  1. Does anyone else see a pattern with these kinds of posts : At 5:00 a.m., officials from the Sawang Boriboon rescue center were notified by a local resident about a foreigner in need of assistance.
  2. I have to laugh as I read about a foreigner beating up a cabbie over smoking and as I scroll down a GIANT Ad on crushing out a cigarette and the advice to Quit Smoking There is ample evidence of Russians having a short fuse. This is only one of many incidents. About a month ago , while playing our guitars at the beach, a 35'ish year old rather large and fit Russian man approached us in anger. My friend had a Blue & Yellow strip of tape on his guitar , like the Ukrainian flag colours The Russian jabbed my 75 year old friend in the face with his finger and told him to remove the strips. I yelled at him to get back to his family on the beach, and he left in anger. I have many similar stories of unsociable behavior by the denizen of that country. If it is fighting you want ... go home and put on an army uniform ! .... end of rant
  3. ******************************** Quake - you clearly are a "newbie" to Jomtien. 20+ years ago Jomtien was a quiet beach south of "Disneyland for Grownups" . That is why I chose to buy a house with my wife and live here all this time and NOT there. Unfortunately , ... well , just reread my post about the CHANGES over 20+ years and understand that it is not "old people" being affected. It is EVERYONE with EARS. Your youthful arrogance is understandable. Sorry to read your short-sighted interpretation of the facts. Regardless of who is shooting off fireworks (locals or short term tourists ) , my point was ... WHERE ARE THE POLICE to control the NOISE at 2 a.m. ? ********************************************************************************
  4. Member 252 I always laugh when I see expats move to Thailand then complain that it isn't like their home country. There are planes leaving everyday, don't like it here? Get on one. ********************************************* Dear Member 252 (Nice name !) How long have you lived here ? I married a lovely Thai lady 21 years ago and we have lived in this house 500 m from Jomtien beach all of those 21 years. This recent trend of letting off fireworks EVERY night is a NEW phenomenon. Don't tell me to get on a plane. This is my home. I have integrated myself totally into the country. And sadly it has devolved into a nightly war zone. with explosives going off into the wee hours. The authorities are doing nothing to control it. Possibly you can step in with your outstanding charm and wit and convince the the fire-cracker-heads to cease and desist , except for the usual major holidays. Keep your sarcasm to yourself. I've supported a large Thai family all these years and helped raise the standard of living of many relatives. What have you done besides sit at your keyboard and pound out pompous remarks. How about helping to make this land a better place ? Or is that asking too much of you ? ********************************************************************
  5. I have been using this barbershop since they opened. Always good service. Russians all seem to have a short fuse. Recently, while playing our guitars with friends in the morning at Jomtien beach, a young muscular Russian took offence to the Ukrainian colours that my friend had on his guitar . The Russian started poking my friend on the shoulder and then on his face. I used my "teacher voice" and told him to go back to his young family at the beach and leave us alone. Totally uncalled for behavior ! I had to wonder why he was in Thailand and not back home fighting with his fellow countrymen , instead of bullying some old men at the beach. He later apologized - too little too late.
  6. Every single night of the week, night after night, fireworks are sold and set off at all hours of the night. The constant barrage of explosive noises goes on into the wee hours, well past midnight, EVERY night for the pleasure of a few visitors. Meanwhile thousands of resident have their healthy sleep disrupted by the barrage. Where are the law enforcement agents and officers of the peace who should be putting a stop to this? We have read about the carnage and death toll in recent fires at Fireworks Factories. But that does not stop the craving of a small few visitors to make noise while on holiday, and in total disregard for the wellbeing of your fellow citizens. Everyone tolerates the festivities and pyrotechnics on special occasions. But a 2 week vacation is not a special occasion for which we all must agree to celebrate with explosive ballistics. Can we please bring peace, and law & order back to Jomtien Beach. Policemen – please , do your job of keeping the peace. End the War on nightly noise now.
  7. My sympathies to the families of those who died in the explosion. Fireworks are shot off at all hours of the night EVERY night on Jomtien Beach , even though it is NOT any special day on the calendar. A couple of tourists get their jollies and manage to create the effect of a WAR ZONE with bombs waking up thousands of nearby resident, into the wee hours of the night EVERY night. It is totally unnecessary to set off explosive noise makers late at night in order for a small few to have fun on their holidays at the expense of the sleep and sanity of thousands of nearby denizen. POLICE - please effect some law and order , and bring a halt to this insanity. Fast Forward *5 minutes* & * 12 minutes* to see & hear what I'm talking about -- this is going on EVERY night, not just New Years Eve *****************************************************
  8. Isn't anyone going to tell us how that compares to last year or any other year ? Is it an improvement ... as in fewer accidents and deaths?
  9. What is with the "Convict At Large" Headline ? He is in the country and under lockdown . Short memories ..... okay he lined his pockets --- like every other politician in this country. He did a lot of good for the majority of Thai citizens who do not live in the beloved and powerful Capital of Thailand BANGKOK Don't think for one moment that Prayut will leave office with an empty bank account. Please don't be that naïve.
  10. When is this News Outlet going to admit that TOURISM is only 12-15% of the GDP ? Can we PLEASE get some news about the general state of the economy and the other 85% of the GDP or is that asking too much ? For many of your readers, we are full time residents. We don't need heavy rotation of "tourist" stories ! There - I vented and feel slightly better until the next "tourist in trouble" story pops up
  11. Can someone please explain to me ..... WHY do all handcuffed criminals have some covering over their handcuffs ? Are we all that stupid that we assume they have cold hands and need mittens ?
  12. I don't know if this was the case in this instance, but how often do we see bicycle riders riding 2 and 3 abreast, chatting as they ride along at 20-30 km/h. And oblivious to frustrated traffic jamming up behind them ? Many comments above (tinted windows, lack of warning lighting , etc) point out the increased hazards of riding a bicycle in Thailand. Stick to daylight hours. Even on a motorbike (PCX) I have been intentionally forced to the curb several times by angry and anxious drivers in cars who take out the frustration on anyone smaller than them. 20 years of living here and I still am not used to how a calm Thai who wai's me one minute , then gets behind the wheel and turns from Jekyll to Hyde My sympathies to the families of the deceased riders
  13. I see what they are trying to do here ........ (Andre The Giant)
  14. I recall seeing this sign in bars in Pattaya 25 years ago ... so the problem (although not exactly the same) persists !
