    No.

I believe it's Retox themselves that have moved there, due to a contract issue with their landlord.

Not quite.  Retox have occupied the container next to the main restaurant building for a while, but have recently moved out of the main building.  I think the poster is referring to Lone Star Texas Grill where the chef and menu moved from their original premises to Retox Lengkee.  I don't know if they're still there since the downsizing.  Either way, it wasn't Smokey Joe's.

Basically Halifax are shafting you for 1,375 baht (£35). Not a lot as a one off transaction but these soon add up. Besides why would you want to give money away, your missus can make use of it ????

The poster you quoted wrote he transferred in GBP so the exchange would be done by the receiving bank in Thailand, not by Halifax.  Overall it won't be as good as Transferwise to a Thai bank account, but not as usurious as you make out.

I have a Bangkok bank account and don't get charged for withdrawals if I use the banks own machines, if I use an other banks machines then I get charged a nominal 20baht.

You are allowed a limited amount (only 4 or 5 I think) of withdrawals per month from other banks' ATMs without being charged.  I think I read on here that this was implemented around a year ago.  I've certainly experienced it on my last few visits.

Halifax Clarity Credit Card, linked to Halifax Account online gets Bank mid-market rate (better than ANY other transfer rate) and NO charges:

    1. Go online and transfer at least as much as will cover amount being used plus any outstanding balance on the card from Bank Account to Credit Card  (or can be done as item4 below)

    2.  Go to own bank currency window and withdraw in BAHT against Credit Card

    3.  Deposit all that you wish in Thai Bank account

    4.  Go home and check Pending Transactions on Credit Card tomake sure you have transferred enough to cover plus a bit

    5.  Check back daily for exact rate obtained.

Cash withdrawal attracts NO charges when foreign.

Cash withdawal attract interest from next working day unless all paid off...hence 1 and 4 above.

Aqua Card also offers same rates, but cannot have funds preloaded to create positive bakance.  Several Premium Credit Cards offer same - but you will be aying Annual Fee.

No Credit Card, then TransferWise most likely best option.

No. 1 contravenes the Ts & Cs of the Clarity Card - do it often enough and the funds will be returned from whence they came and/or they'll close your account.

No. 2.  Banks currency windows offer poor exchange rates.  Far better to request a cash advance on the card from a teller, where you'll get the Mastercard rate, but not all banks/branches allow this.

Tandem card is a non premium card which offers the same service and also gives 0.5% cashback.

TM6 online I tried the Website and the App. App wont save when you get to the confirm and website doesn't react when you confirm at the end also doesn't show anywhere to print from or save.

    Help anyone!!

On the front page when you load the app there is a button labelled "Your Files".  In a previous version, completed TM6s could be found there.  Please let us know if you find it there and if you manage to print it.

Up to others what they do but I always have at least 20k cash and a return ticket. I don't have hotel bookings as I don't need them.

Eh?  In the circumstances being discussed, if the OP didn't have a hotel booking he wouldn't be issued the visa.  Same for the return ticket.  The 20K on entry is agreed above.

Please don't use your situation to muddy the waters.

This info from the Thai Embassy in Australia's website is not helpful to the OP applying in the UK.  The visas available are not the same.

So you need a minimum of 120 days incountry, and twice I had to have 150 days incountry. That simply doesnt fit my work patterns. Easy to say 'take a single and extend'  but for people who dont just sit around watching the flowers grow, thats not always possible.

Do they take your passport during the period the applcation is being assessed?  I have flexibility as to when I travel so could potentially do the process over a couple of visits.

Always fly Emirates or Qatar, the latter is the better of the two imo. If you're having a stopover the Qatar airport is waaaay better than the UAE one too. Booze is no issue, it's still available on the planes and in the airports.

Just returned to the UK with Qatar for the first time after many trips with Emirates.  It might just be familiarity on my part but I would say the opposite from you in that Emirates are the superior airline overall and Dubai airport beats Doha airport hands down.

Doha is reportedly poor for booze during Ramadan but no problem in Dubai.

Exactly my issue.. They just repeat 'extend incountry' but fail to process that extending is impossible without 120 days to do so..

Can you expand on this?  What is the procedure and timing for extending a Single Entry Non Imm O Visa in Thailand?  Or where can I find them?  I may want to do this soon.

In the drop down section of your transfer in the section stating the reason for transfer go to the bottom line "to suit Thailand immigration" click on that and no more worries it will show as FTT all the time

Transferwise themselves have already said it's not guaranteed.  If the regular path used to obtain the FTT code has a malfunction, their systems may automatically use another path which doesn't. Essentially this is what happened in July when the problems arose.

I understand, that my pension company only need a death certificate and then they will pay her widows pension into the joint bank account.

Both yourself and the OP may be advised to find out what happens to a joint account on the death of one holder.  If it gets shut down then best to open another account in your wifes' names now.
