Sounds like something Donald Trump may have written.

  2. Apparently there are lots of packets of Uncle Ben's rice left on the shelves in British supermarkets.  I saw one photo of a completely cleaned out supermarket aisle except for one small section containing packets of UB rice. That says something.

for anyone interested the Wife sent me this for Covid 19 insurance only, dont know if just for Thais  or  not  but some choices there

I wouldn't hold your hopes up for these COVID-19 insurance policies. My Thai friend in the business said that there was such a rush of people wanting these policies that all the companies listed have stopped issuing COVID-19 policies. Best if you double check this info as something may have got lost in the translation.

Frank is in English , but could not see the fine print .

i do not see why you could not buy more than one, but unlikely they will double pay, if anything use it as an excuse not to pay at all

This was answered by a former Insurance agent based on his experience in another thread.  Insurance companies exchange client details to avoid duplicate claims.  This can result in a dispute between insurance companies as to which company pays out, which can end up in neither company paying.

  5. My condo has stuck a clear plastic sheet over the lift buttons.  Easy to clean the surface regularly. Just don't cram yourself into a full lift.

Perhaps somebody could comment on the waste water and toilet discharge systems commonly found in Thai condos.  is there any reason that the virus could travel up/down from an 'infected' condo as happened in Hong Hong during the SARS outbreak?

And is there any infection risk in using the condo swimming pool?

  6. I once nearly got tickled to death by a caterpillar.

I sat down on a wall near Sapa, Vietnam and must have brushed against some foliage. Within minutes I was itching like crazy and my whole body came out in a blotchy rash. I eventually found the culprit attached to the outside of my shirt. It was a harmless looking caterpillar whose hairs must have passed through the fibres of my shirt.

I managed to walk back to my hotel where I swallowed a few anti-hystamines and lay down. After about  6 hours I got up and went out for beer none the worse for my near death experience.

  7. Same problem for me. The phone app is not working. I have tried to do on-line but the point of entry question lists 247 options all in Thai. I can read Thai but I gave up trying to find Don Meuang as you cannot easily scroll down a list, just painfully search page by page.

I tried a random point of entry but it failed.

Any tips from somebody who has used the on-line method (today).

  8. The last few times I have flown from Don Mueang  I have walked the length and breadth of the arrival area in search of a shop that sells English (BP) newspapers.  I have even walked up to the cheap food court and the 7/11 at the end of the domestic terminal where the 'tube' walkway tunnel to the car park starts. I have also explored large parts of the departure area.  But nowhere is there a newspaper shop that I could find.  Has anybody else seen one?

  9. The BTS station Bearing came up for a lot of discussion a few (>5 ?) years ago. With a bit of research I showed that Soi Bearing was named after the ball bearing manufacturing workshops located on the soi. And in fact there is still at least one bearing manufacturing factory that still trades on Soi Bearing.

  10. My experience last month:

Tax letter from TMB took less than 5 mins

Fill in tax form at tax office (by nice lady behind counter) took about 10 mins.  I had a TIN issued already.

Wait about 10 days for the refund letter to arrive by post.

Go to Krung Thai bank with letter, passport, TIN card and photo of my condo Chanote containing my name in Thai (easier than asking the bank teller to do the transliteration from Roman to Thai script). Time to issue an e-wallet card took about 10 mins.

Got to Krung Thai ATM and withdraw most of the money took about 5 mins as the screen is all in Thai so needed a bit of a help.

Go to Thaniya spirits and buy a bottle of whisky with the refund took about 10 mins

Problem?....What problem.  Just need a bit of perseverance hic! hic!

  11. or Siem Reap in Cambodia where it's so blissfully quiet, you can hear the rats shagging.

You must be joking......try living near one of the many temples and enduring all the temple 'music' from the 3 day funerals.  As soon as one person has been dealt with another pops up!

  12. Cashing the 'cheque' tax refund letter is not possible at Bangkok bank so I walked over to the Krung Thai bank. After the usual 'work permit' question which I do not have I was told I needed my TIN tax card, even though the TIN number is on the letter.  So today I tried again and was pleasantly surprised that they issued me with an e-card and I could withdraw my money at their ATM machine (minus 56 baht left on the card) all within 20 minutes.

Note in addition to your passport and TIN card it is helps if you can show them a copy of your name in Thai. Luckily I had a photo of my condo chanote which simplified the whole process.

I now have a half decent bottle of Single Malt whisky added to my collection. It was worth the effort after all.
