  1. That's the one. A real life-saver....

    Thank you!

While I have you here... it's very hard to find Humalog (or Novolog) in Phuket. Not sure why, but the usual pharmacies in Phuket don't stock either. I can get Humalog at BKK Phuket Hospital, but it's expensive and requires a prescription.

Any idea where to find Humalog (or Novolog) in BKK, for delivery to Phuket? (A related question: Lantus and metformin are available many places for long-term glucose control. But without Humalo or Novolog, how do Thai diabetics use short-term insulin?)

    Appreciate it!

Since most private testing labs are closed on weekends my only option was to get test on Friday and pay for the super expedited results.  At least for 300 I got to cut the nasal swab queue and my samples were walked through the lab as well.  I also get a real fancy result certificate  555.

I would be flying in to LAX (from Nashville), then connecting to the repatriation flight.

Any idea how to get a fast COVID test in Los Angeles?

  3. I hope to return to Thailand in the next few weeks. My wife and son are Thai, and it looks like my application will be accepted. Details in other threads.

My main concern right now is coming up with the required COVID-19 PCR test results within 72 hours of the flight departure.

I expect to depart LAX, SFO, or possibly SEA, late this month or early next month. How did you folks get your COVID-19 test results so quickly?

  4. Where can I find the definitive list of flights? I see the list at thaiembdc.org, but there's an official list (in Thai) from the government. Anybody know where to find it?

Because of the delay in visa application processing in the States, it looks like I need to travel in early October - but, as noted above, there's no list of available October flights.

  5. I have 3BB FTH 30/10 and CAT ADSL 16/2, running side-by-side in Kathu.

Overall, the 3BB line is faster inside Thailand, but the CAT line is faster outside of Thailand. (See the CRISP site for measured speeds.) I'm quite pleased with the CAT ADSL, which is B 1,200/month, and moderately pleased with 3BB fiber, which is a bit more expensive (forgotten exactly how much).

Both of them drop out from time to time, but so far (knock on wood) it's unusual that both go out at the same time.

  6. Suphachai said the cost of offering 3G-850MHz service under the partnership with CAT, and that of providing the 2.1GHz service under the NBTC's licence are not much different.

Oops. I bet he regrets revealing that detail in public. wink.png

If that's the case - and I'm very skeptical - why did AIS, DTAC and True bid so much for the 2.1 GHz spectrum?

Perhaps he's planning on depreciating the new equipment very quickly?

  7. Sorry, I just saw this post.

I'm a diabetic, been injecting insulin for almost 20 years. I have problems with peripheral nerve damage. I started taking Biotaplex (Thai manufactured) about six months ago - bought it at Fascino - and I think it's helping, although it's very, very hard to tell for sure: peripheral nerve damage/diabetic neuropathy is hard to measure.

Benfotamine has been approved for long-term use in Germany for many years, but not in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benfotiamine

There's some evidence that it doesn't do anything, c.f., http://www.news-medical.net/news/2008/06/15/39210.aspx

But the US National Institutes of Health has an abstract about a study done in India (published in 2010) that indicates Benfotamine may be useful specifically in reducing peripheral nerve damage and preventing diabetic retinopathy http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20188835

    Bottom line: I use it.

  8. We have had the exact same problem. Great speeds and reliability till a few weeks ago and now <deleted>. Tech comes out, says everything is good, leaves and problem continues. Often no connection at all. I have given up and am having to use my AIS aircard at work most of the time now.

Ouch. We have True DOCSIS 10 Mbps lines at both of the Sandwich Shoppes, and they're working fine - Patong and Chalong. It's possible that the DOCSIS 20 Mbps service is going up and down, but much more likely that both of you are having local line problems. Don't be bashful about complaining to True, and switching companies. For best results, keep posting your speeds on phuketinternetspeed.com - the service providers all know about the site. You'll simultaneously be documenting your problems for the service providers, and warning other customers in Phuket about problems....

  9. you might want to consider the Accucheck Multiclix. Once you've got the knack it's virtually pain free - and don't believe anyone who says you need to use a new lancet every time you test. As long as you're the only one that's using it a single lancet will last for months! Even if you're not going to use the meter it's woth buying an Accuchek meter to got hold of a Multiclix lancer.

Agree on all counts. I've been taking insulin for almost 20 years, and the Multiclix is by far the best pen I've ever used.

  10. The single edit was to update the VLAN to 925 [Network Tab] on the router.

If that was to accommodate activities undertaken upstream I can't comment.

PPS In the future I'd like to add a WiFi point to this to accommodate a couple of PCs, any kit suggestions/comments?

I'll bet someone else was installed with that VLAN number, and TOT didn't realize it was stomping on your circuit.

For WiFi... I've been using Wireless Access Points in Thailand for many, many years, and I've had trouble with all of them. Except one. Don't shoot me, but the Apple Airport works wonders. Cost three times as much as it should, but it's built like a proverbial brick house, and it's been working without a hiccup for the past year.

  11. I had trouble with it earlier but this link is the one Woody uses for his speed test reporting site so 1,000s of tests from Phuket to this site.

I had a lot of problems comparing speed testing sites for my latest Windows Secrets Newsletter article,

    http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/150840-How-to-measure-your-true-Internet-speed

If anybody here has suggestions - alternate sites, an explanation for what's happening - I'm all ears!

  12. I'm not an expert.

With that as a given, I've discovered that there's no such thing as an "American" marriage certificate. I found, while researching my wife's eligibility for US Social Security, that the Social Security office recognizes duly filed Thai marriage certificates.

In the US, marriage laws vary from state to state, and states issue marriage certificates. The US government isn't involved.

  13. I sure hope this is a typo:

The concessions awarded by CAT to 1,800MHz cellular operators TrueMove and Digital Phone Co will expire in September next year.

That ought to be 800 MHz, I think.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong in leaving the 800/850 MHz allocations the way they are -- if the NBTC would just get the blasted 2.1 GHz going, competitors can duke it out at the higher frequency. Open up enough spectrum, and there's no need to take away the existing allocations. It'd give CAT and TOT a leg up on the competition, but they'd have to fight to survive - which is as it should be.

  14. Outlook.com has a lot to recommend it, but tying into Office Outlook isn't in the cards. The most you can get from Office Outlook is a text (CSV) file of your contacts, which can be imported into Outlook.com. In all other respects, as best I can tell, there's no connection between them.
