  1. The mods advised using a translation service to forward the materials for MFA certificate (as they already have the knowledge where and how and do for marriage paperwork), not that a translation service document would be accepted.

Lopburi 3 -with respect 'George' wrote on 25/10/07 "save your trip to Bangkok- any decent translation company in Pattaya, or elsewhere, can fix this for you with a letter of attorney."

He did not say what you have said above. It may mean that to experts but I would have done what Scotsman did.

  2. We seem to have cleared the air regarding credit/atm cards.

If you have to: use the least creditworthy one. Dont offer it.

What about the MFA stamp on pension verification letters for those applying to extend on basis of marriage to thai.

That , although discounted several weeks/ posts ago has raised its head again. That will be a real pain in the a***

This is not a rumour it has happened to two TV members in Jomtien recently.

The advice from mods to get a lawyers letter / translation etc was not acceptable to immigration.

( this applies to Jomtien office at the moment I expect - more tourist's here apparently!)

  3. They kept my 'original' letter in Jomtien office- I did try to give them a copy. New one next time I expect.

Are you a UK passport holder- you say 'embassy' in your post but are you aware the Brtiish consul can do the letter for you in CM.

    Same price Bht2448

In Jomtien two TV members applying for extension on 'married to thai' have been told they must go to MFA in BKK to get the stamp from them.

I have not read any other reports from other imm offices regarding this requirement.

Jomtien has its own peculiarities it would seem.!!!!!!!!!

  4. As far as I can see no TV member has been asked for a copy of their ATM / Credit card in Jomtien this week - good , hopefully it will just go away. ( but at the end of the day, even though no one would volunteer such informaion, if they ask for one we will just have to comply with the card of least exposure.)

More nauseus is the requirement for Gustav and Scotman to get a MFA stamp on the 'pension /income verification letter. ( Scotman didn't in the end I know as he went to 'retirement')

This would seem to only apply to 'marriage to thai' extensions as Scotman I suspect still used his 'pension income verification letter' to form part of the income requirements for retirement but did not have to go to BKK to get the MFA stamp.

Advice to get a lawyer to translate etc did not work. Jomtien insisted they go to MFA in BKK for stamp.

Has anyone else applying for an extension this week ( based on marriage to thai) had the same problems.

On these two members experience it would imply a new rule.

  5. I am lost. In Jomtien.

Can any TV members who intend to extend their visa this coming week based on 'marriage to a thai national' report back:

If you used a embassy/consul letter to verify all / part of your income did they say you need a stamp from MFA in Bangkok?

If yes would they accept a notarised translation from a passing solicitor in Pattaya?

Did they ask for copies of your ATM / Credit cards?

  6. I am a novice in these matters but I extended my non imm 'o' visa based on retirement last week in Jomtien. The extension 'bit' just says 'retirement' extended to blah blah. It makes no mention of the type of visa on the previous page.

The O-A visa, I think, is only obtained at a consulate outside Thailand so I cant see how you can comply with the banks request.

More experienced members will hopefully give more advice.

  7. I extended my non o visa to retirement on 21 October. I have a joint bank account and also had to provide a copy of my marriage certificate. I can see the reasoning for that.

Where do the PDEC get there information from ? The article did not quote an immigration source- as far as i can see.

I notice in another visa thread ' caught out by new rules 'someone in Jomtien has been told to get a MFA stamp. Looking back through the old threads I thought that had been been rescinded.

I have been in Thailand 38 days as opposed to your 38 years so I have no experience to share.

I would definately be hesitant to give copies of credit cards though. -That would seem a step too far.

Maybe the UK consul could be asked to clarify this for us all. ( Or your consul if you are not Brit and have your own.)

  8. Mon-Fri 9-9.30am Barry Kenyan is at the Meesan cafe at the entrance to immigration. Take copy of photo page of passport and original p60 or letter from pension provider proving income equivalent to not less than 65,000bt month, if less need money in thai bank to make up shortfall, and letter will be done ready for collection next morning.

what is the cost of the letter and is it official, ie does barry work for embassy

Barry is the Honorary Consul. The letter is official and is issued by the UK Foreign Office. The cost is around 2,000 baht.

    begsaresponse

If it is the same price as Chiang Mai consul it will be baht2448 ( The cost is £34 - but they use £1 = 72 baht from last year!)

    Wish it was that!!!

  9. I can't tell you about local prices, but a while back I had a 4metre x 2 sliding gate fitted, cost 11,000 Bt including concrete base and pillars. That was in Phrae and not imported metal. They use solid metal though. I took the lowest quote after inspecting some of the man's previous work. The highest quote I had was 30,000 Bt.

was pleased with the gate but not impressed with the concrete work.

I would definitely shop around as it seems to me that you have been quoted a ridiculously high price

Thanks you all for your advice

I did of course mean a gate of 5mx2m =70000 (not 10x2) My house is not that big!

  10. Can you tell me why you are prepared to pay a premium

for Stainlees or mild steel from out side of Thailand?

I'm sure Thailand has plants providing high quality

    SS and MS. (anyone know)

Sounds a bit of a sales ploy.

Only asking, it's not a criticism.

sorry can't help you with the cost per, m

    Thanks for your reply.

We assumed it would be Thai- we were advised 'quality, quality, quality. ( imported from Italy)

We have a 10 x 2 metre gate requirement so Baht 70000+ seems very high to me.

I will see if anyone on the forum has purchased any and investigate 'Thai prices.

    Thanks

  11. We want to install wrought iron gates on our property.

We have been quoted Bht 7000 ish per square metre ( for imported metal not thai)-cheaper for thai

Anyone purchased them for a comparison?
