  1. A few months ago i paid 80k for a Suzuki Slingshot 750cc (after greenbook transfer and a new paint job it came to about 90k). I'm more than happy with it.

What year is it? It looks to be in good shape for out the door 90K

it is a 92 but it has K1 fairings with a K3 paint scheme. It runs great, however i did have to get an O-ring changed, but that was no big deal. I just rode to Kao Yai and back this week on it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that for longer trips the vibration really does a number on my hands. I also wish I had a bit more torque in the high end for when I'm going 180+, but I guess a 750 is more of a mid range bike anyway.

80-90k baht with registration is about the going rate for these bikes.

  2. It was cheap.. I cant remember but it put the cost of the bike up by only 20 or 30k IIRC.. And spread it over years so made payments in the mid 4 digits range a month.. Less than my elecy bill !!

Also he made it 100% clear no need for a Thai nominee, no work permit needed.. Only long stay visa.

I might have posted it but if not I can ask next time I pass over there.

I was hearing that you can do similar finance on something like a ZX10. I'm sure it would be a bit more, but probably not by much.

I'll have to go down to the Kawasaki dealership and work out all the numbers.

In the mean time though I am enjoying my Suzuki, but it would be nice to have a brand spanking new bike.

  3. Imagine away.. None seem to have them pictured..

Sounds much more like you got a deal.. 750's with books at those prices are hard to find.. 120 - 150 more nromal IMO.

If I had 80k to spend and no bike I had my eye on.. I would put a 75 downpayment and take the credit on an ER6.. The drip a month is small enough to not notice and its a brand new shiny 600 in the driveway.. The drop of the credit would balance out against headache and hassle of finding bits and repairing any 80k bike somchai has been working on.

what does the monthly payment work out to be? i've thought about getting an ER6 myself.

  4. ."

I was hanging around the pub and a guy came up and asked me if I would like to travel the

world and get good money..legally....yeah SO LUCKY"

This is perfect advise. Advise that I try to follow whenever I can. Go hang around the pub and it will all work out. :o

  6. The only thing that bothers me about the word farang is that it's origins have to do with the French. I'm not French, and no matter how hard I try I never will be French. Other than that I have no problem with the word. In fact I use it now too. If you are offended by being called a foreigner then you have some issues, however it is perfectly normal to be offended by someone calling you French. "Farang" is just one of those words that has developed a broader definition over time. Today its meaning is if you are a white westerner then YOU ARE FARANG (so deal with it, or stop using language).

  8. but seriously how can a bike save a marriage?

you wouldn't understand. all i know is that my marriage is working again. different things for different people. if all you see everyday is your partner then of course she will get boring and she will be bored of you. get yourself a hobby and spend less of your time with her and you will find yourself wanting each other more.

  9. We want to be close enough that in peak traffic, we could get a taxi to take us to the hospital in under 30 minutes. I'm not familiar enough with the area to know how close that needs to be in terms of actual distance.

Where are you staying right now? Why do you hate it?

    Thanks for your help!

I'm on Phattanakarn at the moment. And I just realized that you are talking about the Samitvej Sukhumvit and not the Samitvej Sinakarin which is the one I am near. I guess it doesn't help you much because we are talking about different areas of town.

  10. We are coming to Bangkok from a neighboring country. I'm planning on delivering our second baby at Samitivej Sukhumvit. We're an American family with a two year old. Looking for a good but inexpensive place to stay close to the hospital. Open to looking at hotels and guest houses, but would of course prefer a furnished (not necessarily serviced) apartment so we can cook and spread out a bit.

Any recommendations of places to look or places to avoid would be very much appreciated.

Also, I've seen that some short term apts don't include electricity in their quotes. Any ideas how much we should expect to pay at 6.5 bhts/unit in the months of Mar/Apr? That will help us compare prices.

    Thanks.

How close would you like to be? about 2 or 3 kilometers away you can get a studio apartment for 3000-6000 baht depending on what you want. Where I am staying now is close to there, but I am moving next week because I hate the place.

  11. I had the same problem. I had to wear glasses for the longest time because I couldn't find anywhere that had my prescription. I ended up getting contacts ordered from "1-800-CONTACTS" in the US. They require a prescription from a doctor only from people inside the US. As long as you give the name of a hospital and doctor then they will ship to Thailand without a prescription from a doctor. It didn't take long to get them either, however you will have to pay VAT on them, except it isn't very expensive from what I recall.

  12. like simply refusing, they cannot make you ( despite what any police says , they cannot make anyone take a piss test

you gotta go when you gotta go. If you can't piss then they can't make you however they can hold you down and take your blood. They do this to people in the US who refuse a breathalyzer for DUI stops.

  13. money is just money. if i had enough of it i would probably share it, however at the moment we are poor. my child takes priority now so i have become a bit more tight with cash. the in laws understand entirely, but i do like to buy a bottle of whiskey for the father in law or upgrade a telephone for the mother in law when i can.
