  1. It's 40 years since I read it last. Once alone and shortly after I read it aloud to my GF at the time, who cried at the appropriate part. I looked for a Thai translation to give to my child, who is still learning to read Thai, but I don't think it was ever translated. Am I wrong? I don't clearly remember the sequel, except I didn't like it much.
  2. A gang of us paid a visit during the World Cup tournament in 2002. Reasoning was: better weather, lower cost, almost the same time zone as the footy & Thai food! I wondered how I could swing living here and why? Went again in 2008 or so and ended up marrying someone I met. By then the GFC was in full swing, which supported my thesis that the East was in the ascendent again and the West was going down. Being near China should help a country. Hopefully not too near. Visited almost every year until we moved here permanently in 2024.
  3. Changes ain't permanent. But change is.
  4. Sure does. Maybe I should have read the article properly in the first place. I do like to see politicians get punished.
  5. Do we know which prison and perhaps which wing he will be sent to? I'm just wondering how cushy his gaol time will be.
  6. But what about the dude in the grey cap?
  7. Up to or down to 74?
  8. - I am perfectly calm. I have no dog in this fight. I haven't read the charges & IANAL but it's interesting to hear this ex-DoJ Pardon Attorney's comments. She does come across to this non-USA person as partisan as hell. In the YT short I linked to, the lawyer tasked by Trump who was mentioned reminds me of how they had to scrape the bottom of the barrel (the butt of the butt?) to find someone in the USA administration who would go after Julian Assange.
  9. The Comey indictment Former Pardon Attorney for the DoJ. She states the charges brought against Comey are "low level & weak".
  10. This is the current plan for Gaza. https://filefa.st/k0BDL/gaza-the-great-trust.pdf
  11. Next stop Vinh? https://zoom.earth/storms/bualoi-2025/#overlays=wind
  12. Next stop Taiwan? https://zoom.earth/storms/ragasa-2025/#overlays=wind
  13. Was the "yes I do" in answer to "Do you think Thaksin is/ was corrupt and so unfit to hold office?" or to the second question? Do you think Thaksin is/ was corrupt and so unfit to hold office?
  14. My wife did this two days ago. On her statements, the address is in English and the name in Thai. When I c&p'd the name into Google translate it came out with the English spelling. Perhaps that's why Wise approved the document in a matter of minutes. For SCB this is also possible in the app.
  15. "Use the Source, Luke!" https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/53059-yougov-mrp-shows-a-reform-uk-government-a-near-certainty-if-an-election-were-held-tomorrow 13000 people (that's an average of 0.028 % of the electorate or 20 people per constituency), were asked. For me, "mega" implies "million". Deca Kilo Poll is more accurate. https://yougov.co.uk/about/panel-methodology#how-does-yougov-ask-about-voting-intention https://yougov.co.uk/about/panel-methodology#how-accurate-are-your-results I admit I'm surprised that a poll of only 13000 people would lead to the post-election "Heat Map" they published. It would be interesting to check all such polls between a pair of GEs and track their individual accuracy. My bet is over time people's responses would tend toward a less extreme result.
  16. Do you think Thaksin is/ was corrupt and so unfit to hold office? If you do think so, do you think the good deeds mentioned above by you excuse his "improper" behaviour?
  17. The Thai version of draining the swamp? If so, this is certainly a case of poacher turned gamekeeper (although the poacher was Lord of the Manor at the same time).
  18. The only Romanians I knew were good at English. I didn't ask about their Russian linguistic skills, but I got the impression they weren't too fond of Russia. You wait for years then three Ukrainian male models stroll along Ukerainian. At least Eastern European?
  19. It won't only harm "white folks". It's a bit like banning guns and carry of blades outside with a length longer than x cm or so-called AML regulations. The end result is the only civilians armed are criminals and money laundering takes place in hard cash that can't be linked to a bank account. Back to ID cards. As usual, we can deduce that as they are politicians and therefore (in the median measure) incompetent liars, the reasons given for why it's a good idea are false. I remember Tory Bliar's lot giving something like three different reasons why a digital ID was a good thing,
  20. I thought they were Ukrainian, but it's a minor niggle.
  21. How to become invisible (Burt) How to become invisible to the eye (Drax)
  22. With a corresponding increase in originality. If AN was deduped, how much would be left?
