  1. Both scb and K plus are offering fixed accounts yielding about 9k per annum on two and quarter rates advertised so 18k over the term. They say you can withdraw immediatly by forfitting the interest. Will this work for Immigration or does it have to be my normal savings account. The only other easily accesible bank is Krung Thai and with no account may be a hassle to open? Thanks for any advice esp from experience, there is no TMB Bangkok, Ayuddha locally
  2. How to make friends and influence people eh? As retired and wealthy pay someone to ring the office comes to mind.

  5. I understand a fair point, uk debit card extremy handy to scan on Heathrow or Gatwick Express, I have a Thai mastercard not certain, regardless of unknown rate and overseas charges it'll work on uk transit systems, I prefer leave my thai cards in Thailand. For those who used to queu to buy or reload oysters, most transport in London don't take cash. Can you use a QR code at ticket barriers Heathrow or Gatwick, probably the way foward ?
  6. I read post Brexit many UK financial insstitutions cannot posst to EU. I would like to maintain UK accounts as convenient for visits and I often make online purchases in sterling. Ss far AIB NAB and Citi no issues, The post Office usually leave a collect card in locked external Mail box, couriers seem to slide under the gate Nationwide and Wise cards will come up for renewal. I have looked at their websites seems no mention of Thailand. Be most grateful for any advice esp those who have received a renewed ( not first) cards here. My belief is Wise will renew, Nationwide not so clear? Thanks in advance for any help.
  7. Flight earch engine allows you to exclude any type of plane from a earch. Once you have choen the carrier you can refine the earch ome have no max in their fleet.Having flown in 4 seater in the Nepalese Himalaya anything with a galley is an upgrade and safer than the local roads.
  8. Not nit picking but the embassy is in the capital Ha Noi, the tiny office in Ho Chi M is a consulate. If you were to book travel to the embassy you will end up in Ha Noi not in lovely Sai Gon probably the friendliest and most efficient I ever dealt with pre Covid.
  9. Is it the nice small towel offered by attendant in top tier bathrooms or the graceful tissue issue in the plastic roll at pavement restaurant perhaps? Or the the emolument too shoddy for the smooth as silk ilk
  10. Are you sure? I find K bank reliable,I also have several BKK accounts The one with a debit card cost I think 400 to issue , 300 a year to renew and a monthly charge of 15 baht so 480 baht a year, a trivial sum perhaps it depend on the branch?
  11. All above would be fine in Scandanavia where tax officer wont welcome an envelope to fix things by his friend the 'agent'.
  12. You can see how attractive simply taxing all Int transfers and use of ATM cards at say 35% would be RD and what a disaster for tourism.I cannot see how the ATM network will know how many days a person has been in the kingdom in the current year? If immigration, who else? will have the work and time to provide letters, confirming their own entry and departure stampss posssibly in multiple passports for every single foreigner here over 18 days I can well see they'll reciprocrate by asking us to prove we have made a tax return or proved a tax number. The uncertainty is counter productive and will deter the very invetors who spend big. Even if they nab every penioner with a meagrre 50,000 a month it will not net much and ceate mase of work for little reward.Others will just remit their monthly needss and keep offsshore for other savingss investments etc.

  14. Instead of transfer to self would sending to thai family as gift mean it would not need to be declared as imported income. i.e.donate to wife and kids via wise rather than distribute it once already here in my wn account? If transfers in to buy condos folks will go elsewhere, the uncertainty deters investment surely? I fear they will make an assssesssment at a high level for all and theonus will be on uss to disprove appeal , clain refund due to dul tax, an awkward time consuming processs with different tax years rates. The only winners will be accountantss and copy shops. For pensioners on fixed incomes monies taken by the regime will not be spent in the real economy or remitted to relatives.
  15. I do not wish to be awkward but all uk penssions are income in uk whether private, state or combo. My mother was a senior tax consultant in Uk so I know the guidlines. Of course if a person has only the meagre state pension around 200 pounds a week, or less for those without full contribution record, they are under thethreshold in UK, plus the added "benefit" that it will decline as not uprated for Thai residents.. My private pensions are not in sterling and I may have to pay but with allowances of almost 500k may be cheaper to jusy bite the bullet or once dust settles employ a local accountant.Up to you.I may well leave fund offhore and ue for vacation air ticket etc o that money never ever brought in. IMHO this has been poorly thought out. Unless every credit card ATM is taxed, bitcoin gold , cash on arrival checked it may come down to usual revesal when RD have hindeds of frustrated farangs and tourists , same Immigration when we all need them to add days on those who hve multiple passports. Irish plus UK plus kiwi passports etc If they tax ATM hit tourism, if they dont it will be a wy to avod I jut take 20k a week from my Autralian bank Again regrads DT treaty there may be arbitrgae and will have to claim back . With thousands of expats hundreds of tax systems currencies I can see tehonly ones to benfit will be the accountants copy shops. I cannot imagine anyone but immigration will be acceptable proof here of how many days for RD. Not sure I will be in LOS for 18- days befor 2568 but forewarned is fore armed. I think it will deter new retirees , old ones wiyh homes families pets will just spend less. Digital nomads and others yung and flexible enough may not quit but just arrange to be in no more than the permitted number of days.
  16. Was she Chinese or an ASEAN citizen, Myanmar, Thai etc though? , I read it was open for local not European American etc
  17. Excellent point. In addition to passport stamps (of course some people have more than one from different nations like Ireland AND Australia or UK and Ireland, NZ and UK among people I know) I expect Tax Office will only accept passport info from immigration with stamp js, chops, dated same day if they wish to be awkward, .It all makes work for them and us potentially. In most tax dealings the onus may be on the foreigner, they "Think of a number" 1 Prove worldwide income , have it all documented, time expense 2 The various currencies , policies, bonds, trust , rental income will prove complex requiring accountants esp if from various places like home rental EU, Pensions from Ireland and NZ all in different currencies. 3 Prove date of importation, bank letters ATM receipts? 4 Once you are located they may just assess and we will have the issues of recovery from "home " state if DT treaty 5 All such matters may deter new arrivals but retirees with homes gardens wives kids grandkids pets will be loathe to relocate unless on very high income. 6 I am not over worried will just wait and see however having not just a number but confirmation of income and all tax paid would be a very easy regulation for revenue to require of immigration and a very boring expensive one for us to document. 7 The only ones to benefit will be accountants lawyers, gold ,crypto dealer and copy shops as pensioners who remit entre income will have less disposable income to spend in the local economy .If Instead of 72k pcm the taxman takes a slice that's just less to spend. Those with more than their monthly needs are likely to invest or spend offshore. 8 An example I usually spend around 180k per year on air tickets from Thai International using a local bank card. If I know that money remitted here will be taxed I will use a card from home country, many similar examples 9 ATM machines They could try and add tax on foreign cards in addition to the 150-200 baht bank fee. Easy the Tax Office gets revenue from the banks. this in addition to bank transfers However this will be a tax on all tourists, visitors, business people and wont deal with the big fish, yet I think this method may appeal to them start low say a negligible amount like 0.5% then creep Best Wishes for the Holidays everyone and don't fret it may never happen, but failing to prepare is preparing to fail
