  1. the original purpose of the collar on the polo shirt is to flip up to protect against the sun. did you think it was for wearing a tie?
  2. Why would I want to live here without health insurance? The Non OA health insurance requirement is effectively catastrophic coverage.
  3. ThanksX2 For the second year, do I need to buy a reentry permit every time I needed to leave and come back? Assuming I'd need to keep traveling into the 2nd year... I'd probably just reapply for the Non OA multi entry extension in Thailand before my Non OA expires. Am I getting that right? Do you know the cost for the reentry permit vs reapplying for the extension?
  4. Thank you. I have a Non OA, multi-entry visa. So you mean that after the first year the visa conditions change? I thought I just reapply showing proof of funds and insurance and I'm extended for another year, and so on.
  5. Is there a limit to the number of days you can stay outside Thailand on a Non OA? I don't want to jeopardize my ability to extend. TIA
  6. Funny thing is, he was conceived in Australia. Technically we are common-law married there -- aka 'de facto'. In retrospect we should have tried harder to stay. We thought covid was over and that I'd be able to join her in China once all this stuff resolved. That was a year ago.
  7. I wrongly assumed that amending the birth certificate wouldn't be a problem. Apparently in China, birth certificates cannot be updated or changed. It makes no sense to me since he must have a father and if it's possible to include that info, you'd think it would be something worthy of an update. I do want to use the paternity test to get him a US passport as well once I can get into China to attend the required in-person meeting with the US consulate to document his birth. I'm in limbo. Also it would be nice to have the option of bringing them to Thailand so it looks like we'll have to get married. Not a problem but I need to figure out how to arrange that as well either in Thailand or China. Also, it seems like the US will accept an affidavit that states that the father will provide financial support. It seems like that's all that's needed although they have the option of requiring a paternity test.
  8. My son was born in China. Long story but during the covid years I was unable to attend the birth due because we aren't married and I'm not Chinese. Problem is, I'm not on his birth cert. So I'm looking to bring them to Bangkok now that they are able to come here and get a paternity test to use as proof of relationship for travel (visas, etc). Bumrungrad quoted 90,000 baht for a test that takes 2 months. It sure sounds like this is not a paternity test but a full DNA profile. Are there more/better options? Any leads? TIA
  9. Recommend you use Thailand’s official online site for correct info: https://thaievisa.go.th For Non O-A requirements: https://thaievisa.go.th/long-stay-visa
  10. Regarding the 800K THB funds: My understanding is for the first year you don't have to keep the money in a Thai bank; you just show proof of funds with a statement or letter. The funds can be kept overseas. When you apply for a one year extension after the first year, then you must show the funds in a Thai bank which you can draw down during the year to live on if you wish and replenish it before your annual extension. Seems like a logical policy designed to reduce the risk of having destitute foreigners living in the country.
  11. That’s a huge loophole. Are you sure insurance isn’t required? It’s the “as far as I know” part that’s bugging me. If it doesn’t work, then I will have to go back home, rent an apartment, etc. Considerable costs..
  12. Perhaps they are in the process of changing the requirement, however, the application uploads are still required on the online form. Note numbers 8 and 12 in the image. It does say that the required docs depend on the consulate you are apply though. ???? In my case, I require health insurance.
  13. Applying for OA visa. Does anyone know what the process is for adding a new spouse to the OA visa? My bride to be is a 40 yr old non-Thai — who would not qualify for a retirement visa on her own. TIA
