  1. Based on the traffic, I'm convinced everyone in Bangkok was in Chiang Mai for new years, so it makes sense that city had the highest numbers. All you could see were Bangkok plates. Chaos. Glad it is over.

Almost all cars on a "finance scheme" carry BKK plates because the credit- issueing bank (who keeps the original car papers and is the de facto- owner of that car) has its H.Q. in BKK...

btw: we should also note that the country in 2014 was flooded with another close to 1mill cars under the "first car first owner" scheme of the government - most of them can still be seen on the streets (a big portion, however, was recalled quickly by the banks because drivers could not pay back the loans ...)

  2. Certainly doesn't assist those at the bottom of the societal pile who find their finances squeezed once again

oh yes it will - benefit their state of health! It is a world-wide phenomenon that obesity based on 3rd class quality food and drinks which are amber- liquid (coz of the sugars in them) comes with the bottom of society - look at all those tons of excessive weight walking about e.g. in Mexican slums or any lowly area of the U.S. ... or the U.K. ... or BKK for that...

  3. I can understand the rice thefts when the 'Rice Scheme' was in operation but not now

even more understandable these days with the price down to < thb 10; in order to make a decent cut same as last year / 2 yrs ago you need to substantially increase the quantity of your crop - that's about all...by the way, Buriram is very close to Cambodia so we venture to guess that no Thai thoroughbred pinched all these piles, must be the notorious foreign gangs from yonder the border - how about they get DNAed just for sure?

  4. "notifications can be made online"................just as long as you can read and write Thai that is.

you "not being able to read or write Thai" - farang do not have to do anything about this notification; your hotel, hostel, private host, girlfriend or your brothel or beer bar ... whereever you spend most of your time ... - has to take care of this

  5. <we can only arrest one Nigerian man Oshi-Oma Declan, 30, and his wife Songsee Khamsee, 31, for the 20 grams of cocaine. They are also dealers, but we are still looking for another Nigerian man who personally dealt with Mr Jeremy>

oh, those <removed>...when coming to Thailand they make immigration believe they are just sports students -- their playground being Lower Suk and similarly well-visited venues

  6. AGREE - The airport train has been a disaster waiting to happen from the beginning

AGREE - Everyone behind the project should be held accountable for these failures

AGREE - Before we embark on a high-speed train project or any other large-scale infrastructure construction, let's scrutinise the mistakes made in previous projects

One example of the cost of corruption and cronyism. Accountability is definitely on the right track.

and again - which particular group gets mad about all this? foreigners, visitors and expats alike. But the real Thai amongst all of us sits smug and cozy in just another big bag of money and that was the only reason for all this ap link exercise. Why the foreigners will never understand that mega- projects like this are never started in order to do something real worth- while about infrastructure and all that crap: They are initiated just for one single reason, gentlemen (and ladies...)!
