  1. Go back to your country to build up a retirement fund but you are over 50. What makes you think you can find employment at that age. And what is your nationality? How old is she? How is her health? That makes a difference in the suggestions you would get. I bet you are significantly older than she is so the likelihood she predeceases you is slim. If the only reason to marry is for YOU to have an inheritance, it doesn't sound the right reason. If you die first, what would she have to live on? Do you care? Too much info is missing.
  2. I would suggest making sure you talked to a knowledgeable banker at your US bank. I would think Thai baht transferred to the US under normal international transfer protocols would be exchanged into dollars at the international exchange rate. If you called a customer service number and just talked to who ever answered, I doubt you got the answer a banker who deals with international transfers on a daily basis would give you.
  3. Go to a bank and ask about a prepaid visa card. Open an account with 100,000 baht and get a card with 100,000 baht limit. Each time you use it, the level drops. Keep track of it on line. And transfer money when it gets to whatever level at which you start feeling uncomfortable. Want to buy airplane tickets for 300,000 baht, just pre-top up with 300,000 baht. Then use the card, buy the tickets, and you back to your 100,000 limit again.
  4. Are you saying Modest Drinker has an income of only 60,000 baht a month? My immediate reaction is that 60,000 baht a month will not let him live comfortable unless he is comfortable in a studio apartment, eats and drinks at home, and has no underlying medical condition. Toss in transportation, utilities, cell phone/internet........ Comfortable life Thai style but not western Of course with that small of an income, he will have to have the 800K in the bank for his visa.
  5. Can't answer or offer an opinion (or even guess) since the phrase is out of context.
  6. You post is titled: "3 location date backed by science" which is confusing. Something specific happened at a specific spot on these 3 specific dates and science proved it? I had to open the post to see what happened when. I was disappointed to see a video by some completely unknown man on what appears to be an unrelated subject. I did not open your post while feeing any need to change my way of thinking or rewire my brain, so I ignored the video, specially after reading the replies.. I expect there are many people like me who didn't watch the video but might have if you had led off with a good introduction that suggested why and how we would benefit from watching.
  7. Well, they provide such service to me when a registered package goes missing but shows delivered on the log. Maybe it is our personalities and our approach to post office workers that makes the difference?"
  8. Terriyaki Try going to the post office with someone that speaks Thai and ask the mailman that supposedly delivered your package to go with you in a car and show the two of you exactly where he delivered it.
  9. I am perplexed on why you don't just renew both passports.
  10. So many replies, I just skipped them all so you may have already gotten this advice: Google tax treaty your country/Thailand. That will identify your tax requirements and you will know what is the law instead of what Thai Visa thinks.
  11. Don't take her post out of context; she posted about a very specific situation. What wild animal would enjoy being chained and forced to sit on strangers' laps day in and day out?
  12. Breaker box has no expansion slots? You might add what is the rating of each breaker to make it easier for a knowledgeable person to offer advice. I am not that person, but I had to double the amps to handle new loads for a couple of breakers in my house a long time ago.
  13. And the Embassy will facilitate contacting people in the states. If she really got the $10K transferred to her, the Embassy could work with her to get access. The story is very suspect (I did not read all the postsP). The local police, if involved, would contact the tourist police who would know how to interface with the Embassy to get her whatever assistance she needs to leave the country.
  14. I do not know about the other hospitals, but Bangkok Hospital Chiangmai has a web site with all the doctors searchable my name and specialty/clinic. Sure, you can let price/cost drive our decision, but I suggest you also think about the doctors' backgrounds. You get a doctor that got his MD back in the 1990s and shows no further education after that, it should make you wonder. If the doctor got his degrees back whenever and only worked in Khon Kaen until recently moving to Chiangmai, you might wonder some more. A expat didn't like the treatment he was getting at Khon Kaen Ram, plus the doctor refused to do some of the tests he wanted. He came to Chiangmai Ram and he said it was like night and day. And older woman friend fell down and hit her head in Chaiyaphum and went to Ram hospital. Sent her home with pills, pain got worse, went back and found our Chaiyaphum Ram does not have an MRI machine. So, DD86, you are wondering if they might be newer and better meds for you. You will need to find the doctor who has kept up on his education AND works in a facilities that keeps up with the times.
  15. My wife really likes the female gynecologist at Bangkok Hosp Chiangmai Dr. Atita Ruengsaen
  16. Yes, send both. As jerryonjay said, the bank draft pays for sending your self addressed envelope back registered mail.
  17. You said "ON LINE". Can you go on line and wire the money? Get your bank's SWIFT code?
  18. It has been a while but if this is the one I like to use, they have a booth in luggage claim. As soon as I deplane, I would go to them for a car/SUV and then go get my bags and they finished the arrangements. I like it, convenient. Seeing their advanced booking page, I will look for that next time.
