  1. As a third party may I point out that the figures in the report are meaningless. Forget about the race of the riders/drivers because the important thing is to get drunk drivers off of the roads. The important information is the number of tests carried out and the number of those who failed, it wouldn't surprise me if the minute number quoted was the correct number. So few tests. The police on traffic duty have a duty to remove all drivers breaking the traffic laws from the highways. But the RTP do not do that!
  2. Blackboard duster! I assiume that was the felt in a wooden block. In a carpentry practical lesson the master threw a small wooden block plane at the head of a student, but missed. I don't agree with violent beatings and before using that technique an escape lane should be offered so that the violent conclusion can be bypassed. Therefore no violence is needed.
  3. Starting April the first - April Fools Day. Think about it!!
  4. Earlier in December I drove frome Muak Lek, Saraburi to Mae Sot in Tak. I was absolutely horrified to find that many prolvices were not following the rules applied to the 120 kmh as I understood them. Which is if a highway had no level U turns the third lane could have a max speed of 120 kmh limit. I joined H1 close to Singburi and found that there soon was a 120 limit and undergroundf U turns, perfect. But further north some provinces only had level U turns but believed that it was OK to use the 120 kmh speed limit and still have level U turns - the exact opposite to my interpretation of the law and increasing the risks of high speed accidents. All of us who have lived here for some time know how well the Thai drivers have been trained and tested in a car, and the authorties in some provinces think that increasing the dangers on the highways will make the driving safer, reduce accidents and save lives! TIT
  5. Surely they are a private enterprise, that is the problem. In the UK the police are overseen by the Home Secretary and uphold the law If you don't believe watch Motorway Police on You Tube you will see actions by the officers that cannot be imagined by Thais.
  6. The highly intelligent Anutin states that: hub for collecting information to prevent and reduce road accidents during the New Year period! A person with average intelligence will be able to understand that it is impossible to collect information, analyse what the major problems are, and act on this information within 6 days. Sorry Anutin you are only 12 months too late!!
  7. I am retired and have been a resident in Thailand for 17 years. In the Uk the last time I was in a hospita before I lived in Thailand I was 9 years old. During the 17 years here in Thailand I have often visited my family in the UK and twice I have been admitted to a National Health Service hospital, have been well treated and not paid any charges for my treatment. The rules then were as a person that was registered with the NHS was allowed free treatment whilst on holiday in the UK, unless it was a medical situation that had been identified before making a trip back to the UK. I think that rule is still used, but if you are interested you should check, maybe info available from the Bangkok Embassy.
  8. Yes, I agree with you I did not look for sloppy reporting, I concentrated on the Official Comments and clarifying what other comments I saw. And also tried to point out the need for blood donations.
  9. How do idiots in Thailand get into such high stations? By bribery and corruption! This statement is so stupid that after 17 years here I am still amazed by the lack of the understanding of the English language. Basically their defence of their con is a lie. Their is no such thing as a service charge in Blood Donation The blood donors are offering their donations, not having a treatment for their health. If you must have a service charge it needs to be paid by the companies that use the blood. I was a donor from 18 until I was in my 50s and had to stop because of tablets I needed for my health. When I was in my 20s I was asked to paticipate in the plasmapheresis programme they had started and were asking all Rhesus Negative donors if they could take part. After we had given our first 100 donations they invited us to attend a reception at Regents Park in london in the evening, the only time I had Champagne and Caviar on the National Health Service. With the blood we donated the laboratories managed to eliminate the cause of babies and somtimes mothers at her second birthing. Much later in life I remembered my mother and my new sister were away from home for several weeks still having nurses looking after them - I was the first child and I'm Rhesus negative, my sister is still alive in the Uk at 76 years of age. I am so pleased that I took place in the experiments. I stopped being a donor when I had made 197 donations. Information on Plasmapheresis can be found Wikipedia.
  10. Long time since I studied this in maths class , but I think that you don't understand the difference between metres and square meters, metres are lengths and sgm is square metres, as written in the text the simplest way would have been to write 9 sqm shaft in area of the shaft. Definitely share metres are not a shape they are an area covered. I could not find any mention of the shaft being square in the article
  11. Law enforcement expeditiously collected evidential material from surveillance cameras, capturing unequivocal images of the accused's conduct. Mr. Gook was apprehended by a contingent of police personnel under the command of Pol. Lt. Col. Pissit Chuenphet, the Superintendent of Thalang Police Station. It would appear that the writer has just received a new English dictionary! Also I believe that a Mental Assessment is more appropriate than thinking of penal punishment. Then he has a chance of acting like a normal person so that he can fit into his local environment without frightening the local ladies.
  12. I have to say that this lady was acting in a thouhtless way, but I understand some of the harsh comments that have been posted. However much to my surprise I have discovered as a single man that more ladies act in this way than I would have imagined. While I was single and over the age of 45 at least five ladies suggested it and it happened, all wanting to share my bed just for sleep! The first was a lady from Singapore, a nurse, she was attractive with lively conversation skills, we liked each other but were not sexually attracted to each other. One evening at my house in the UK she had dropped in and we enjoyed sharing too much wine, she needed to drive about 30 minutes to get home on the M25 Motorway. I offered to let her use a folding bed that I had in my study. But she said that she would share my bed with me as she trusted me! I reluctantly agreed, she was right, nothing happened except sleep. Since I have lived in Thailed and had kicked my Thai wife out it has happenet with at least 4 Thai women, all nice people but no romantic flame burning at all between us. I have written this post to support all others who have posted saying that men do not have to rape any females that fhey bump into.
  13. I would suggest that they specify non-fragile concrete in the future.
  14. I know that Asean Now cannot change the Headline on an article. But it is sad to see that journalists in Thailand are unable to write simple English. "Fatal" and "Claims life" mean the same thing, no need to repeat the fact. A simple way to rectify this would be to leave out the first word " fatal", and you get a simple but accurate headline.
  15. This reports that the Police are doing what they are paid to do, it should not be news! But most of us expats just realise that it is a con carried out highlighting the fact of how lazy and inefficient they are. Thais deserve a better police service than the one they suffer currently, but it will never get a better police force until it is run by an honest government.
