    Hi,

Thank you all again for your replies it's very useful and i've kind of changed my mind about buying luxuary condo and might buy a cheaper one like you mention.

One last question: do you guys think that the luxuary condo market is getting saturated in BKK? what i mean is that a lot of modern condos have been built (with pool, gym etc) and rooms are rented out to expats but is there not too much already (the number of expats is not going up as quickly it seems?), which makes me think buying to rent to Thais might be a better option...

    Thank you

Hi, you mentioned in the first post, you were looking for a 2-3MB condo, and now that you might rent to Thais. You also mentioned it being served by future BTS extensions. Well, are you familiar with Srinakarin road which has the large mall Seacon Square? The shopping center next door used to be called 'Seri Center' and is currently being redeveloped and will be opened later this year as 'Paradise Park'. There are fairly new condo units opposite called 'Ninth Avenue' or somthing, where a 2Bed unit is 3-3.5MB.

Also, if you go further south on the same road, you enter Samut Prakarn and in the Suvarnabhumi area, just past the Srinakarin - Teparak intersection there is a large, newly developed Tesco 'Plus' which has a whole range of other shops inside like Boots, Starbucks, Cineama, restaurants etc. There is a block of new condos there selling for 40-42k/square meter, so the largest, a 2bed 1 bathroom sells for 2MB see it at www.condoseasons.com . Granted, it's not Bangkok, but hotels just round the corner such as 'The Colour Living' http://www.thecolorlivinghotel.com/ do quite a good trade on the basis of their proximity with the airport, and the expressway.

The Seasons condos might be a good investment to rent to Thais because although you can see the BTS extension already partially built towards the 'Sam Rong' area, there are future plans I didn't know of to build BTS down Theperak road and then Srinakarin road. God knows when this will happen, but still, see the map on the website.

EDIT: I just remembered to add that the Colour Living is also selling condos behind the main hotel, don't know the price, but sub 3MB for sure. So that's three condos I can think of which will benefit from future BTS expansion on Srinakarin road.

  3. Hi,

The title says it all, I wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendation as to good areas to buy a buy-to-let condo in bkk? I'm thinking areas that are easy to rent and/or areas that will be served by future extentions of skytrains etc. We already have a condo we are about to rent in Thonglor, but I was interested in getting other people's views. We are thinking of a condo in the 2M to 3M Bth price range

    Any thoughts welcome

Thank you for your help :)

  4. Hi,

The best place for streaming sport is www.myp2p.eu

they have lots of information. You have to download a few softwares, best ones are veetle, sopcast and tvants. If you then check the schedule page on match day you will get links. Take the link with the highest bitrate and you will be amazed. if you have good internet that is. I get 20mb speed (i obviously dont live in thailand.. :) ) and it's as clear as tv.. was watching chelsea game last night.

You can stream supersport but i prefer channels like fox soccer channel.. picture is clearer..

    cheers

  5. For just 2000baht each you can set up a dish for each yourself with just a few basic tools. 400 a year gives each dish some movie channels and music stations. Otherwise its free, my wife has something like 85 channels free, system cost was 1950.

A system from a single dish that lets them watch what they want in each room would maybe cost more. But if it were 20 plus rooms it might add up differently.

Thank you for fast reply. Do you know any suppliers for the system you mention? the location is near Chachoengsao.

    Best Wishes

  6. Hi There,

My wife & I have some place we rent, it's made of several rooms (a bit like bungalows) that are rented to Thai people.

Some people have been leaving because they want cable TV etc (there is no tv reception at present). So we're wanting to put up a satellite dish so that every room can have TV. I dont think we need to get them True etc, just basic Free to Air channels.

Ideally we would want to buy a fixed dish satellite system and just run a cable to every room but i wanted to know:

    a) what are the options ?

:) do we need a set up box in every room?

    c) how much is it likely to cost?

Thank you in advance for your help

  7. Hi,

My wife uses dootv too and it's no problem at all. Quality is excellent, just like TV.

