  2. Riding a honda wave in bkk since 7years now ...35000km, I think nothing of traveling all over bkk with the motocyc...I used GE for a mental image of my route until i knew my way around better than the taxis,

I decided years ago if i could,nt accept the risks then i could,nt live in bkk, last time i used any form of public transport or even a taxi is well over 5 years,

I do have a car but would never get the idea to drive around bkk..mostly 2 days per week i travel distance and thats when the car gets used,

When i first came there were 2 occasions when i started riding here that the bib extorted money from me, It pissed me off for days after each time until i found a way around it.

What did you do to find a way around the Tea Money? Not that I have run into it yet, buth subject is brought up alot. lt would be good to get a Veterans perspective

I got stopped by the same cop virtually every day with many trumped up charges, so i said to him 'if you give me your bank account number i will set up a direct debit to make life easier'. I think he got the message because he never stopped me again.

  3. They warned about these updates during the last month. They have added more channels and changed the channel order.

Yep, I even got a test message (in English) via phone that they will update/move the channels.

Why they move them, I don't know but it's a pain in the ass as others also mention now just got used to where they are and now you have to start from scratch again

I think that you can reorder them through the box but not sure how to just yet. Agree it is a pain.

  4. I wonder what the toilets are like. Do you pee into a bottle? LOL.

    -

Detailed pictures in the most recent link.

Which also claims "made out of" rather than just "decorated with" BTW.

I checked it out a bit on some other sites, and I think it is made out of bottles, rather than just decorated. In many of the images it looks like bottles and cement (or something similar.

I agree Dave it looks like it is made out of bottles on closer inspection.

  5. Ridiculous thread.

The Thais think the same about Russians as every other white expat or tourist here in the Kingdom.

They are lumped into the Farang basket along with you, me, and any other anglo person here on a user pay basis.

In fact, that is my biggest gripe about Thailand.

You can be a genius self made millionaire philanthropist, or a Siberian junkie touting photo shoots with stolen monkeys...

You will get exactly the same level of recognition from mainstream Thais...NONE...with the exception of taking your payments

A few Thais are more afraid about Russians as they are Communists..... But it might get slowly common knowledge that something happened over there are that they aren't Commies anymore.

I think you are mistaking the USA with Thailand. The fixation in the past about "The Commies" was in the main an American trait, it didn't really affect other countries to the same degree.

You forget the heavy propaganda and Vietnam war in which Thailand also attacked Vietnam. As well there was a lot fighting between army an Thai Commies.

That Russian = Communist might not be as much as in USA but it is a little bit existing.

Add: And of course no one knows has an idea what communism is.....

Communism today is where 2% of the population own 98% of the wealth. The rest have Jack shit. I think that this applies to all so called communist Countries today.

  6. I think Russian is much harder to learn than English and Thailand already has a long history with English. I think this language issue is the key to the Russian entry into taking over incoming tourism market share of Russian speakers and given that Thais in general aren't very keen on foreign language fluency, this isn't likely to change. So if some Thais in tourism are feeling economic resentment about this, that would be natural.

    Nail on the head!

  7. thats really weird story.

I would suggest to her that it might be someone she knows, only because those who steal dogs and cats, usually do it to sell them.

If it was not a puppy or a rare breed(which this one is not) there is no reason for it.

rare breed no, apparently it is a pure bred hand bag dog, and god knows those aren't popular here, are they?

that said, they fact that they are in contact would suggest it is someone they know more than anything you have pointed out

Nope, not anybody they knew. It was apparently some teenagers getting their kicks. They saw a flyer asking for the pet back then saw the posts on facebook. They got nervous the police would be called so decided to give the dog back.

They got their dog back last night.

And yes, this happens quite often here from what I now understand.

Great news thanks for the update.
