    Terrible news!

I've lost a good friend who had a heart problem and was then in a vast room of Sappasit hospital Ubon R. with around 20 other patients who had almost all contagious diseases, including lung infections.

He died on the same day after he received urgently needed blood that we found from donors through TV.

It turned out that he had four different types of lung infections, and even one of the doctors told me that I shouldn't come to visit, it would be too dangerous.

The irony was that we found a single room for him, but he had to be in intensive care after the second lung infection.

We had no other choice. I wish I'd have known that before.

"My country doesn't have enough money to separate patients with contagious diseases" were the doctor's words.

I've even seen a live operation in the middle of the night, right in the middle of the room, done by an Indian doctor who seemed to help out.

I hope that he'll make it.

Thai hospitals are in no way up to international standards when it comes to hygiene.

I have seen an urgent operation in the ICU.

In a hospital in the Netherlands.

They might not find themselves as welcome in other SEAsian holiday destinations, like Vietnam and Indonesia. I guess they've got Cambodia for now, but will the Filipinos be happy to receive them with their contentious claims over Filipino territory?

If I read what Filipino friends write the welcome will not be very happy.

You just know the country is like a circus when you get Government Ministers behaving like a clown. Who knows how long the virus situation will be with us, or how willing Chinese will be to travel afterwards? Such statements are just stupid nonsense.

While the Chinese government also wants to "promote" Chinese people to be tourists in China it might be rather uncertain if the Chinese will be back in droves.

he still has the problem of returning to the original branch in order to do bank stuff.........like get a tax statement for annual refund, get a new passbook when the old one is full or damaged, replace atm card, etc.

so what is the recommended way of moving the 800K?  i would assume you could open accounts in the same bank in the new province.  then can do an online transfer between accounts, and update all passbooks immediately.

    does that sound reasonable?

In KTB you can move your account to another branch and keep the same number.

Read somewhere this is new and planned with all banks.

"Naah, I notice a weird Thai apologist in this thread..."

I suspect you may be referring to me even though I didn't mention "ordinary groceries". I did refer to "ordinary cash purchases", though, so, yes, you are wrong, this bloke's shopping expedition confirms nothing about anyone thinking that "we are unwanted".

If Thai people buy something, use a card, they also have to show a passport or ID-card then?

The man wanted to pay cash, still had to show a passport.

When are you going to discard that rise-tinted spectacles?

My reaction would have been, just walk away, without groceries, never to go to that shop again.

AFAIK most Thais have very little financial education. Debt is way too easy to get into here. It suits the elite here to keep it that way.

It depends on whether the OP wants to help his GF. And whether it would stretch his own finances.

He would probably do better encouraging her to pay the debt off faster, by cutting down on her spending.

If she won't listen, dump her.

    The elite wants this?

Scary and bad debts are not very much in vogue.....

" Operators were looking to traditional European Markets to salvage what is left of high season "

Why, would any sane European Citizen spend good money on a flight to Thailand where they can experience a possible Corona Virus pandemic first hand, along with deadly roads and price gouging.

And all this after being given a very clear message from the Government that they are not welcome

Thailand made a bed, that they now have to lie in

You mean the former TS and YS governments that clearly declared double pricing, farang bashing, black money, etc were acceptable?

Agreed, this was never turned around.
