  1. check www.phangan.info

my favourite is Dreamland Resort (Tong Nai Pan Yai Beach)

great beachfront location, a/c room @ 1000/night, the beach is good for swimming both in low and high tide

in may/june the tide is low in daytime, salad beach and had yao are shallow although have a proper concrete road access and great sunsets

in Salad beach - check the Salad Hut resort - new rooms around 2000 / night, swimming pool

if you want a busier place - go to had rin beach

  2. Thank you for the links Reimar,

I contacted the easyspace office in BKK, they told me they don't support .travel domains anymore and don't know which organization in Thailand can authorise me to have it.

Also received a reply from PATA, they do it only for PATA members, they offered the membership for 1000 USD per year :D

Called TAT, have been redirected a few times before the line dropped, so typical, didn't expect more for the first call.

Seems like I have to push TAT, quite a challenge I'd say.

    I'll post the results later.

  3. Hi all

I wonder if anyone has experience in registering a .travel domain for a thai company, which is properly registered and has the TAT license.

As I understand, I should apply for authentification first to one of travel assiciations, after they confirm that my company is tourism related, they issue identification code using which I can register a .travel domain name.

At this point I have a list of organizations who can authorise my business for .travel domain:

    ABA - American Bus Association

ABTA - Association of British Travel Agents

ACTA - Association of Canadian Travel Agencies

AFTA - Australian Federation of Travel Agents

    AH&LA - American Hotel & Lodging Association

ANVR - Algemeen Nederlands Verbond van Reisondernemingen

ARTA - Association of Retail Travel Agents

ASTA - American Society of Travel Agents

ASTOI - Associazione Tour Operator Italiani

ATTA - Adventure Travel Trade Association

    CHA - Caribbean Hotel Association

CLIA - California Lodging Industry Association

Destination Marketing Association International (formerly IACVB)

ETOA - European Tour Operators Association

HAC - Hotel Association of Canada

    IH&RA - International Hotel & Restaurant Association

IMG - International Motor Coach Group. Inc

ISTC - International Student Travel Confederation

MATTA - Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents

NACTA - National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents, Inc

NATAS - National Association of Travel Agents Singapore

NBTA - National Business Travel Association

    NTA - National Tour Association

OSSN - Outside Sales Support Newtwork

PATA - Pacific Asia Travel Association

TAANZ - Travel Agents Association of New Zealand

TBCSA - Tourism Business Council of South Africa

TIAC - Tourism Industry Association of Canada

TIANZ - Tourism Industry Association New Zealand

    TTA - Travel Trade Association

UFTAA - United Federation of Travel Agents' Association

    UMA - United Motorcoach Association

USTOA - United States Tour Operators Association

WACVB - Western Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus

WTTC - World Travel & Tourism Council

There are no Thai Tourism bodies here.

PATA seems to be most relevant.

Has anyone done the procedure for a Thai company?

Or perhaps a web hosting company can handle the whole process?

I'd appreciate if you could share your experience.

  4. I ordered mine by catalog in a computer shop on Koh Samui

there were about 10 different configurations from 25 to 45 thousand baht approximately

so you can choose from the models

the card reader is actually a small unit on the front panel with 4 slots for different card types of which there is such a long list

I don't think the supplier will give a discount for canceling mouse, kb or modem (modem is btw very basic - no voice functions) - i suppose worth a thousend baht altogether

however there is an option to choose a monitor - smaller or bigger, widescreen or not

but the default 19" is quite sexy, our office girl loves it ))

  5. http://www.shop4thai.com/en/product/?pid=18625

    try this or similar

great spec for the price, small case and great look

we got one like this (also hp, similar spec) for our office recently

runs very quiet, fast, had no problem for 2 months (knocking on wood )))

just up and running 24/7 with as file, print, fax server and being used for office work, graphics and watching movies

capable to run games like quake4 and BF2 smoothly on medium settings or higher

the best thing about it - a really great bright and sharp 19inch widescreen display - want to have the same one for my laptop now ))

i assmbled quite a lot of pcs in the past and this is the first brand name desktop i bought

no regrets, good quality, good value for money, lots of time saved

  6. (Never having been to Samui, all I have is 3rd hand info, but) isn't Samui Airport a private airport restricted to only Bangkok Air?

it is private but not restricted to BA only, there is a flight to KL by Berjaya Air imo overpriced at ~9000 THB for return ticket by a small and slow plane,

it's great to have an affordable international flight to Penang for visa runs

for ticketing - try Samui High Speed Group on Chaweng (in the soi in front of Central Samui)

they sell all airlines including AirAsia, 12Go etc, should have this flight too

most travel agents use the company - they're the biggest wholesale ticketing agent in Samui

    tel 077 231102-4

  7. Thank you all for replies and the link to 2004 dental thread )

I used the Samui International dentist on Chaweng Beach Road a few times before, basic equipment and setting but ok for me, however my doctor left to Bangkok recently to upgrade his drilling skills.

    Will check your places.

P.S. like the Supaporn name too )
