  1. I am UK citizen, but tax resident in Thailand. I get a UK state pension which I pay tax on in UK, I also get a small Norwegian state pension, which I pay tax on in Norway. I have savings in my UK bank account, where my pension is also paid. Can I claim that any money brought into Thailand, is from my savings, and any top up to my savings is from previous years pension payments, not in this year? Similar with my Norwegian account.
  2. Thanks for all this info Mike, really appreciate the effort you have put into it. Unfortunately, i am still a little confused, I get a uk state pension, and a small norwegian state pension, both of which I pay tax on in each country. As the UK and Norway have DTA with Thailand, will I have to pay Thai tax on any money I bring into Thailand from either pension. I only transfer money as needed apart from housekeeping for my Thai wife, usually from an ATM. Apologies if this has already been asked, but have been unable to read all 13 previous pages, only the first 6.
  3. Thanks for the info, I had read that but am still confused, as I don't have regular bank transfers, and in many cases just draw from ATM with uk bank card how does anyone know what tax I will pay?
  4. I am 77 year old in Thailand with visa extension by marriage (to Thai lady) I get just over £1000 per month from uk state pension, this year I will exceed the tax threshold and will pay tax on my pension. I do not transfer my pension to Thailand, only transfer enough for household bills and some extra spending money, unless have some expensive outlay for repairs to car etc. How will the tax affect someone in my position? Will I have to account for all money I transfer to Thailand, and go through the Thai tax return?
  5. Completely confused now! The thread started off about the Thai government wanting to tax money coming into Thailand. Then it diverged into the long term visa, then into stocks and shares????? If I pay income tax on my UK state pension, which is then paid into my UK bank, do I have to pay tax on money I transfer from that account to my account in Thailand? A fairly simple and straight forward question...I don't have any other income.
  6. What about tourists and others who rarely use the tolls? do we have to buy a pass "just in case"!
  7. Tried to fill in the petition, but it doesn't seem to want to accept my email address
  8. I would think, the best way forward is to go to your local Imm. office, if you can and ask them for advice on what documents you need. I've just renewed my visa by marriage. The rules have changed from last year, and they are going to change again for next year. The immigration officer advised me, for next year, go there and ask what documents and actions I will need shortly before applying.
  9. I was taught when younger, many, many years ago. "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything." So many folk on this forum must wake up in the morning and think (if they actually do think), what can I be annoyed about today? All the negative comments about someone receiving some medal! If that's what floats your boat carry on, but I bet there isn't much mirth or laughter in your households. Bunch of miseries.
  10. I can understand nightclubs being closed as they are usually in an enclosed space. But lots of bars are completely open at the front or sides, some only have a roof with shutters put up when they close. Most people (not all I admit) that I socialise with are double vaccinated wash hands and wear masks except when eating or drinking, why can't we go to a pub and have a couple of drinks? If you can socialise in a restaurant, should be able to socialise in a pub!
  11. Unfortunately, I haven't read all th previous pages. I have an O visa and am married to a Thai lady. If I have to leave Thailand for medical reasons and return in 4 months, with my re-entry permit, tell them I am only here for a month then have to return to UK for further treatment, will I only need the insurance for that month? I will have a return ticket for the date, which I will change once I am here, so I can stay for the rest of the period of my visa, then just have it renewed as normal.
  12. Not everyone lives in Bangkok, and many can't get there. You obviously do, so shut up and think about others!
  13. Blah, blah, blah, I'm a newbie in Thailand, only been here 6 years, but even I know that you can't believe a word this lot say. If you believe what they say you must surely believe in fairies!
  14. No matter how many bolts or padlocks they use on the stable door, it's no good now the horse has well and truly bolted months ago!
