yes you are wrong.
Folk living in Thailand on annual extensions from a non O , non O-A, etc need to obtain a new extension each year.
Agents are sometimes used by some folk for extensions based on retirement.
I changed your thread heading to "Agents"
You seem to be on a witch hunt re particular agent

I have no idea who to believe. Which agencies are trustworthy in Bangkok for family visas? I have money. I just want someone, can be either attorney or agency, to assist with the process to make sure I have done everything correctly and help me if facing any problems. And I speak very little Thai.
What you refer to is Agent for hand holding.
You provide the correct funds in Thai bank account etc and agent simply makes sure that your paperwork all in order.
What is current status in Thailand, meaning do you have a non O or entered visa exempt etc.
Assume that are married to a Thai national

OP, this is a very black and white topic.
To put it simply the stamps are Real and genuine.
However the financial requirements have been avoided.
In many instances the stamps are not issued by immigration office where you live.
Suggest you read up on discussion of this topic and make your own call..

What's the best type of bank account to leave your money in indefinitely? Fixed Deposit?
You can use either.
In fact I previously had a FD account and savings account with the same bank.

If you enter Thailand with a single entry non O you will be given a 90 day stamp.
In the last 30 days of that permission of stay you would apply for 12 month extension.
On the date you apply for the extension the 800k needs to have been in bank account for 2 months.
Do you have a Thai bank account in your name only

Thanks for the info. I'll probably have to get an agent on the job; expensive, but a lot easier.
The only reason you're in a bad situation is due to rogue 2 month rule from Jomtien immigration.
I posted above same time as your post.
Given you have had ongoing extensions at that office you could ask them.
Re Agent. You could use your own funds and ask agent to step around the 2 month issue if possible.

No need to visit Jomtien to ask as I already posted the non-imm O requirement sheet they hand out. It clearly states 800k had to be in bank for 2 months prior to application of non-imm o
Still think a visit is worthwhile.
The OP has had continuous extensions based on retirement and immigration may overlook the (rogue) 2 month requirement.
As Pattaya City expats point out in this link.
The 2 months is Jomtien specific.

I would like the retirement route, but if immigration want the funds seasoned for 2 months, then it will have to be the 60 day.
No offense but that was not clear from the start. Why mention proof of marriage.
I suggest you visit Jomtien and ask if 800k needs to be seasoned for 2 months to obtain non o.
If answer is yes I suggest you obtain 30 day extension plus 60 day extension in that order.

Seems OP has had positive result.
Good news.

However, if I have to do that, please can you tell me what documents I'll need for the 60 day extension. If you think that is the best option, I'll do that.
I didn't realize that you had the required time up your sleeve so that not a problem.
The Non O provides a 90 day stamp and that's plenty to season funds for 2 months for the 12 month extension.
If Jomtien plays games and wants the funds in account for 2 months for the Non O application, you could obtain the 60 day extension.
Here is old thread re 60 day extension but still applies. Posts from ubonjoe always spot on

Thinking you have couple of issues.
You should apply for non O with 15+ days remaining on your permission of stay.
If required you can obtain 30 day extension or a 60 day extension to visit wife.
Has funds been in bank for 2 months.
True the rule is funds in account day of application However earlier this year Jomtien was insisting on 2 months seasoning

The money will have been in the account for nearly a year. Will do thei in Pattaya so assume they will only need to see the updated bankbook
Provided the funds (800k) have been in the account for 2 months you should be fine at Jomtien immigration.
Earlier this year they were insisting the 800k had to be in account for 2 months.
This made it impossible for folk with visa exempt entry to obtain non O
The actual rule is 800k in account on day of application. No seasoning required

I have a bankbook. Assume all I need, regarding the money, is to update this and show this to immigration.
You require 800k in Thai bank account on the day of application.
Unless the funds have been in the account for "some period of time" you would need to show funds came from abroad.
Which immigration office?
-
If you don't have a Thai bank account you would need to use an agent to obtain one or consider obtaining a Non O (retirement) from another country prior to entry.

If you plan to use income method why have any money in a Thai bank.
65k per month and you can use it as you wish.

Thanks everyone now I know I must look employ help from experienced agent sigh.
Just a heads up...all the car/bike joints (agents) such as Fat Boys and BSR bikes in Bangkok cannot assist you with certificate of residence.
Some embassies can supply equivalent but 3 embassies do not.
The agents in Pattaya can provide a residence certificate but that's not much help for you.

OP, you won't be able to obtain a certificate of residence from CW.
That office requires to have made a TM47 (90 day report)
On visa exempt not possible.
Even if it was, the process takes approx one week.
It's mailed out.
No instant service available

I think a extension is only possible if you come into TH with a non-O visa. Visa exempt should not be possible!!!!
Why nobody says something to this?
That's incorrect.
A non O based on retirement or marriage can be obtained at Thai immigration from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.
For tourist visa entry you use form TM86 and visa exempt entry TM87..
Here is forms requured.
staying up to 5 months in Thailand over winter VISA option ????
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Couple of obvious examples.
A SETV + 30 day extension followed by 60 extension to visit wife ...
Just one example of many.
I would consider a non O marriage (eVisa) from UK and then 60 day extension to visit wife
