  1. The Tiger eX-Sachs eX-Road 250.

Yeah, doesn't matter what it is called. It looks like a nice alternative to other choices out there, and as Tony said backed by Tiger's great service team and a 3 year warranty. You probably won't get that in Thailand from a Sachs named bike that is no longer backed by the Tiger factory.

What about the Tiger X-Moto 250 as a name?

Alex and Tony, let me know when you go and play at Bira; i'd like to come and watch the fun!

Taichiplanet, when i get the bike, i will let you and Tony know and will probably try to put some pictures here. As Tony said, it could be a real fun bike for going around the little cart racing track.

Same as you said, i don't really mind how the bike is called, i like the bike (only seen it on the pictures) and i want to give it a try. At least it is something else then all the D-trackers.

And i think it is a great deal, a bike like this for this price.

  2. Saw this bike at the 2010 Bangkok Motorbike Shot and I thought the X-road 250 looks pretty sharp. I don't care if it's a Tiger or a Sachs, but if it's got Tiger service then that's a plus.

The red trellis frame and swing arm, matte black tank, offset shock, underseat exhaust- all quite nice.

Headlight is boring but easily replaced. About the only thing I really dislike- the instrument cluster is really tiny and cheap looking; I'd replace it with a Koso gauge first thing.

I suspect it will have underwhelming torque and Hp figures similar to that of the Kawasaki D-Tracker, but at a much lower cost. It "looks" like a motard, but you'd never want to take this bike on any serious off road adventures with the exhaust where it is now - directly under the engine, just waiting to be smashed.

    012810SachsXRoadSm.jpg

I'm tempted to get one but a bit loathe to buy a bike that I've never ridden and that, as far as I can tell, has never been reviewed on the road...

    013010SachsXRoad250aSSR.jpg

Not sure where I'd use a bike like this. Urban assault, stunting and small tracks perhaps?

Somebody hurry up and buy one so I can take it for a spin!

    Ride On!

    Tony

    Tony,

I just ordered one today, so when i get it, you are more then welcome to try it out.

Just let me know when you are planning to go to Bira again, i will come see you there.

I think it will look good next to the good old ZX9R and the R1.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  3. Richard, what is your problem with Tiger ?

I still think that Tiger is a much better bike quality wise then most of the chinese bikes that you are constantly promoting.

Everywhere i hear very positive reactions from people about the service from Tiger and the quality of their bikes.

And i think it is a great deal, a bike like the X-road for this kind of money.

Mbox, thanks for all your help with getting me one, i am looking forward to get my new X-road, next to my good old ZX9R.

  4. less than 2000cc and FWD should sell at less than a million, as mazda 3 does

    2011 Mazda3 2.0L is now 1.07M base price..

Just on a side note, the next-gen Escape will be available in TH with a 2.0L Duratec TDCi (making 160'ish HP) + powershift gearbox from the 2012 Focus. Pricing will be more inline with Captiva (1.3-1.5M) at this spec level though.

    Hi MRO,

Good to have you back here.

Do you have an idea when the new Escape comes with this 2 liter TDCi , will it be this year or in 2012 ? I would be in for that one, we don't need a big car like a Fortuner or Everest model car.

A model like Escape/Kuga (or CRV but not have diesel available) would be good enough for us. The new Ssangyong Korando is also an option.

  5. MRO,

Do you know if there is any news about Honda bringing a CRV with diesel engine ?

And if the Nissan Juke will come, will it be with diesel or petrol engine ?

    Regards,

    alex

  6. NormanW

Thanks for posting the pics. I'm curious as to who was displaying the bikes was it the companies such as Suzuki and Yamaha themselves or someone else ? Reason I ask I didn't think the Hayabusa for instance was for sale in Thailand

Nor is the GSXR, nor is the Gladius. They're all here but grey import only. So yes I'd like to know too who was displaying those bikes. Suzuki? A dealer?

When I was looking at the GSXR1000 in Central, someone in a Suzuki shirt came up to me and told me that the GSXR1000 was not for sale. But he told me that the GSXR1300 Hayabusa was for sale.

Haven't asked him how and what exactly because i wasn't interested in the Hayabusa.

Also Mityon is advertizing with the Hayabusa in their brochures on the show.

About Suzuki big bikes, on their website they have the Hayabusa, GSXR1000 and GSXR750 (and many more models). Last year on the motorshow in BKK they offered a GSXR750 for somewhere around 700.000 baht.

But i didn't contact Suzuki Thailand to find out what they really offer here and not.

