I was in the gym today doing some bicep curls. A younger thai guy walked right up near me and started fiddling with some weights near the floor. Only me and that one guy in there. It's not normal to approach another man when he is lifting. It requires space and a safe area. That understanding pretty much spans cultures. He was probably a homosexual. I had to actually move away while in mid set as it was uncomfortable looking at him in the mirror that close. He also did some loud grunting later on while working another machine that sounded kind of sexual. There are a lot of gays in the gym. I stopped going in there when Thai's are in there and even leaving if they come in. There's something weird about working out with them. It's hard to believe that many Thai guys are gay though. Maybe it has something to do with being in Central Pattaya, but I get that vibe quite often in the gym here.

One thing I liked about Cambodia is I could just have a beer. When I'm in Thailand I still can't remember the exact hours, was it between 12-3pm? or 5pm? Even now I can't remember the exact times. Fortunately, I can just get a quart of milk instead when I go in.

I used to think it was a gay thing, but... I now think it's that most people need to be around other people. You get dudes who use the gym when they see you going in, guys who sit too near you on the pool loungers, guys who make too much eye contact at the pool when you both have your shirts off...you get the idea... It's getting harder to avoid these people. I started going into the gym at particular times to avoid them, I also go to the pool later in the evening when nobody is around... Your observations here are spot on.

The larger reusable soda water bottles actually do have a deposit attached. You bring back the bottles, the shop collects them and you get the deposit back or the deposit amount deducted off the next purchase. If it's the smaller bottles, like at 7-11, there is no deposit. The Op was scammed. Never f@ck with someones water.

It's clear they are intentionally targeting civilians, not military targets. There would not be that amount of civilian deaths as collateral damage.

Agreed, except in thailand he had to deal with a thai guy possibly making up the price. I like just having the price listed so I don't need to worry about it. I guess it works if he liked the negotiation for a novel experience which it appears he does. I don't, I just want to get out with the soda water at a price I know for sure everybody else is paying.

It's included in the advertised price in the US. The shop owner in thailand added on whatever he wanted and pocketed the money.

They do it when you are not home and don't notify you. Leave your stuff outside.

Won't happen, rent is always paid. The point is I never paid a large deposit, so if it was not returned it's not a huge setback. The deposit thing sounds like a scam to me. That's not a deposit, but a simple overcharging. You laughed at yourself about getting ripped off.

No way would I wear a suit here. Even just wearing my leather hightops gets strange looks like I'm trying to be hi-so.

Rent directly with building management. They often only require a small deposit. A lot of condo buildings will have units available through the juristic office. The place I'm in now only required a small deposit and it's furnished better then the other place I had that wanted 2 months deposit. Deposits are basically a windfall for the landlord, not reflecting what's in the unit.

You may be correct. If I appear Ok, people may have less of a need to wonder about me and fix attention to determine why I seem avoidant. It's more like I'm unmemorable and don't really stick in the memory. Maybe I am trying too hard. It's still a distraction, but sometimes one must choose the lesser distraction.

I never walk with my back to oncoming traffic anywhere in any country. One swerve and you're road kill. If you are facing traffic you can move. Anyhow, I have noticed that in Thailand almost always when I'm walking against oncoming traffic people coming the other way will step to the inside (towards oncoming vehicles behind them). I used to deliberately step to the inside so they could have the curb (they can't see behind them), but I eventually got so fed up with their stupidity that I just ignored it and let them step into traffic since they wanted to.

Ok, sounds like you've gone native. I don't want to change who I am and interpret the world in a new way. I like who I am. I'd rather move. I did not have this issue back on home turf. Also, I did not have the issue in Vietnam, Mexico, Singapore and Malaysia. It seems particular to Thailand and Cambodia.

Many of the complainers and nasty people on here probably don't want to be in Thailand. People get washed up here and end up complaining because they don't have the option of moving someplace better.

It's about the same. The important part is that I no longer want to be in Thailand and don't like Thai's. They are not "evil people" I just don't like the energy they give off. I explained what this energy is the best I could, but if you can't follow, then Thailand is just no longer for me. I have also posted before that I am now here out of financial necessity and am working on ways to return home.

The problem is much worse at girlie bars. It's the same thing but much more obvious. Take a typical girlie bar and bring it down to a much more subtle level and you get what I'm talking about. Strange that I have to explain every little thing to you. I can tell from a lot of the responses here that people are not "getting it". You are probably too distracted and dull to analyze what other people are feeling and thinking. I have given up. Go away and shut up unless you can offer some techniques in avoiding you and your babbling.

It's more of an irritation at this point. Just looking for better ways to avoid people. I'm not interested in "curing" myself of the condition or becoming more social.

It's that "Art Of The Deal" type stuff in that book. He basically uses language and crafts perception so people think he has an angle which he does not actually have. Then later on, whomever comprimised in some way is not fully re-paid or left hanging so he comes out ahead or profits. He did it with poor white voters. A simplistic example, you can see it in him working at the McDonald's stuff, so poor white's see themselves in him and feel like they could be wealthy. Then he takes the votes and disappears. He got something for nothing. He never enjoyed flipping burgers. That may also be why he liked the Casino business. Casino's sell the illusion of players having a chance (selling something that's not really available) then come out ahead when players lose. It's justified because players got that feeling of maybe winning, but it was not something the casino could afford to do or could back up financially for everybody.

Sounds like what happened to his Casino's going bankrupt. Nothing is paid down, he just uses his image to negotiate for more loans or what he wants and delays payment.

If you did a research study all those people would likely be extremely extroverted (people who feed off the energy of others) or needy in some way. It's similar to vampires getting angry. They can sense one of their potential victims pulling away. These are the guys that get weird when they are ignored and probably walk around nagging people at the condo pool area who don't want to be bothered (or nagging patrons at the bar to get attention, ie bar nags). Anything to get others attention and energy. Without that attention and distraction they would have to actually listen to themselves and find alternative energy sources and find their own true will inside themselves. They are looking for something in others but are never satisfied because the solution is not there. Staring is just the tip of the iceberg. Getting small amounts of attention and responses throughout the day to top up depleted reserves. It makes no difference if the attention is positive or negative as long as some response or eye contact is directed their way. That's one of the theories behind the evil eye stuff. Jewelry or charms made to reflect back this continual bombardment of weird energy other people are directing at you. Mirrors are also used, often placed above doorways, etc to get rid of this stuff entering the home and confusing and distracting you, or worse, irritating you.
