if you add some crushed garlic and a few drops of sunlight dish washing detergent it will work even better, the sunlight helps to stick the deterrent to the plant.

After some searching i got my uncle to look through some boxes from my grandmother and he came across a letter and many multiples from the sitting back in 1947! Making for a very special vintage collection of Penns work.
on another note i purchased my first dslr a used Olympus e500 results are much better than the Olympus sp350 point and shoot i had stolen a few weeks ago.
Cheers

Hi, fishing around phuket is hit and miss, there are fish to be caught but it takes a combination of skill, timing and patience, the average day trip will be a sightseing trip with the slim chance to catch something. Drop by the fishing club in rawai for more info on where, with who and when to go.
There is fishing forum in the sports section of thaivisa, check it out.
Last time i went with my friends boat that i take care of we caught a few barracudas while trolling close to Buddha island. Trolling we have caught sailfish and Dorado, and snapper, GTs, rainbow runners, cobia etc bottom fishing.
There are sailfish, king mackeral, wahoo, marlin etc just the commecial fisherman get most of them. By far Australia has more to offer.
We should be going out in the next couple weeks if you want to join us let me know, the boat is a 6m center cons. built in Australia, great for the local waters. I Just got some gar fish (ballyhoo) from the local market for trolling and ballooning...

A while ago when the news covered Penns passing i posted a picture of my mom taken by him.
Much to my pleasure I have found more, my uncle had them in storage. Here is a some what crude jpeg of the collection, later I may be able to add some better ones.
As fond of photograpghy and the arts as I am, i am simply financially unable to restrain from selling the original prints. I will keep for myself high quality scans but the originals will be sold by Christies in New York some time later this year. Just thought I would share a little treasure found in the shed.
Note the envelope postmarked October 1947 sent by Penn to my grandfather, It contained four prints and 24 pages of multiples, two of the prints have his signature.

spot on, I came here for those reasons as well..... except i am trying to make a living here by running a restaurant/bar with a few bungalows out the back: never ending staff issues, supply issues, rental/lease issues, not to mention the political unrest that has driven tourism down I wonder how much longer i will stay, working 7 days a week takes it toll when one does not have time to enjoy the tropical Island we live on.
What keeps me here is knowing that in the morning i can enjoy the ocean view out front of my restaurant, once or twice a month i get to use my friends fishing boat parked in front of my place, and yes I love the markets, people, culture, most of my customers are longtime friends, I have been doing this here in Rawai for almost 5 years now and generaly find the locals to be good neighbors as long as one treats them with respect.
I hope that i will be able to continue to be a resident of Phuket, at times i get tired of the greyness of the law and certain dangers of driving etc etc but all in all Phuket still has lots to offer.
I am envious of the expats that live/retired here without having to depend on making income here and the expats who work offshore. My advice to all newbies is don't try to do business here.

I agree, well said Barky except for the last bit, Thailand and phuket still have a lot to offer holiday makers and expats, just watch where you go and when.
