  1. You short essay has captured what some of us westerners struggle to explain to our friends back home in the west. I could not agree with you more. Thai women, my wife at the top of the list of course, are collectively the finest women on the planet.
  2. Thailand has been Amazing for me. I arrived here on holiday in September 2005 and made this my hub for my nomadic US Government construction management career. I love the Buddhist temples, food, great people and now with Thai wife number two I could not ask for more. For me the challenge is going to be my health as I move past 70 this year and enjoy retirement. For me the Thai government is at best OK now with a military government and it is ridiculous to try to plan a stable future here in the land of smiles. I plan to wait for 3 to 5 more years to see if the world of covid eases its global impact and Thailand gets some sanity back. In the meantime will continue to explore our wonderful world provided we do not kill it and my health allows. My American home and family is a great base if and when it becomes necessary to make that choice. My best advice to newbies is to enjoy Thailand while you are here, learn from this very old culture and greet every day with and eagerness to learn and a desire to enjoy life.
  3. As with others on this thread I first visited Thailand some years ago, 2005. I found the culture, the food and the diverse landscapes very pleasant. Unfortunately over the years the overall mood, politics, visa requirements and costs of living here especially the medical to be deteriorating. I have a lovely partner/Thai wife and due to a rare eye disease that she has we must continue to live here for her medical care. Now in retirement for the past 2.5 years we have explored other countries and found Ecuador in South America to be our favorite. A great choice to for retirement and more especially so for Canadian and Americans. My pipe dream is that Thailand will wake-up and adapt a more logical approach to foreigners/retirees.
  4. I believe the current Delta surge in America is an example of how quickly unvaccinated people are contracting the Delta variant. I believe, based on the predominant types of vaccines being applied, we are in for a very rough and dangerous ride.
  5. Inconsiderate and against the current Thai laws. By not wearing a mask this man is imposing his world/desires upon others with out their consent and he was confronted with that vey fact. He is a guest in a country that has a different culture with different laws than in his home country. I would venture say if I was to go to his house he would expect/require me to behave in a manner that is respectful to him, his family, his countries laws and his community. Covid is no game! It can seriously hurt people.
