If you didn't know it already, this makes pretty clear just what present Thai authorities think of their responsibilities towards retirees with 'Non-O' visas and extensions, bought in good faith.

I renewed my 1 year non-o extension back on 11 September. I didn't bother getting multiple re-entry permit this time because as we all know that privilege was taken away of no fault of our own. No prorated refund either for the money we paid in good faith. As far as I'm concerned immigration robbed all of us and I will NEVER pay for ANYTHING in advance to this government again! I feel so sorry for everyone that owns property here and can't return. Needless to say let this be a lesson learn for everyone else in the future NEVER invest money in a business ir buy property here!!!

As suggested before, Trip Advisor, etc, should have a disclaimer stating that negative reviews of hotels can result in jail time and even prison sentences. The irony being that hotels would kick up a stink and threaten websites like Trip Advisor as that would make Thai hotels look bad and the truth is never an excuse.

As for people who think the actions of the hotel were justified, here are some headlines from big news publications about the story:

"American faces prison in Thailand over bad hotel review" - the Guardian

"US man faces jail in Thailand over hotel review" - BBC news

"American could face prison in Thailand over negative reviews of a resort" - The New York Times

And it goes on. I wonder how bad these headlines will be for all of tourism in Thailand compared to the three published comments the American made?

Seems TAT might be looking to sue someone as well.

Perhaps this will help stir up the pot on dual pricing as well. ????

Stop whining and show immigration the passport. What's the problem?

The problem is inconsistency from different immigration offices around the country. on my landlord try to register online after 30 days he never received his login credentials. So he went in person to file the TM30 report. He wasn't asked to provide my original passport and was simply given the stamped receipt without any problem.

Said from the side of a male supporter for female prostitution. A victimless crime? How do you figure that?

Do you think all the girls you see in the bars in Pattaya, Bangkok and many other places in Thailand that offer the possibility to go with them (sex included) had that on their list of wishes in life? Are you sure that it´s a victimless crime just because they can´t report it or that they do not have any physical scars or marks? Hoe do you define a crime? Is that a person breaking the law or a person that causes harm to a victim according to your definitions?

In many cases the girls that offer this kind of services are young and lured by other friends into this business, with the promise of riches and a great life. Many use drugs to cope with their situation in life. many are also mentally unstable and easily falls into deep depression, but still with a smile on their face to the next customer.

Why do you think so many bargirls that offer prostitution comes form poor areas in Isaan and have poor education? They are of course victims because they are basically forced into this line of work out of the feeling of need to support their families. I am not saying that there are not girls working with prostitution that actually likes it and see it as the good part outweighs the bad. However, most a not comfortable with what they are doing and therefore they are victims without a real choice in life.

Soooooo.... The real criminals are the culture, government, and economic model? Oddly enough I have never seen prostitues so readily available in western countries.

A work permit and EOS based on work doesn't stop the 90 day reports, although you can allocate a staff member to do those, no bother.

I must admit, I have no idea why anybody would get a non-B when it is easier to extend based on work, normally this is done when immigration won't issue an extension, due to missing documentation, salary not enough etc. ME non-b visas are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain and I would not be surprised if they abolish them altogether in the not so distant future, with the aim of making people get an EOS.

I really don't understand why they say "salary not enough" when the daily minimum wage in Thailand is approximately 350-370 baht per day...

Never buy anything your not prepared to leave behind, keep a suit case packed, this is a country that cycles through military coups every ten yrs or so, No need to buy anything large as is so cheap enough to rent - If does go Pear shaped pick that suitcase up and just get on a plane out of here...

Cheers Eddy (from Wigan) 13 years later and all holds true

Yes I agree! Never get attached to anything or anyone you're not willing to walk away from in 30 seconds or less ????

They want to get rid of Western bums who behave like the masters of the universe in Thailand when in fact they're losers in their Western home countries.

Why does my intelligence and financial planning abilities that made it possible for me to retire years before my social security starts make me a looser? Are you angry me? ????

I have not found it difficult to retire here, been on a retirement visa for 7 years now.

The big mistake many retirees make is to sink all their assets into Thailand. I've always operated on the principle 80% of my assets stay in Australia.

My only non-liquid assets here are a secondhand car and secondhand scooter. No big loss. My funds in several banks would be withdrawn lickety-split, and converted to currencies which are not printing more money, or gold. I could do that in the 7 days the authorities give if they are kicking someone out.

I'm sure my contribution is appreciated and valued by my Thai GF and her family. The Thai ruling class and their opinions are irrelevant to me, it's only the regulations I have to watch out for.

I'd agree that so far, retirees who have been caught outside Thailand have been treated badly. It's not as if they are in an age group that is reckless with coronavirus, unless they are Trump supporters.

My situation living in Thailand is exactly the same as yours with one exception, I AM a Trump supporter! So my question is, what pathetic reason do you base a persons political point of view on in this forum? Perhaps you are on of the many that are angry and bitter from being cutoff from my tax dollars?

It’s not surprising that some farangs live in Thailand yet complain every day how bad it is

go home ! No one will miss you

Thailand has done an amazing job at protecting us from Covid unlike USA or even my home state of Victoria, Australia

Yes it's what we do. And who made you the moral authority to pass the same judgement on us for complaining? Self proclaimed I'm so sure ????

    A good question indeed.

Is the Virus among us at  all times, and this guy was only found to be Positive due to a Policy of testing all people who are about to enter Prison.

Or, has he been in contact with a " Super Spreader " who is still walking the Streets completely unaware that they are the source.

Or, is the Virus in the Sewage system of Bangkok

All these possibilities, and more need to be investigated, and quickly.

I suppose we will now see how good the Thai Authorities really are at dealing with these situations. With 600 people having to enter State Quarantine, this will be a good practice session for the return of Tourists.

At whose expense are these unsuspecting 600 people going into quarantine? Why should innocent people walking around in public before it's to pay for this? Oh I forgot this is Thailand...
