  1. Giving a bogus address might work for a retirement extension.

But it won't work for a marriage extension. They have been known to make a vist to check if you are living with the wife.

Plus you might end up making a longer trip for your 90 day reports or to get a re-entry permit.

Thanks for the info. I will be working in a town about 60 miles from my home and staying there, Monday/Friday.

Not retirement or marriage extension. Thanks anyway.

  2. Just been advised to give a Khon Kaen address so as to report to Nong Khai in future.

Their reputation is not a lot better. :)

Agreed, but for the last 5 years I was delt with by them. Not good but compared with Mukdahan, it was a pleasure.

  3. After 14 hours (including 7 hours total driving). I finally got a 7 day extention at the cost of 1900B. I have to go back with temp work permit at 750B. Then get a 1 year visa for a further 1900b. Then back to the work permit for a 1 year renewal at 3100. That's just the cost.

I took copies of 1. Temp teachers licence. 2. Letter from the regional education office.3. Letter and contract from school 4.Medical certificate. 5. Application for new work permit. 6. Every used page of my passport. 7. Old work permit. 8. Proof of tax payment. 9. Wife and child.

Not good enough. They want originals, no copies. Got the buggers I thought, these items are in the car.

No, the regional office did not state my salary per month in their letter although it is stated in my contract.

Now anyone that thinks a teachers licence is not required. Try and get a visa without at Mukdahan. It was the second thing they asked to see after my passport.

The little smarmy gent asked for proof of my daughter's relationship to me. That's when I told him to suck my socket set. What has that got to do with me teaching.

    Just a warning lads.

  5. My friend an myself have just been informed that due to the new rules,we are now unemployed.

The students were paying 400B per annum to pay our salaries. Now they are not allowed to pay, so no farang teachers. Anyone in the same position?

I feel like I've been dumped on by the government again.

Employing foreigners to teach falls outside the free education system and it's up to the school if they want to do that and consequently employ foreign teachers. However the minister said the school would have to ask the parents' consent first before charging extra, and if a minority disagreed their kids would still have the right to learn, presumably free. I can see this leading to disagreements between parents. I'm wondering if this only applies to state schools.

If the parents of your students were only paying 400 baht per annum you must have been teaching an awful lot of kids to make it worthwhile for the school to pay your salary!

    Yes mate, 789. Now 0.

  7. We have an Engish lad wanting to teach at our school. He will complete his TEFL course soon at KKU.

Looking at new rules. He needs a temporary teaching licence. First you must teach in Thailand for one year to get the licence, also you can't get the licence without a WP. You can't get a WP without a licence and you can't get a visa without a licence and without a WP you can't get a visa.

Confused? Beats the s##t out of me.

    Any help for him?

    :o:D:D:D

  8. "If you teach, a copy of teachers licence, tax payment and social benefit card (which your school should supply)."

How many teachers have a teacher's license, I don't think too many if any, I could however give them a copy of my application for a teacher's license. Issangeorge.

Sorry for any misunderstanding. When I said Teachers licence. I meant temporary licence from Bk. Every teacher must have this. Without this all people teaching are doing so illegally.

  9. Just returned to Mahasarakham from my first trip to Mukdahan immigration(bless them).

I thought it would be the same as Nong Kai. You know fill in the form hand it over and 5 minutes your on your way home. No, not now. You need a copy of every used page in your passport. If you teach, a copy of teachers licence, tax payment and social benefit card (which your school should supply).

This is required for your 90 day report not a visa. When I told them it was a 90 day report the lady became rather nasty and told me to listen. Oops ok.

The lady also told me I must report in person, not by mail.

  10. I was at Nong Khai immigration office yesterday. I was informed by Mr Happy not to go back there, but to do my 90 day report and apply for visa at Mukdahan as from now.

This is just a little advice to call imm to see where you should go to report.

The area's mentioned were; KK. Roi-Et and Mahasarakham.

I'm only trying to give info. I don't need any Norwegian flag waver replying. Senior member or not.

    Visa

I have changed jobs and due to the work permit office messing things up I now have to get a non imm b in Lao. Problem is I am 5 day overstay. Question is, can I pay the fine at passport control at Friendship bridge or do I have to go to Nong Kai immigration to pay?

    Thanks in advance.