  7. Mr Kato said Honda expected to market big bikes in Thailand as well after waiting two years for the economy to revive.

About flippin' time! I'm a big Honda fan and have been waiting for the Big H to get their act together in the Land of Smiles.

    Bring it on!

    Hi Tony,

In the Nation from yesterday was more mentioned about big bikes, something about starting producing big bikes in Thailand too.

    Regards,

    alex

  8. Article about new Honda model in October in Bangkok Post and the Nation.

Something mentioned about big bikes too, looks like they finally will come...

  9. Thanks for the advice. I will try the transport office as well as the police to see if they can't help as well. ??

Even if ya can't transfer. you can still get insurance and tax each year. So as long as you didn't blow a huge amount of money on it . dont worry to much. If you can get a signed Power of Attourney (must be written in Thai) letter AND a copy of his passport with a signatore on each page plus your relevant docs then no problem.

The other way is to go down to the transport office with a Thai speaker to explain things then when ya hand over ya docs have 2,000b extra inside (tip). That should do it.

And how did it go ? Any news ?

  10. I use Shell Advance VSX 4T 10W40 semi-synth in my ZX9R, if i remember well it cost around 180 baht / liter, and i am happy with it.

My oilfilter is a K&N, forgot how much that cost me, bought at Fastcorner in BKK.

I wanted the Shell Ultra 4 10W40 fully synth oil, but couldn't find this one in Thailand.

Back home i tried several kinds of oil in several bikes, Motul was a good one, Shell was good.

I tried one time Castrol Superbike Synth oil (this was in 1998-1999), because that was then the nr.1 oil at the time, well not for me and most of my friends, all of us started to have slipping clutches within a few hundred km after we start using it (FZR1000, YZF750, Fireblade, YZF1000 Thunderace).

For sure i wouldn't mess around with diesel engine oils and car filters on my bikes.

  11. I had some stainless brakelines made by Julian (farang) from hel_l Brakelines for my ZX9R and KSR here in Bang Lamung.

He has a shop on Bang Lamung, he can make them as original and custom, however you want or need it., about 15 different colours.

Excellent quality and service. If you want his number, then PM me.

  12. i got a Jazz instead of an ugly beast of a pick up

& you would be an expert on UGLY, anyone who buys one of the ugliest Hondas ever produced would know. Honda Jazz :)

I think taste varies.. kinda like intelligence. Guys who like pickups are usually hillbillies or trailer trash.

Not classing you as either one but facts are facts.

Normal cars are usually used by business people and civilized city folk :D

There are of course exceptions to this rule (not many :D )

    @robblok

    Facts are facts ??????

Looks to me that you don't know your facts, you only have your little view of the little world you live in.

All your goods that you buy in BKK with your Jazz, how did they come there ? Are you saying that these (hard working business) people who brought them there with their pickups are hillbillies or trailertrash ?

Have you ever been upcountry in Thailand ? Lots of business people and civilized city folk are having pickups for several reasons.

The local business people use pickups to make money with it, because with a Jazz you can't make money, a Jazz will only cost money.

And you see this in many other countries, not only Thailand.

  13. Shell has stopped the Benzine 95 - this is a real shame and my Subaru is meant for Benzine only.

I refuse to drive a boring car!

What Shell station and when? My wife filled the tank a few days ago with V-power. (Benzene 95)

Well, as far as i know the Shell at Pattaya North, just before the Pattaya Bangkok Hospital has stopped selling V-power Benzene 95.

This was the only Shell station around in Pattaya that i knew which had this V-Power Benzene 95. I stopped at several other Shell stations when i came from BKK and Rayong, and from other trips in the last weeks, never found another Shell station with V-Power Benzene 95.

At which station did your wife found the V-Power benzene ?

  14. As new Nissan Tiida Hatchback for sale, from 11-2007 (2,5 year old) with only 14.000 km.

    1.6 engine, automatic transmission.

Farang owned, always serviced at Nissan Pattaya. Full service history known and available.

All manuals, books, spare keys, etc are with the car.

Reason for sale : Bought a new car.

    Price : 500.000 baht.

    post-48976-1274681040_thumb.jpg

  15. Never an LPG car for me anymore. More maintenance costs with LPG, engines is running hotter, problems with cylinder heads, problems with adjusting the LPG injection system. Maybe i was just unlucky, but not an LPG car for me again.

Diesel car is my first choice, diesel engines have low maintenance costs, had several diesel cars when i was living in Europe, easily running up to 300.000-400.000 km without problems, still going strong.

