  1. Sorry, didn't explain that well maybe... We never do international calls, however texts incoming/outgoing, as long as there is "WIFI" network access have always worked without any delay or cost; 3 trips to Thailand so far. Verizon International Roaming "even if not used, just enabled" is insanely expensive. so we just text; if someone calls me the call still comes up, just don't answer, never charged; and I text back next chance I have WIFI access ( sorry I can't call you at the moment but we can discuss via text, etc ). Thinking that with ESIM enabled I can setup a hotspot between the two numbers. Last trip I took a very old cheap android and had local SIM installed and was able 2do this quite easily. Also with a lot of things, banking, etc will get a text as extra level of security, and need that to access these sites. this also worked perfectly just with WIFI access, no local number. If hotspot on same phone doesn't work, I can setup hotspot on wifes phone for my android and other way around for hers. If someone knows, please advise. thanks!! That would really suck, as unless we're with each other 24x7 isn't great, however don't require it to be 100%, texts will popup next time I can access WIFI or a hotspot. The only things I used the local number for was the hotspot, and apps like Grab and Bolt which seems to require a local number, and of course my Bangkok Bank account, hotel registrations.
  2. Back in Feb when I visited Hua Hin at the night market there was a family... Husband, wife, 2 kids and the family dog sitting on drivers lap and front paws stretched out to handlebars all on one motorcycle, not a helmet in sight, lights not on, 1 of the kids was actually a baby. Pulling that lot over should blow right through the 11 points allowed with some to spare. And about motorcycle taxis; very few passengers are wearing a helmet, but driver doesn't get the ticket, the passenger does. Both should be given a ticket; also who "potential passengers" carries a helmet around with them, just for the off chance they might take a motorcycle taxi. To me licensed motorcycle taxis should be required to: 1. carry an extra helmet "probably some sanitary issues there to deal with" 2. not be allowed to pickup a passenger, if there is not a "available" helmet or the licensed driver is ticketed. that in itself should go a long way to reduce the annual death rate/serious injuries totals.
  3. I recall reading in this forum before that for US Social Security or Pensions, it's required to have a letter from Embassy; which did not used to be an issue, but now, for whatever reason US embassy refuses to do. Would be great if that is not the case, as I am in the same situation. Additionally I have steady monthly/yearly income from rental properties and investments, however unsure how to get this recognized officially. I probably qualify 100 percent with just Social Security with the upcoming yearly increase.
  4. Seems like keeping the bars open until 8AM would be better, we'd be at 7:45 then the police maybe finished their cuppa joe or tea, and also the CCTV footage would be so so much clearer.
  5. We're actually in an La Niña event which is cyclical, and normal. There's a mysterious object recently found in space... it's named the Sun, and is the major overriding factor in Earths weather; To those that have not read the news, the Sun is going through a very active stage currently, as well as throwing off very heavy plasma bursts recently, and those from time/time hit our planet causing all kinds of things.
  6. Question is totally irrelevant is what I think many have been trying to say. If you that interested have someone on phone at other location at exactly the same time, and compare. can't see how it would make any difference unless you can instantly teleport there.
  7. SIM/ESIM Purchased a new Dual SIM phone this year; Android Galaxy 22 Ultra. Wife got a new Iphone also Dual SIM. On both phones we had our US carrier "Verizon" installed on the ESIM, so hopefully would make it easier to get standard SIM when traveling, as a lot of countries do not support ESIM, or it's difficult to find the right vendor, and person familiar with the setup, and not just totally muck it all up. When traveling, we both need access to our US phone numbers for business. Is anyone familiar with doing this in Thailand? With my current setup, hoping can just have them drop in their local Thai SIM, and then I'll have Thai/Sim + US Verizon ESIM on the one phone; same with Wifes Iphone. Took quite a bit of conversation to get the salespeople to understand why I wanted ESIM enabled for my US phone, and not the regular SIM.... You want to do what? explain that to me again, then calling their backline support, and going over it a dozen times or more, before it was all settled out.
  8. Doesn't really matter though, does it? The two people would have to be standing directly in front of each booth at exactly the same time with their cells and chatting with the other party, as it's changing every second. Then if it's a better rate at the 2nd booth, you'd then have to transport yourself to where-ever that is, and of course "that takes time" and rates at both places will have changed hundreds of times, if not thousands. how many seconds would it take you to get from Kanchanaburi to Suratthani. It's not 1965 anymore, when rates and such came out on ticker tapes... or is it, hmm. See no reason they'd be different as it would be rather a nightmare for them to track/modify all the different locations second by second differently.
  9. Actually not to late. When I filed for my extension early this year, I was able to get printout from hotel for the TM30 "actually hotel short term is something other than tm30, as thats for 30+ days" they were more than happy to print one off for me, as I was checking out of hotel. i.e. just checkin to a hotel for 1 night, ask for the form, and you're good; ok you'll waste a few bath,,, maybe take advantage of the pool or something. Most likely the type of situation you are in, is why Thailand had/has issues with airbnb as many of the property owers don't follow the law, and not paying their taxes.
  10. "establish the effects of a previously unknown virus. " no idea even what you are on about with that statement.
  11. nope not at all. Every specilist has stated that Omnicron has completely overtaken all other variants. If a person is vaccinated, Omnicron is no threat to them, other than at worst a mild cold, and/or scrathy throat. Many Thai's I know a few months ago, hoped to get Covid for the Insurance payment, sa they know it's not dangerous. Most people understand by now, Omnicron is not dangerous to Vaccinated people. Almost ALL serious illness and death are attributed to unvaccinated people. If some want to continue to not get vaccinated, they're not worried about the risks to themselves, why should we worry more than they do about themselves? If you want 100 percent protection for 100 percent of the world population, you do not live in the real world. That's never ever going to happen. Is why they're been using the word "Endemic". But hey, if you want to wear masks and do all the social distancing for the rest of your life, I completely support you, but the rest of us don't want to participate.
  12. When you completed T&G application you would have been given the "code" to check your status. Is always possible and really a good idea to manually check there to see approval, then you can print out QR Thaipass. When I applied back in Nov there wasn't an online list of hotels, but required to get confirmation letter from hotel before applying. So many people just uploaded their email confirmation instead of the confirmation letter. No idea if this is still the case. Yes, I agree T&G needs to be gone. Was always a lot of work.
  13. Delta will deny boarding for just that reason. I book a $70 ticket to Cambodia for day 25, and no problem. Waste of $70 but it is what it is. Not sold on the rent a ticket scheme myself.
  14. test requirements for airlines are almost always the requirements of your destination. Not aware of any special requirements of any airports when only connecting. If there is a requirement it is an airline requirement and that would be airline related not airport.
