  1. If I want to come to thailand and start living there for a while doing border runs, would I get approved for a tourist visa while I'm still here in USA? It says on the tourist visa application that you need a flight both ways but I wanna make sure. Would a tourist visa get approved with a one way flight, or would it be a better option to just come on a visa-exemption, and not apply for a tourist visa?

There is the stamp in the passport and likely in your record, but it should not affect future visits, unless you become a person seeking back to back entries on a regular basis and make an IO look upon you with suspicion.

People would worry more about being 'caught' in those couple of overstay days before getting to the airport, but that is unlikely.

Well i do plan on making future visits and doing border runs until I finish university and can get a work permit to stay without border runs. If I did indeed overstay 1-2 days would it effect me?

Typically, at the airport, you are taken to one side, regarded as an over-stayer, fined 2x500 baht, and get a stamp in your passport. Then off you go.

i'd be fine with paying 1k, but would it impact my future coming to thailand? like would they be putting anything on my passport like a blackmark? would i be interviewed the next time i come to thailand about my overstay?

US cash is acceptable, Thai Immigration knows the approximate value of it. Oskar, with a "k"; in my earlier posts I was guessing that you might be Filipino. They don't use "c" if they can use "k" instead.

How did you get a job offer outside of thailand? Or were you in thailand already on a tourist visa, and re-entered with the B visa?

    - when I came here from Canada, I had a job offer in hand from a Canadian agent, on behalf of a Thai School. I entered Thailand on a 90 day Non-immigrant "B" visa. This was extended to 1 year once I had obtained a Work Permit.

-To the OP: You didn't mention your country of origin-  This return/onward ticket requirement is sometimes overlooked, if you come from a developed, western country. (It is presumed you have, or be readily able to obtain, sufficient money to fly yourself home.) If you are from some lesser-developed country, you need a return ticket. Buy one, and hope that you will be able to throw the return half in the garbage, after you find a job.

    - and have B 20,000 in cash in your wallet when you arrive, to show that you can support yourself.

USA and on the visa application you show your bank statement anyways. and you mean 20k in baht in your own currency right?

Get a tourist visa, then find a job while you're here. Decent schools will then help you either convert the Tourist visa to a non-B and then ultimately to an annual extension/work permit; or give you the paperwork to apply for a Non B visa in a neighbouring country.

ok thanks and could u answer above question? if im buying a one way ticket, i cannot get a tourist visa right, because it requires a flight out of thailand? am i right on this? if so, i should just be coming in on a visa exemption correct? im from usa

it's highly unlikely any Thai formal, or non-formal, school is going to prepare and forward supporting paperwork for a non-immigrant B visa application before the person actually comes to Thailand. International schools are the exception to this.

As above, I recommend the 60-day tourist visa obtained from any Thai embassy or consulate.

Well i see on the requirements for a tourist visa is a copy of your flight information showing that you're leaving thailand. So would it be better to just book a one-way ticket and get the visa exemption stamp and do border runs until you get a job?

If they find them yes, they likely will and might confiscate most of it. If so you can get it back on your way out if the country.

Odds are your bags won't be checked.

Well on flights I bring my carryon and also a backpack. If I put the little container with the sleeping pills in my backpack, you think they wont check my backpack, just my carryon they check?

    Sorry, didn't catch that.

No problem bringing this drug into Thailand (it is also readily bought here, cheaply) just make sure it is clearly labelled as what it is. And limit is 30 day supply i.e. not whole suitcase full.

Little reason to bring much of this to Thailand anyway since it is so cheap here.

well i have the 365 capsules like i linked, you think they'd say something about that?

OK, so what you want to bring is available without prescription somewhere in the known universe (we don't know where you are).

The generic "sleeping pills" covers many drugs. Some are over the counter here, some are prescription only, and some will net you a nice stay in the slammer.

In order to give good advice we need to know EXACTLY what you want to bring.

EDIT It would also be useful to know if you are transiting through the Middle East where the rules are draconian.

  11. Just wondering if I'd have any issue bringing a bunch of sleeping pills in my luggage on my flight to thailand, i've heard sleeping pills are hard to get in thailand so dunno whether or not they'd be cool with it. Also, if the box is already opened like i've already taken a few of the pills, is that okay as well? Would I have any problems whatsoever bringing them in?

The only deny entry for those that have a long history of staying in the country on visa exempts or tourist visas.

No problem having a ticket out 3 months after arrival. Nobody will ask for the ticket other than the embassy. If you have a valid visa a return or onward ticket is not required for entry to the country.

ok and when i apply for my visa they should accept it right? even though on my flight information it'll say its a 3 month round trip? they will assume that im just extending it?

  13. 9 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

You cannot apply for a OA visa at immigration. You can only apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement after first applying for a change of visa status to get a non immigrant visa (category O) entry.

A OA visa in your case can only be applied for at the embassy or one of the official consulates in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles.

this isnt me. my questions were:

how often do they deny entry? what about my other option: 3 month round trip ticket but only have a 2 month tourist visa? would they deny that? cause i'd be extending my visa 30days

by the way, do i need to be writing anything on the self-addressed express return envelope? do i leave it blank or put my return address?
