  1. Let me guess...you haven't been in Thailand long.
  2. You get nothing until you decide to convert some of those USD to Baht. But then, you probably knew that already. The ignorant are the only ones that don't know the real story...
  3. You need to get that woman away from the family (maybe). I took my wife away from the village...to the US where we resided (among other places) until we returned to live here in Thailand. My wife got jobs and I made it clear that whatever money she earned was hers to do whatever she wanted. She sent some to her family occassionally, but mostly she fed her own wants and saved the rest. Upon our return to Thailand to live, she spent most of her savings and some of mine on building our first house here. Mind you she always worked and now receives a monthly check. I also give her some of mine, but I take care of us and the household, she is free to do whatever she wants with hers. We (meaning me) have never had a problem... Get out of dodge man. If she come with you, she'll love you for it. And she isn't working, then shame on you!
  4. Wait a minute...what's this about giving monthly payments to the wife's parents??? That a bunch of bunk! 5. Hmmm. Spent the money and didn't tell you. On the other hand, you haven't been monitoring your account. I could become a victim same as you. Thanks for the reminder. I do keep an eye on things at all times - so should we all...
  6. Check YouTube...there are several videos on there one about Pattaya using the Bolt App...
  7. According to the Bolt Taxi information I just searched, you can order a ride and pay for it all through their Bolt App... Your driver(s) could be ripping off the company.
  8. You don't go into a branch to get the app. You go to the Google Play or Apple App store on your phone and download the app. Enter your account details and you're in...
  9. Some people haven't figured out that paying off your balance monthly precludes any interest charges.
  10. Please...anyone who has spent 5 minutes in Thailand knows that farmers were not the primary benefactors. People are only "out of pocket" if one invests in a market they don't fully understand...
  11. Went right over your head...it's about reducing the money spent chasing and jailing people over a drug not much more dangerous (if even) than alchohol. We're talking about millions (billions) of Baht. Oh, and let's not to forget the taxable legal commerce created. Income, regardless of the amount, is way better than expenses.
  12. Yes, you're right, but it's true. No one expresses their real thoughts and opinions. All you have to do is read the comments when someone is accused of wrongdoing... Look at the stark differences between comments about Blacks versus Whites (regardless of national origin) Asians, Muslims (from any country), Arabs, Russians... Go ahead prove me wrong. Weird, no, reality. Racist, yes, you act like racism doesn't exist.
  13. Granted, you may know where you are and what's going on around you. Weird statement - I think not. By the way, I known hundreds over the years and many are still living here...most have moved on. This is not about knowing someone for a certain amount of time. Just read some of the questions asked by members of this forum - both old expats and newbies - and you'll see that many are in fact "fish out of water." Maybe not you specifically, but many constantly can't understand that they're "Not In Kansas Anymore" or the UK or Austrailia, or Denmark, etc., etc., etc...
  14. Well that about covers everyone here. I have to guess you don't associate with anyone. But then, if you're actually black like the picture in your profile, then "farangs" and many asians for that matter aren't seeking you out for conversation and friendship in the first place... That said, your comments ring true.
  15. My God! 1974...I thought I was the only one here that has been in and out of Thailand since those early days. Actually I first set foot here in 1972. The people showing up here in the last 15 years or so are "mostly" totally lost souls...meeting a "good" person out and about in villages/towns/cities, malls restaurants etc. is almost impossible. Good being subjective - like anything these days.
  16. The last time I opened an account at Bangkok Bank was back in 2019 with a Non-Imm "O-A" visa. They ask if I had anyone who could vouch for me. I had a friend married to a teacher at the local Rajchabat (City) University who went along with me and viola, they opened an account for me in about 30 minutes... No other paperwork needed except for my passport. They said any government official, (police, teacher, Pooyai Ban [Village Headman] present account holder, etc. would suffice. - It also says this very thing on Bangkok Bank's website.
  17. Maybe because thousands of Pattaya visitors have a habit of bringing loads of cash. I really don't know...besides I've never set foot in Pattaya - always been an up-country/Issan type of guy myself and no problems using an ATM or getting money over the counter at a bank...
  18. In the unlikely event you haven't figured it out already, "they" already have total control over your money. Just because you can take out a few "cash" bills every now and then means nothing. Try getting your money out of a bank that has a "run" in progress...not happening!
  19. That's not a good argument. During numerous visits here I only brought a small amount of cash just for incidentals along with my debit and credit cards. Never needed an account, and I've been coming here for 20 years...
  20. I'm happy and sad for them at the same time. I told my wife if she ever hits the lottery, please give me time to get a flight to my home country before she tells everyone...
  21. I expect that if someone adds me as a trusted friend, they would let me know. The fact this happened "unexpectedly" is what aroused my suspicion and potentially averted the hack.
  22. Good point...I shall proceed accordingly!
  23. Got a Facebook Message from a person I consider an associate that appears to be a hacking attempt. A question I thought would be very easy to answer took over 12 hours before I got a reply. Now, there is nothing wrong with getting a reply 12 hours later, it's just that shortly after, I got a follow up message from that same person professing to need my "assistance". He said his "phone was messed up, and he needs to recover his information". I replied that I wasn't a phone tech and told him to contact his service provider and they would know how to recover his phone. Fast forward to 7 days later and said person messages me again saying "Send me your phone number" to receive a code (mind you he didn't say security code) so he could unlock and/or restore his phone's data. Now I'm thoroughly puzzled. I unwittingly sent him my phone number right away thinking I would receive a code of some sort which I would then forward to him. Oh, and one thing I didn't mention before is that the first name on the account had changed to one I didn't recognize. That's when it hit me...I should probably ask him for his phone number so I can talk to him, make sure it is in fact him and just give him the code over the phone. When I asked him for his phone number, the account immediately got deleted! Now I'm wondering what actually happened. Did his phone get lost and someone is trying to activate it? Is someone trying to get access to private information to steal money from a bank account? A blackmail attempt? A scornful partner trying to dig up some dirt? Hopefully the person I'm referring to sees this post and replies so we can clear up this mystery...
