  1. lothda, how to polish the surface of a disc and how successful is it in recovering a damaged disk ?

Better late than never: PowerMall has a disc polishing set from Philips for sale. Obviously it can only remove slight scratches and surface clouding. For that it works fine for me.

  2. You can do the 90 day report at the BOI one stop visa centre http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Stop-Service...Ce-t315823.html which is probably more conveniently located for most people.

If you really have to go to Bangkok immigration take bus no. 52 from Mo Chit - cost 8 Baht. Get off at the stop just after the CAT Telecom building, walk back, cross the road and take the free shuttle bus (first stop from there), clearly marked in English. Traffic will be the same, cost considerably less :)

  3. I concur with phetaroi. I own more than 2,500 CDs and almost as many DVDs, all originals, bought all over the world. I don't remember ever having had a CD that didn't play at all fresh out of the box. Very few, less than 10 for sure, had some skipping problem. On the DVD side I only remember three that didn't play at all. Two of those played fine after surface polishing even though one had no visible scratches or detoriation. One was replaced by the dealer and the replacement copy played fine. For recordable media I use TDK for CD-R and TDK or Verbatim for DVD+/-R. The only problem I ever had was with Verbatim media that had been left unrecorded a few years after purchase. Nero works absolutely fine for me. No problems like you describe at all.

  4. It seems True have upgraded their lines in conjunction with the new overseas cable from Asia now functioning. Just changed the subscription to 8 Mbps (which didn't work before on this phone line) but line speed is set to 14 Mbps and speedtest results are 12 or more, even to overseas. True states that you can test the higher speed for some time (end of the month I think) before they switch to your actual subscribed speed. Sorry, no link for this, I was told by my Thai friend. Smart marketing move, I'd say.

  5. I order from Amazon regularly and never had any problems. Sometimes import duty was collected. At this time Amazon seems to have a contract with a Thai domestic shipping company that takes care of the customs issue. Thai customers report on Thai web boards that they placed orders for 100s of dollars without having to pay. I just received a $100 order without problem, exactly 7 days from order to arrival in Bangkok. It seems the contract with the Thai shipping company is under review now. As Thai customers have complained to Amazon about the customs issue and this seems to be solved, it is likely that the present customer-friendly situation will continue.

Amazon only ships certain items to Thailand. Details here.

  6. My iPod touch developed a severe problem with the earphone outlet. One channel can only be heard intermittently. It seems like a small problem and is definitely related to the iPod not the earphones. Apple says they cannot repair it. The warranty ran out a few weeks ago. :) Does anybody have a recommendation for a shop that does such repairs - at MBK perhaps?

    Thank you for your help.

  7. ...

Airport link overhead station platform will have an exit directly onto the Phya Thai BTS platforms. (Get off the airport link, walk about three minutes and your on BTS platform.)

    ...

The "three minutes walk" applies to Phaya Thai station of the airport link. This is NOT the express train from the airport which stops at City Air Terminal Makkasan. If you are in the express train from the airport and want to go to Phaya Thai you have to change to the slow train and travel two stations more. See this map. Of course you can take the slow train form the airport in the first place. It took me a while to work that out. :)

  8. I'll try to help. I assume these are German cards issued in Germany and not by Deutsche Bank Thailand. The DB Maestro card should work without problems on Thai ATMs. So should the credit card if you have a PIN code for it. I never used mine as the fees are extremely high. If you live in Thailand just open a bank account here. A SWIFT transfer from Germany takes one day. The transfer fee is relatively high but will still work out cheaper than withdrawing small amounts with your German cards. You'll get a Thai ATM card - problem solved.
