  1. I forgot to add that the new firmware now contains a USB connection option to connect as, 'Built-in CD-ROM', this drive contains the drivers for the phone. I installed them but ADB still didn't work then I installed the drivers from here and it still didn't work. I'm going to try it on another computer. I would really love to get this phone rooted.

Could somebody try to run ADB please?

  2. A few weeks ago whilst I was still in the UK I bought a cheap, £1.50 SIM card cutter from EBay. I decided that as I have quite a few SIMs that it would be good to make them all micro sized and then use adaptors for putting them in full size slots. The trouble came because the cutter doesn't quite cut them exactly to size and it also leaves a bit of plastic from the SIM which is above the normal depth of the SIM. As the micro SIM is quite small it's is difficult to file or shave the extra bits off with a craft knife. Anyway I put one of the SIMS in the main full size SIM slot using an adaptor but when I tried to get it out because the SIM and adaptor weren't flush I managed to break off one of the SIM contact pins and rendered that SIM slot useless. The micro SIM slot has the clasp that opens to put the SIM in which I think is a much better design than the full size slot which on my phone is quite tight this means I will have to be very careful as I move countries and need to change the SIM in this slot. Still at this point I was happy that the micro SIM slot worked and that it also supported 3G data.

Now as I mentioned previously in this thread I hadn't been able to get the USB to work with a PC even though I could use it to charge.

Since getting back to Chiang Mai last week I took the phone to the i-mobile service centre in Airport Plaza and they said two days to fix it, I got a text from them in one and picked up my phone. They showed me the SIM slot working and assured me the USB was fine too. I got it home and it worked as it should. All in all a good experience and another tick in the i-mobile column.

I'd also experienced the problem of not having enough memory for all my apps but after a reset trying to fix my USB problem I found I had more space for apps than before, it could be because of one of the firmware updates I'd previously received or the way Android versions below 4.3 don't free up all the memory when removing apps. This time after getting the phone back from i-Mobile my firmware had been updated to 1.34 and I'm almost certain I have more memory than before. It seems they might have changed the partitions in this latest update so I'm attaching a photo from Titanium Backup. If someone on an earlier version could post theirs we can see if this is true.

  3. Are you talking about modem sync speeds or actual in use browser speed tests? I just got back to CM after being in the UK for a few months and my sync speed is down to 6Mbps, I also experienced a few hours at least of connection drops a couple of days ago. The support person I spoke to today said there was a problem when a powerline went down the other day but that it is fixed now. They are sending an engineer to check my line tomorrow. I have a TPLink modem which shows maximum attainable rate aw well as current sync rate. Mine used to be in the 20+ now it is less than 10. As I've been away for sometime I don't know if something happened to the cable termination outside the condo. Hopefully that's the problem and the engineer can fix it.

Is it true that it doesn't have an mSD card slot? How much memory is there for apps? I would think more given it's a 16GB phone.

  5. I'm not sure if this is a definitive test but on the xbmc thread someone posted a link to a video clip that when you watch it on the non-stock player looks different than when watching on the stock player, the implication being that the non-stock players are upscaling.

I also wrote to Geniatech who say that the box plays video at 1080p natively. I don't know enough about how Android video processing yet to know how this works.

  6. I have a Geniatech ATV1200 and use XBMC as my media player and if something doesn't play I use BSPlayer using the stock video decoder. I'm still in the UK coming to the end of my summer holday and will be back in Thailand next week when I'll test it with my Onkyo home cinema.

    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=150342&highlight=atv1200

In the first post it is stated, "You should also know that the GUI is always rendered at 720p and then upscaled to 1080p, but video is output at 1080p.". I also use XBMC remote on my tablet and that way I can listen to my music with out having to turn the TV on to choose what I want to listen to. This is really great as my Logitech Squeezebox died last year and I'd been looking at options to replace it with. So now I get to replace both my AC Ryan PlayOnHD and Squeezebox with one device.

I still have a HP DM1 AMD E2-1800 netbook which I can connect to the Onkyo for the times when I need a proper PC to play something or get some catchup service that isn't supported by Android.

  7. FYI: I had the same problem mentioned above after firmware upgrade to 1.27, menu buttons (settings, home and back) failed to illuminate. fixed by Settings > Display> Button light

I set it to off, them set it back to Auto, and they are back

Thanks for that, I never thought to look there. :D

  8. As I posted in this thread previously my phone appeared to die and after waiting for the battery to drain it booted again sucessfully. At that time though it stopped being recognized by my laptop when plugged into the USB. I have since tried many combinations of cable and computer but still no luck. I'm wondering if somewhere there is a charge only setting for the USB. I can't see it anywhere and can't remember if I ever saw it on this phone. As I'm still in the UK I can't take it to a service centre and get it checked out.

    Anyone seen this problem?

Sorry mate never seen it before.

Two quick thoughts. |Maybe put a post over on XDA as those guys know pretty much everything. The other if you dont have a Thai contact I am sure Mrs Para can take your phone to MBK and post it back if you need.

I did check on XDA and other forums but mostly the problems were solved by changing the USB cable which I've already tried.

This morning I got the update to build 1.27 so now in sync with the IQXA but I've noticed since then, though it might be coincidence, that that my menu/home/back 'keys' no longer illuminate.

Anyway I'm buying my ticket to Thailand today so it will be just over 5 weeks until I'm back and I can visit the service centre and get everything sorted. Thanks for the offer though.

  10. I think one reason for wanting a phone with a removable battery is that if you were to get any item of electronics wet the first thing you are told to do is remove the battery.

I also think if you were to buy a phone from overseas and after some time your battery stopped holding charge and you wanted a replacement then things would be more complicated that just getting a new battery sent to you. I accept that for the vast majority of users this is not an issue but I just like to have a bit more control of my devices.

  11. I'd really just about given up on my phone but I still kept trying the the power button randomly throughout the day and finally maybe 10 hrs later when I pressed the power button the screen flashed on and off. I knew then the phone wasn't dead just totally discharged and so plugged it in and after about five minutes I pressed the power and it booted. smile.png

The non-removable battery was just about the only negative when I was deciding whether to buy the phone or not and I only decided it wasn't a deal breaker because at least in Thailand taking it to a shop is easy and cheap, ironically the time I almost needed to do that I'm in the UK.

  12. I just received my Jellybean 4.3 update for my Nexus 7 today and so I'm hoping that i-mobile will make this update available for their flagship models before too long.

Thats interesting was it an OTA upgrade?

Yes it was OTA. I also installed the ADB drivers for the Nexus 7 and it also doesn't show in ADB so I'm starting to think it's my Windows installation and not the IQX

My phone just crashed or switched itself off and now I can't get it back on again. I've tried every combo of power and volume keys for up to 10 secs but still nothing. It has done this once or twice before and I just left it off in the morning it was fine. Presently I'm in the UK so no way to take it to a shop should it decide not to wake from its deep sleep.
