  3. LG Service Centre is on Sukhumvit about 100 yards south of Pattaya Klang on the west side. For what it's worth I had a problem with my aircon about three months ago and they sent out their workmen who diagnosed that I needed a new control box. They said they'd call me when they had one in stock. I heard nothing for weeks and went to another aircon repair place on Thepprasit (PK Aircon), who diagnosed a faulty sensor and said it was a common fault. Within 40 minutes they had a man come and replace the sensor (450 baht). Last week I got a phone call from LG technician "Can I come today and replace control box?". Guess what I said, and guess if I'd employ them again.

OP what do you need servicing? I have had my LG phone fixed there in the past. It was a faulty battery but they couldn't fix it so they just gave me a new battery free of charge. No complaints from me.

i need a LG DVD /home theater system fixing

its there right now thanks to the guys on this forum..........

  4. Try the LPG installer located at Proton's office

thanks for the advice but i said LG (as in the brand name of an Electrical goods manufacturer) not LPG (as in Liquid Petroleum Gas)

  5. Some good suggestions here. Thanks for the feedback. Like I said, I am in no rush. I do however seriously doubt BPH will "match or beat" any lowest price you can present to them. That isn't the BPH that I know!

you do not know until you ask

it is the BPH i know, its a business like any other

    discounts are available

i got a double stenting job down from 925,000 on insurance to 320,000 cash for a friend

not just talk either, it was featured in a story in the Pattaya Today years ago.........

  6. Ch 51

    Are you a Corrie man?

Is it only Corrie and Emmerdale on here, or do they have anything else worth watching?

i saw Stars in their Eyes on Granada TV once

i remember one guy was being Glenn Miller

    he went through the fog

    never came back.......

  7. Having just gone through this with wifey, I highly recommend the driving school first. It'll keep you from pulling your hair out.

Seriously, I tried to teach her first, but it was frustrating. She went to school for a few weeks and was MUCH better. We then drove around Wat Yan, Silver Lake Winery, Phoenix Golf Course, etc. Phoenix is a great place to drive. Not much traffic and lots of roads to cruise around on. There's a big parking lot near Wat Yan that's great for teaching her how to park, back in, etc.

The school she went to is almost directly across from Foodland. Great service.

    my wife went there too

had 20 hours of lessons , passed first time and been creating havoc ever since........

there's a driving practice area opposite the temple at Lake Mabprachan

all laid out in roads, parking areas etc with ropes and tires

    not sure what it costs

  8. According to my son, the most farangs arrested for committing illegal offences in Chiang Mai are the Brits and coming in at a close second are the Dutch. The good guys among us are actually the Americans, who are usually of a better class than many of the scum arriving here from Europe

The Brits are mostly pulled in as over stayers, many have serious drug addictions and have literally been living and begging off the streets or shacked up in cheap slum type dwelling guest houses.

For offences the Australians, Scandinavians and Germans fall somewhere between the Brits and the Americans. The French are also well behaved and usually manage to keep out of trouble here.

I’m afraid I have to agree with many of the posters on here, that quite a few Brits that are plonking themselves in Thailand are of the lowest orders and perhaps the authorities should place stricter immigration procedures on farangs from certain countries.

that's rich coming from someone whose homeland literally invented organized crime .......

  9. Where else are you going to get a good burger in Pattaya?

Am I right in thinking that the Hilton does burgers in one of it's daily 350B lunchtime buffets?

If so, it's a fair bet that it will be a good one.

    Personally I wouldn't pay 5B for a burger as I don't like them.

    burgers are on Wednesdays

  10. timekeeper <deleted> <deleted>, never post stuff like this on the net - keep your sources private or they will no longer be whistling.gif

i don't like salad cream and have my own sources for the good stuff that i like......

  11. Na Na deli and cafe

top end of soi kao talao

on the left in the new shophouse section going up the hill

4 doors up from the yellow bank

they have all kinds of imported stuff

i saw it on sale there the other day

    foods pretty good too.........

  12. ok, log into your HSBC Uk account between 9am & 3pm UK time

look at Left side options column

    find:

    TRANSFER MONEY OVERSEAS

fill in the details of the destination bank and account numbers

opt for change to THB at destination

    senders pays all fees (£17)

reason for sending, AVIVA Payout or some other famous name linked to insurance to make it sound innocuous

    send.....

if there no holidays to get in the way at either end it will be in the Thai account the next day

decent exchange rate too mostly a few point above the day rate

if you are thinking of anything under £1000 don't bother

the HSBC ATM draw limit is usually £300 a day at a fee of £5.00 per

so 3x £300 from an Aeon ATM will get you £900 at a cost of £15

so after £1000 you are in profit on transfer as opposed to ATM

    its faster too...

    i hope that helps

Thanks Timekeeper, it helps a great deal.

The actually amount I want to transfer is £14000.

Just one other question, you mentioned the reason for sending. Our's is a car purchase. Is that not innocuous? or would it be better for us to do as you've mentioned. I'd hate to get caught in a lie, and end up getting stuffed down the line.

Do you also know if the rate i'd get is the same as the published rate on SCB website, you said it was a few points above, so I'm assuming it basically is?

Thanks again, you've been a great help!!

    don't send over 9.999

split it or it will be subject to a mandatory bank report and it will be flagged for investigation

a car purchase should be ok as a reason on both transactions

you will get slightly better than the website rate

You cant transfer more than about GBP 7,000 in a single internet-instructed transaction with HSBC anyway. You would have to phone the bank to make a GBP 14,000 transfer

looks like he could have sent £10,000 if he wanted to......
