What are the wonderful Thai police for? Old wreck of a car, blocking a neighbours drive, untaxed. Hey there is big money for the police there.

It does not need to start, all it needs to do is roll. Is there a nearby spot the car could be moved to so it is no longer obstructing you?
Roll it or have it towed to outside the Policemans brothers house🙂

Unless i die suddenly i intend to transfer as much as possible of assets/money to my wife around age 80. Then when i die there should only be a limited amount of cash in the bank which she can withdraw immediately. Even the 800k visa money i will switch to the 65k a month.
Fine, unless your wife should die before you. Make sure you tie up all loose ends before you make the transfer. Wives sons and daughters and sons in law can have a devastating effect on what you thought would happen!

If after death, a deceased's account is debited unusually (ie large daily withdrawals) when prior to death, there was a regular pattern of perhaps 2/3 withdrawals a month, it is quite normal for the banks computer to recognise the changes, and for the bank to lock the account and invite the account holder to attend the bank. I always advise widows (having initially told them it is illegal to withdraw money from a deceased's account) to just make small withdrawals every 5/6 days until the account is empty.

All that is needed is 'the letter' from the Family Court, that did the Probate, but of course if you contact lawyers then obviously you have to pay them.
What I'm trying to say is I don't think a lawyer is necessary, it will still go to probate the court would not hold back probates otherwise normal poor Thais would never get "The Letter"
The Family Court does indeed provide the Probate document, but I believe it will only be produced upon application from a Lawyer.

I have suggested to widows on occasions, that if they feel inclined to take the money from their late husband's/partners bank account, to just leave a 100bt balance, but not to inform the bank of the death. When it comes time to pay the annual debit card fee, there being insufficient money available, the account will be closed automatically.
Last time I heard of the Police becoming ionvolved with bank accounts was some 15 years ago in Pattaya. Never since

Normally the bank freezes the account when they have been advised of the death. No hurry for anyone to advise the bank -in fact probably not even necessary. Most widows (with the permission of their late husband before his death) will have access to his ATM cards and PIN numbers and will (illegally) drain most accounts. Fixed deposit accounts do not have ATM cards, nor can they be operated online!

I presume you mean in Thailand. The family court does the probate in your province, I don't know the 'Fee' but I doubt it is much as in all Amphur fees. If you are concerned I would ask there.
It is not the court fee that is the problem, but the Lawyer Fee. I have been involved in a couple of probates using a Lawyer from a neighbouring province who charged 30,000baht to obtain probate and extract the money (incluing his expenses) Another called in by the widow in the same province wanted 60,000baht to get probate for a bank account of just 110,000baht!!!!! Pays to shop around.

Corporal punishment was only made illegal in UK schools 1986, and that only because of a 1982 ruling by the ECHR. Poland outlawed corporal punishment in schools in 1783. Make of that what you will, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to get up on that high horse...
I would not consider piercing the lips of 36 very young children to be corporal punishment . This was sadistic cruelty.

If some 70 parents fail to do something about this extreme cruelty, then it just shows what a sick society Thailand really is, and how inadequate so many Thais really are!

The parents of the 36 children should group together and pay the 2 sacked teachers a "visit" in their homes!

If I were one of the parents I would personally press charges if the Police failed to do so. Wouldn't be first time!

My gripe with the local Lotus's after Tesco moved away is the poor service. regularly only 1 or 2 check outs open , with queues of up to 10 people. I have complained to both customer service and by email, but it does not get better. More staff clearly needed!"

- Am currently assisting a widow, whose husband died recently from cancer. Prior to death he received expensive treatment which he paid for by raiding his visa extension fund and he appeared better. However a few weeks later he was again hospitalised and after a few days he died. There was no money left to pay the hospital. The hospital have demanded payment by the widow, but since her husband died penniless, with no estate, I have told her that his debt is not her liablity. She does not want to argue with the hospital, and will try and repay over the coming months from her small pension. Her choice, but I think she is wrong.

Yup... seen that happen...
This has been debated quite a lot on this forum... Its not any slower at all... Give it a try, once you are familiar with such payment methods you'll see how convenient it is.
Some will use the excuse, that it takes longer, but that just an exaggeration from those who don't like digital payments, perhaps because they don't like change or are uncomfortable with change.
... the reality is for most people, the phone is in hand and the App us running ready for the cashier to scan - its not slower than cash or credit card payment....
Where it may be slower for people who are just disorganised and not ready to make the payment at the right time... but, this kind of person is also the kind who doesn't have their wallet ready at the right time either and spends time digging for cash.
So no... Its not a 'mad' system.. its incredibly convenient...
May well be quicker, if those paying using QR code know how to do it. In my experience many do not and have to enlist the cashiers help...........once having found their phone and turned it on!!!!!!!!!!

Thats just like getting stuck behind one person at an ATM thinking it'll be quick only wait as they carry out multiple transactions in a row.....
Even worse, had it happen twice in Makro , customer in front - almost finished checking out, bill 3,000THB+, fishes out bags full of 5 and 10bahts!!!!!!!!!!!
-
In a somewhat similar vein, recently in Lotus's, I queued behind a woman with a trolley full of sugar. Must have been 100bags+ I thought "this will be quick" But not. She wanted 10 bags to be checked out separately and repeatedly, and paid on her phone by QR code, which she did not understand and needed cashier help. I gave up, but not before voicing my disgust very loudly -in Thai - for all around to hear!

I only have 2 personal Thai bank-accounts, both with Kasikorn Bank.
The regular Savings Account with a debit-card for daily transactions, and the Fixed Deposit Account where I keep my +800.000,- Thb to meet the financial requirement for the annual 1-year extension of stay based on my Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement.
>> But I want to open a Thai bank-account with another major Thai Bank, in case of any problems with the Kasikorn accounts.
Unfortunately the closest BangkokBank, Siam Commercial Bank and KrungSri Bank branches are +40 km from where I live, otherwise I would have already opened an account there.
Any suggestions or caveats to opening an account with other Thai banks, there is a KrungThai branche and a GSB (Governments Savings Bank) relatively close to where I live.
A fixed deposit account may pay a little bit more interest, but with no debit card and no online withdrawals. you could run into trouble if you were ill or hospitalised and unable to visit a bank and withdraw money!

Happens regularly to me in Makro, when buying meat and loading it on the conveyor to be weighed and priced. The conveyor belt is often full, and Thais walk up, and place their meat on the belt on top of others meat at the front. I generally pick it up and move it to the back with a few softly spoken choice words. Invariably they say nothing, but glare at me!

23 people in a pick-up is NOT 'allowed' but there is very little enforcement of traffic laws here - hence the very high casualty rates.
Is there a law restricting the number that can be carried? Can yu quote it please. As far as I am aware it is all just hot air!
-
Saw a similar number of kids in the bed of a pick up a week or so on Childrens day. Not sitting, but standing...............and they overtook me at 90+ in the outside lane of a dual carriageway!!!