If Honda would bring their 2.2 diesel CRV or Accord here on the market or Toyota their 2.0 D4D engine in the Camry, i would be in for one.

Have currently petrol cars here in LOS, never had a problem with them so far.

I have no experiences with NGV.

  16. Just came back from the True Value store in Pattaya South. Bought a small bottle of Octane Boost, will try it out and see what happens.

Looks like this is the real stuff, simular as i used years ago a few times in Holland.

Also filled up a can with Benzene 95 at Caltex in Pattaya South. Caltex station on the west side of Sukhumvit has it, between Makro and Tesco, the one on the east side of Sukhumvit behind the Ford garage does not have it.

  17. I also checked the "additives" at Carrefour. Although they are clearly labelled and marketed heavily by the three(!) salesmen who tried to get me to spend anything from 200 to 2,000 baht as fuel "boosters", they are not. If you read the labels carefully they are no more than engine cleaners designed to clean fuel injectors and carb jets. I bought a bottle of additive at PTT (Jiffy) for 100 baht which should treat 50 litres of petrol - I will see what happens.

Well while I don't read Thai, the BOOSTER I purchased brand name Karshine clearly states in English on the front label that it boosts fuel and 91 gasohol to 95 octane rating...Seems you let the clueless salesman who just wants to make a commission and thinks you don't know what you really want steer you to the wrong section.. I also saw but didn't purchase due to size STP octane booster and I know for a fact that is what it does, along with the other additional benefits you mentioned.

I could be wrong so I'll check again next time, but all the additives are next to each other so comparing them's pretty straightforward. I think I remember the Karshine one as having Booster very prominently on the front, with a 3-way diagram of 91 and 95 gasohol being "boosted", while the back was very clear that any "boosting" was only because your engine would be cleaner and not because you should add so much per litre to boost the fuel. I'll let you know.

Karshine is the booster that i found in Surin in the Makro when we were visiting family there. They had a additive for cleaning the injection system and this Booster for octane rating for fuel. I looked before for it in Pattaya, never found it.

However, the wife just filled up the car this morning at Calltex in Pattaya North, where they had Benzene 95.

  18. I understand that impossible to predict unpredictable but anyone can give me some suggestions - do I have any chance tomorrow morning go from Asoke to Pattaya by motorway? I have important business meeting, but, of course, absolutely not sure that can reach destination.....

Highway 7 was free and easy all the way from Suvarnbhumi last Saturday. Just a few soldiers sitting around at the toll booths but traffic was light. No advice on weekday mornings.

Yesterday we went from Pattaya to BKK over the Motorway 7, up to the junction with Highway 9, everything was free.

Just like Sean said, there was more police then usual at the toll booths and there were at the last toll boot some soldiers.

We returned back from BKK (Sukhumvit) to Bang Na, went there up on the 3 express way to Chonburi, from there back on the 7 again to Pattaya, was free all the way, only the usual police at the toll boot.

  19. Shell still sell it at selected stations - what you need to look for on the pump is this:

    วี-เพาเวอร์ เบนซิน

    (V-Power Benzene)

They have an info line you can call to find the nearest station that stocks it: 0-2657-9888

Edit: A quick way to check whether your getting the benzene V-Power rather than the Gasohol type is price: V-Power Benzene is currenty 42.2 Baht/litre vs 35.5 Baht/litre for the gasohol variant.

V-power benzene is not available in Pattaya anymore since last week. We asked and they told that they would not sell it anymore.

They didn't told us why they stopped selling it.

I need a 95 octane benzene in my motorbike (ZX9R) and since the last 3-4 months i used the V-power benzene in the Honda City too.

The car was running much better on it then all other brand gasohol 91's and 95's that i tried.

Only place that i know in Pattaya is Calltex in Pattaya South who has benzene 95 but i haven't been there in the last few months.

    Regards,

    alex

  20. Honda City, very good car for in the city and for longer distances. Ours is now 1 year old, has done 25.000 km and we get 13-14 km/liter in the city and 18 km/liter on the highway with longer trips. This is our second Honda City, never had any issues with both cars.

We have a Nissan Tiida Hatchback too, drives excellent but fuel consumption is slightly higher then the Honda City. The Tiida is a higher car then the City which gives a bit more interior space then the City, little handy detail from Tiida is that you can move the rear bench to create even more interior space. Tiida is 2,5 year old with 15.000 km, never had any issue with it.

    Regards,

    alex