It looks like your internet speed is the problem. We have 20MB connection with 1mb upload: www.bethere.co.uk

they charge same price as BT... but speed is really fast so no probs. In fact i watch all the footy online too...

  8. Hi,

I had same problem some time ago. I live in london and the reason was that one of my neighbours had started using the same 'wireless channel' as i was (and from the same supplier) so the 2 modem were conflicting with each other.

When you reinstalled your modem it might have gone for a radio channel that is conflicting with another wireless modem in range.

Best thing would be to ring your provider or change it yourself if they cant help:

    - access the modem setting thru http://192.168.2.1 (it's usually an address like this to access the modem)

    - then try to find the transmission channel and change it...

if you live in the stick and there is no neighbours in sight then obviously no need to bother!

    good luck

    :)

  9. Hi,

I use spyhunter, bitdefender and spybot and that seems to work great.

I dont know if it's sanook alone but our pc got infected with some virus 2 months ago and i had to re-install everything...! so i went to the extreme and installed all 3.

Spybot is free so i'd use it (pretty good actually) and i'd use either bitdefender or spyhunter... they are both quite good. I can give you details of where to get them from if that's useful?

    cheers

  10. :)

    Hi,

Same thing happens to me. Many thai websites have viruses and malware etc. My wife goes to a website called 'sanook' a lot and there are lots of malware on that site (they even try to change your homepage etc). the content of that site looks good though.

If that's useful, you can download for free 'spybot search and destroy', you can find it on google. it's free and has real time protection

    best wishes

  11. Hi There,

I'm in the same boat.. we live in london with my wife who is thai. We both work here and are currently trying to get a mortgage in thailand for a condo we bought but it's a bit difficult to find information.

we have found this bank who say on their website they now do loan for thai people who live abroad:

    http://www.ghbank.co.th

(check out the section on the right handside of the website).

my wife called yesterday and ... the person she spoke to told her she was not sure about offering mortgages to thai nationals who live abroad!! so when we have time we want to ring them back (not easy with time difference!). I think she just did not get through the right person.

if you do get some luck with finding the right person we need to talk to, could you please share the contact details with us?

Many thanks and good luck :)

  12. many people have spare minutes from their mobile phone allowance/price plan. So the 1p calc you mention does not really apply: it's spare minutes they would not use anyway....

my wife get's 1200 minutes, the reason being she got that price plan is she wanted a nice handset and big allowance to not have to worry, so she's got minutes to spare, so she can use these minutes to call abroad with voipdiscount...

most people have minutes to spare from their allowance... not unusual

  13. :)

as others say voipdiscount is great.

I would add that if you have a mobile phone with a lot of allowance (landline), you can use one of voipdiscounts access numbers in manchester (starting 0161, it's a landline number) and therefore phone to thailand for next to nothing from your mobile (depends how long you talk)....

  14. Hi,

congratulations on your house it looks really impressive and i think it would be hard to get a better deal! looks good quality building work overall. I was therefore wondering if you could share the details of the builder? u can PM me if you prefer.

    Thank you + best wishes

  15. Hi,

I live in london too and with my wife we were thinking of moving to CM in a few years but i've done some research and won't be moving there! there is a real problem with pollution levels (PM10) which is way to high (it's quite scary). If you do your own research you will see what i mean!

There is quite a high cancer rate as a result also, check it out on google.

    best wishes

  16. :)

    Hi All,

If you have a decent internet connection you can watch all the footy online, here is the best site for that:

    www.myp2p.eu

It's totally legal by the way (the site got taken to court and they won!)

it's free, all you have to do is read the tutorial page, install the softwares (best ones are sopcast, tv ants and veetle) and get the links on the schedule pages on match day... that's it. They have every footy match in the world and the picture quality is getting better and better... try 'yes' channel.. they have english commentary and show premierleague, champions league..etc

    cheers
