  1. it was held today on the Beach road at 3pm

The media likely know this beforehand but say nothing. Weird...

it was a Buddhist celebration in advance of the big one in a few days

most of the participants were children from local schools

there were many different floats and many beautiful costumes

its not considered to be a tourist attraction so its not widely publicised

it happens every year at this time

make a note on next years calendar......

  2. my UK friend was 4 years overstay

he came into some money by an inheritance

so he went out four days ago at the airport

    paid the 20,000 overstay

    no problems, very polite etc

    had two days in KL

came back, got 30 days on entry, no comment by Immigration on entry and he is now planning to get a retirement visa

  3. am I the only one to list the rental prices? If I need to rent a car the last thing I want to do is drive around the dark side asking for prices and details. Personally, the Hertz promo is the best deal around and the service and vehicles are A+. 555thb a day.. how can you beat that? Oh, they are not on the darkside but I'm sure they will let you take the car to the darkside whistling.gif

they may have to change their money at the border though...........

  4. you can get a coach that travels along sukhumvit and past the front door

depending on where you are situated you can board it outside bangkok pattaya hospital or outside the petronas garage at central

look for a bangkok or siracha destination bus

    fare is about 40 baht

  5. theres a car hire place near to the Electricity generating compound on Soi Siam country club

i rented a chevy pick up there

did all the usual stuff, went over it with a fine toothcomb, took loads of pictures of the faults, marks etc

when i brought it back 3 days later they did not even look at it.......

  6. YOU NO LONGER COME BACK FOR YOUR PASSPORT - We have received several reports since November 2011 that Chonburi Immigration has changed the process. A lady sitting next to the Sgt. at Desk 6 will now take your documents and enter information into the computer before collecting your fee and giving your packet to the Sgt. He will affix the required stamps in your passport. The Lady Captain that sits behind him will review the documents, sign the extension stamp, and give you back your passport, everything completed.

That's how it exactly happened for me last March and for my friend two days ago.

I think it really depends on circumstances.... numbers of people in the office, computer down, authorized person being present, etc...

Note: we both had no problems with change being returned.

    thank you BB1950

  7. .

For years they had farangs come back the next day to pick up their passport. Occasionally, if you got there VERY early in the morning, they told you to come back later that afternoon.

This delay changed in the 4th quarter of 2011 when they streamlined the process. Last December, I received my passport back in a couple of minutes. Many other Expats reported the same. It seemed that Chonburi Immigration had finally done one thing that didn't unnecessarily inconvenience Expats. This is the notice that was posted at the time on the Pattaya City Expats Club website and published in their newsletter:

Obviously, they reverted back to their old ways sometime since then.

    surfrider

    THANK YOU!

  8. surfrider reported a start date not an end date

i had my passport back same day in the manner surfrider describes only last week

its obviously now an officer discretionary matter ......

How do you know it isn't the policy now in general?

    i don't care

i am TV community spirited but you have made me feel this way

    i got my passport back

    you didn't

    live with it

i am off to play freeplayo, its infinitely more riveting than this conversation.....

The current policy appears to be: go back the next day.

You inform us there was a SHORT PERIOD where the policy (at least) was to give the passport back the same day.

Personally I have always had to go back. As people only go in ANNUALLY for extensions, obviously if the policy changed for a short time then most people would have never experienced the better (faster) service.

Nothing in the expat club newsletter about there being two classes with defined criteria of applicants as far as getting their passports back or not.

    Cheers. coffee1.gif

  10. The paranoid side of me says to check police records. coffee1.gif

Wouldn't you think they can check that on a computer while they're processing the application?

My understanding is they have a special department to investigate foreign criminals. I am just speculating and can't think of any other reason why they hold the passports, except perhaps to annoy people and force us to take an extra trip there.

the applications are normally countersigned by the super at the end of each day or in the morning

however the last person to inspect the application has the authority to sign off on it if they wish and can give you the passport back there and then.

much will depend on whether you are a long termer with a number of previous extensions, you have had a few years with no changed address details and how you have presented and conducted yourself during the process

if they think you qualify as a low risk renewal with a good history, you will not need to go back to get it.......

  11. Yeah, I know that. But the cod I had at Jolly Friar's was terrible. Paid extra for worse fish. I should have sent it back.

I don't think a lot of people are ponying up for the good stuff. Consequently, it sits around and gets old (freezer burn).

Have you had the cod at Goose's?

i had cod on friday at jolly friar

    it was pretty good

better and bigger than Gooses i thought

  12. I just renewed my retirement visa wearing shorts in Jomtiem, many Farangs in shorts in fact Tourist Police Farang assistants now have custom made shorts that are optional to wear when on duty, much more comfortable.

This is not a post about what people wear and the Police/Immigration service - Stay on topic or start a new post !

look out ! wannabee Mod about!!
