jeeez where do you hicks live? no xmas?

This Hicks lives in Thailand, I buy presents for my children and grand children back home, who do believe in Xmas, not some whore, that has no iterest except in lining thier own pockets.

    <deleted>!

  2. Thanks.

We have just completed the rice harvest and looking at the cost of planting and then harvesting, it seems to me that we would be better off buying rice from Tesco or Big C rather than growing it ourselves. Even if we sell some of it, it makes little sense commercially. However this is obvioulsy not my wife's opinion!

Anyway, with retirement (from my job in Bangkok) around the corner and full time living in Issan also around the corner I'm trying to determine if some of the rice land we have could be put to a better more sensible use.

  3. Another question for all of you.

I am not a farmer by any stretch of the imagination. However we have some rice farms just outside of Mukdahan, wet season there is plenty of water and like many places in Issan dry season there is little to no water. What could I do with some of the rice paddies other than planting rice. That is rather than plant rice what else could I grow as alternative?

  4. Hello all

While I have done a number of Google seaches to find Thailand used car Web sites, I've not actually found too many that are all that useful. Talad Rod is OK and seems to be generally up to date. I'm looking at buy a 12 to 18 month old Toyota Fortuner in the next month or so.

So does anyone know a Thailand used car web site better than Talad Rod?

  5. Tim...No it wasnt....The closest thing to an Aussie bird here is the Crow....sounds the same but a bit different in colours.

Ask any Kookaburra, and the answer will be "Too bloody hot mate".....biggrin.png

Years ago I was looking at a car in Thailand and asked if it came with a sunroof option and the salesman looking at my skin colour laughed and said, 'Too hot in Thailand for a sunroof'. Strange I thought because the weather in Oz can be a lot hotter than Thailand, depending on what corner of the great land ur standing on.

Kookaburras are Devine creatures.......I'd hate to see one in LOS, It would probably end up in a cage sad.png

More likely on a dinner plate rather than in a cage facepalm.gif

  6. Thanks MeMock, I don't it has but with a the ups and downs in the immigration area over the last few months you never know.

As I mentioned, just a short trip he does not have a lot of time and wants to have a quick look around.

Not a lot to do over there I know, not in a day trip'

  7. Hello

I have a friend coming over to Thailand and I intend to take him up to my house in Mukdahan for a short break.

He also wants to do a quick visit over to Loa while we are there. I have been across myself once or twice before but some time ago.

Can anyone tell me what the cost of visa for Loa is these days, it will only be a day trip across and back the same day.

    Thanks in advance, Craighj

  8. Craig what fishing park are you talking about?

Narin fishing park, easy to just do a quick Google seach.

Although I do seem to remember that the lst one I went too was past the golf coarse, sorry my brother in-law took me there not sure if it is the same one.

  9. All true, almost.

Anyway, given the recent development in the area one nevers knows.

It would be great to fly direct to Mukdahan, rather than a turbo prop to NP and then road or Ubon and then road.

I never thought I would see a Big C, Makro or Robinsons in Mukdahan either, but...................................

  10. Hello all

I was in Mukdahan last week, for the week.

During my visits to family and friends I was told on a couple of occasions that an airport will be built within the next two years.

While I've seen significant investment in the town over the last few years I'm wondering if a project like this could be possible?

Anyone heard anything about an airport for Mukdahan?

  11. The last time I was at the fishing park (last year) in Mukdahan they had some reasonable rods and reels for sale in their little shop. The fishing gear I've seen in the Indochin market is pretty low end, more for yound children. Assuming you are after fishing gear for yourself?

  12. Many years ago when I was young and naive I was involved in a similar situation in my home country.

I took what I thought was the moral high ground and told the guy involved what I had seen.

Needless to say it ended badly, mainly for me. The guy did not believe me (did not want to believe me) and the girl put such a spin on events that I end up being the bad guy!

This is Thailand, those who have lived here long enough generally know most of the do's and don'ts.

While on the surface most would like to see the OP tell the guy concerned, it is much more than likely that it will end badly for the OP rather than the girl involved.

  13. Hello

I've seen some posts about the best Dim Sum or Yum Cha in Bangkok, most of the replies relate to 5 star hotels.

Does anyone know where to get good Dim sum or Yum cha in Chinatown.

I've been to a few good Chinese places there and I've not found anyone specialising in this.

  14. Thanks FalangBaa

I actually live and work in Thailand, Bangkok. Have done for a number of years.

Certainly understand what you are saying, although not everywhere on the Chao Phraya has the same issues.

My idea is to have a local Thai experience for some family members rather than a traditional tourist one on an island.

I was hoping that one of the TV members may have found a jewel along the river somewhere.

Anyway, I'll keep looking and see what I can find.

  15. Hello all

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I have a question, hopefully you may be able to answer for me.

I'm looking for a decent hotel or resort on the Chao Phraya river.

I have some family coming over in February and I want to give them a few days over looking the Chao Phraya, something different rather than go to a beack resort.

I have been to a few hotels on the river in Bangkok, all quite nice but I'm looking for something a little more local. Maybe close to Ayutthaya, a little bit more Thai.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks

  16. Hello all

A couple of years ago I built a house just outside (south side) of Mukdahan city.

At the time I had furniture guy build some built in cabinets and cardboards for me.

Since then we have added another room (office, bar) and we need some shelving and few cabinets built and fitted around the inside walls.

Does anyone know of someone around the local area who does this sort of thing?

Also, what about a reliable plumber and or electrician type? I used to use my brother in-law, however this is not sustainable or the quality of work is poor.
