  1. if you need a place to stay overnight in chumpon, then turn into the town off the main highway and the hotel is the tallest building on the left as you get near the town, you cant miss it. its 600b/night with free food. rooms ok. views good from a high floor.

    Sound advice from Taxexile.

I can never remember the name of that hotel, 'The Grand Chumphon Palace Hotel" or something? Always have Ferraris, Porches and Minis parked out front? I nearly missed it the first time cos it looked like an office tower and only saw their sign in Thai on the main road. I was there in June and it was only 450 baht.

  2. As you know, everyone likes to smell their own brand of fart. But my wife, will actually come out with a bottom burp so bad that even she runs away from the stench. So, yes Thais do fart. But in fifteen years of living in Thailand, I don't recall hearing a Thai whistle a tune or to call someone. Strange. :o

  3. Your wife should tell him to F.O. as she is not driving, and does not need a licence.

That's right. Giving in too easily to ridiculous offences just makes the police stand their ground more, the next time they pull the same stunt on the next farang that tries to object. :o

Ummm ... she was Thai Gazz.

I realise she was Thai, but she was with a farang. As the OP said, as soon as the officer saw him he went and spoke with his wife. Would she have had this problem if she was with a Thai driver? I don't know.

And anyway, probably her money originated from her husband so maybe it's wrong for him to laugh. :D:D

Also, it's good in a way to know about these new methods of money extraction because it can prepare one for getting out of forking over money(hopefully). :D

  4. I agree, don't tell anyone! Just make sure somehow that she will actually be home when you arrive. No good arriving if she's gone on a trip upcountry or something.

I told my wife once that I wanted to buy a bicycle for my step-daughter and wondered what colour she would like. I told her that I wanted it to be a surprise and to try and find out what colour she prefers, blue or red.

Within seconds she said to her daughter. "Tomorrow Daddie's buying you a bicycle. What colour do you want, red or blue?". :o

  6. It probably is a fair amount for the damages. Also taking into account the loss of rental income while the bike is 'out of business'.

Ask your friend again to search for the guy telling her that you'll give her x amount of money when you return if she's sucessful. Best of luck.

Come to think of it, did you give him a photocopy of your passport when hiring the bike?

  7. par with the events of 7/11

Ah yes, that memorable day when they were totally out of stock of crispy crisps!

Fortunately, the Family Mart next door saved everyone from starvation. :o

It was all a conspiracy. They had plenty of crisps out in the back. They were just trying to get everyone on the bandwagon to buy the more expensive Pringles! :D

  8. Quote: "I contacted the thai girl i am friendly with and she told me not to worry about it....i tried to get her to find 'man for moto'but she said she couldnt...."

She probably only went as far as looking out of her bedroom window. Like she says don't worry about it.

WHO exactly assessed the damage cost and what damages were there to the bike?

Are you sure that's how it's spelled? I thought there was an extra 'al' somewhere in the middle. :o

  10. so you don't think if i change my name it will work. at the moment my fiance is trying to 'make a deal' with a family friend who is a thai immigration officer. try to pay him to remove the blacklist as the officer who i spoke to before leaving suggested this to me as many people do it.

im a bit nervous of this just because i dont trust the imigration and worried they might take the money and not take my name off the list? what do you think?

I paid a '500 baht donation' to someone to have my stolen passports info erased from their database. Explaining things nicely to a female officer did no good whatsover, even when her superior told her to remove it. :o

  11. Anybody recall that THAI 737 that mysteriously self-destructed on the tarmac at Don Muang shortly after Mr. Big became Prime Minister and a mere hour or so prior to Thaksin and son boarding said plane to go to Chiang Mai? Maybe this purchase is a (somewhat delayed) reaction to that incident and the consensus is that the PM should not fly commercial whenever possible?

By the way - Was there ever a plausible explanation offered for what happened to that 737?

Last thing I recall reading was that an air-con unit blowing up was the culprit. Apparently, some chemical traces in the wreckage were discovered and analysed by the FAA that can be found both in explosives as well as air-con units. :o

Not sure what the final verdict was.

  12. when i was at the airport on saturday they had the same old computers were they type everything in off your arrival card...

They simply matched your personal data to what they have in their database. ie name, DOD, birth place, etc. I've had two passports reported stolen over the years and always used to get pulled into the office when dep. or arriving the airport. I wasn't blacklisted in the sense that I couldn't enter Thailand but they had enough info about me and my passports, that they had to check me out to make sure I was indeed the owner of the passport.

  13. Maybe the chambermaid figured that your son wouldn't miss or notice the ring missing. Perhaps when asked about the ring she crapped herself and owned up to having taken it as she would've been the biggest suspect. By owning up she only loses her job. If she didn't own up maybe she thought that the police would get called in and would eventually get her to confess. In which case, she would probably serve a minimum(?) of seven years in jail. Being a chambermaid her education isn't going to be too hot and Thais do seem to be very lousy when committing crimes.
