So this is a worst case worst case scenario! What about the worst case worst case worst case number?
Good to see the TAT back in business throwing random numbers around.
Maybe a good time to woo the expats living in Thailand to stay in Thailand?
Every expat, on average, brings 50,000 Baht into the country, every month!

Not sure the country will ever recover from the government of Prayut.
At least with Covid, you can minimalise being infected with it, masking, social distancing etc.
With this government, even the Thais with a legitimate vote at the polling station, could do nothing to stop the shambles in charge now !
You mean the Thaksin governments were any better?
Really?

In the 15 years I have been living in Thailand I have never met "do you know who I am" westerners.
Are you the type of westerner known as "away with us" types?

Foreign tourism is necessary to boost the economy. What's tthe point if most of the money is going elsewhere?
Exactly.
Where is the Chinese money going?
Or rather staying.
Western tourists directly pay the underlings, no squeeze for the biguns.
China tourists directly pay Chinese companies, squeeze for the biguns.

CHINA CHINA CHINA CHINA
The countries obsession with China is horrendous. This economic disaster Thailand is facing is because of China. Yet there they begging them to give them more.
Who is begging?
It isn't the country's obsession.
It is the leading group's obsession.
As in "us is us".

It's their only opportunity for a paying job at the moment, so no surprises there. Once the economy is back on track, there will be lesser volunteering as before.
Not entirely true.
The number of volunteers is steadily rising since a few years.
In Khon Kaen before it was nearly 50% volunteers already.
Have no idea what it was last week.

Every farang married to a Thai could leave tomorrow and it would make no difference to the country at large, though it would be an individual tragedy for all those Thai families with farang ATMs.
Not single handedly.
But now suppose every expat farang brings in 50,000 Baht.
Suppose there are 100,000 expat farang.
Now do the sums.
100,000 X 50,000 X 12.
60,000,000,000 Baht per year.
And then the investment in houses, cars, motorbikes etc, etc.
You think that makes no difference at all?
For that amount you need a hell of a number of Chinese tourists.
A former provincial governor knew better and wasn't afraid to say so.
He thought that every farang expat brought a job for 2.4 Thai.
Legal jobs, outside the Pattaya kind.

And that is a surprise why? Of course it's all BS, we know it, they know it, everyone knows it. It's like a young child telling a lie that is transparently untrue, but keeps on telling it, because they so want it to be true.
It is, in one word, SHAMEFUL!

Nobody forced them to use private hospitals.
Would have cost them nothing at the local government hospital.
Or they could have purchased a packet of Loperamide (Imodium) for 20bht.
I agree about the choice of hospital.
But imodium might help.
Or not.
And then you need something else.

What about the high speed train to Chiang Mai ?
Forget it.
Like Thailand should forget high speed rail
It will never be profitable AND will spell doom for the existing railways.
Better would be if all that money was invested to upgrade the existing lines, make them suitable for higher speeds, buy talgo like rolling stock, plan more trains.
Metre gauge can easily have 150-160 km/h top speeds and with suitable track, signalling and rolling stock even higher speeds are possible.
Much cheaper as so-called high speed rail running on a top speed of 200km/u, which needs everything new, including very expensive signalling.
Investors know this very well, and also that the number of passengers for the high speed trains will never give profits while the HSL will also eat away the passengers from the existing rail.
The only reason the Chinese want the high speed trains is strategic.
And of course saddling Thailand up with huge debts is always handy for China.

Maybe do some research.
The FBI is a good source of information.
Yes, more white people, in numbers, are killed by police, simply because there are more white people living in the USA.
Proportional, percentages I don't know.

Are you serious?
Do you really believe what you say?
You have no memory, don't remember the "democratic government" á la Thaksin?
Democracy, Sir, is something highly overrated, while it has been degraded to once every four years a totally useless vote because the political elite, from whatever side, will just do what they want.
If there would be another government, never mind the colour, the problems for the "little people" will remain the same, or worse, but never better.
Not only in Thailand, but nearly everywhere in the world.

I am afraid Thailand chose profit for a few big companies instead of profit for many by gambling on Chinese tourism and slowly erasing the goodwill and moneystream from the "farang".
The Chinese, in genetal, book a trip to Thailand in China, travels with a Chinese company, stays in Chinese owned hotels or condos, eat in Chinese owned eateries, and the poor people get nothing.
The only money stream is from China to some big cats in Thailand.
I am so sorry for the people that were able to earn a living out of tourism.

At last!! Someone in authority who not only has indentified the problem but explained the pitfalls of dual pricing.
Tanse Petsuwa, you've bought a tear to my eye
Does that also include the double/triple pricing for foreigners in Government Hospitals, even those living longtime in Thailand and paying taxes in Thailand.
Maybe they also should do some heavy thinking how the rather worthless insurance offered for foreigners does "benefit" state hospitals?
