I was in Uthaithani in 1975 as a Peace Corps volunteer. I had friends who were policemen. Chada's older brother, Chaiyos, also known as "Phet Boon", was involved in drug smuggling and other illegal activities, as well as being an overall bad person (an "andaphan" ie, an infamous criminal). He was killed after I went to Uthai. I never met Phet Boon, or Chada or his sister, or even knew that they were all from Pakistan.

A Thai friend of mine who is a naturalized US citizen is working in Qatar as a contractor with the US military. He wants to import his 1997 BMW Z3 from the US. Is it still possible to import a car and pay duty on it?

I had an approved METV from the Thai Consulate in LA, but when I arrived at Suvannaphum and showed the paper to the immigration officer, she asked where the paper visa was and had to call over her supervisor (she was going to give me only 30 days on arrival as well). When I explained that I did not have to send my passport to the consulate, their heads exploded. He had me go to a waiting area while he took my printed out evisa and asked his superiors. At one time, a thai immigration police general (at least that's what I thought he was from the fruit salad on his shoulders) came over and asked me about it. Long story short, after 10 or 15 minutes they finally figured out that they had the approval all along. I don't know what I would have done if it weren't for my Thai friend who has worked as a private security supervisor for several airlines and who knew all of the immigration officers. An example of TIT, where a policy changes but the relevant agencies aren't notified. Now I wonder what border immigration will do.

I have had my eMETV approved, but I am wondering how this works. Does the Thai Consulate (in LA) forward the approval to Thai immigration in Bangkok so when I get to the immigration booth they will have the approval, or do I need to take a copy of the approval with me? I will be entering Thailand on October 3. Thank you.

I am 70 and had a prostate biopsy in January, but even though it found cancer cells, the urologist said that it was extremely small and that I wouldn't have to worry about it for 50 years. He did suggest that I do an MRI for it, since he said that it would detect possible tumors that both the PSA and biopsy would not reveal.
