  2. What a bunch of crap. I guess this all makes up my mind for me. I'll buy a new "made in Thailand" Honda Sonic, for cheap, that can be repaired easily anywhere within the countries of Asia and Europe where it is sold under one name or another, and maybe a Thai built CBR 150. Leave my big bike in U.S. and not buy one here. Save money, and still fit between the cars in traffic. I don't need the headache. To the rest of you....Good Luck!

  3. In the West these confiscated bike would end up in a police auction, well they do here in Oz. Any chance of that happening...or have members of the BIB already put their mark on the ones they want for themselves?

We must applaud the BIB for making the footpath (goat track) on the East side of Beach Rd less of a trial...although it may only be briefly!

How thick are you in OZ??? Think you'll find your to the East!!

Does anybody even understand/know what this guy is saying???

Long thread to read, irritated by what seems to be jibberish...

    :o

  4. Just curious (becuase of the phuket province issues still happening) when you buy the ER6 or FZ6 now.. What does page 18 say ?? I posted a image of a page 18 on one of my bikes.. However my scooters dont have anything there.

The situation I am saying about is real and still happening here.. If you have an old bike with no page 18 tax details.. They say it has to have them.. Yet brand new bought from main dealers (BMW) bikes, also dont have them !! So thier argument that it HAS to have them seems to fall flat when faced with this.

Of course all the info coming out of the customs people is conflicted and hinges on 'you pay big money now' !!

Dude- you having second thought about that used CBR you bought? There was probably a good reason it was so cheap... I'd keep it under cover until this all blows over.

I haven't received the new Green Book for my ER-6n but I did snap a pic of the last Green Book for my Ninja 250R-

    GreenBookEdit.jpg

Sorry- don't recall what, if anything, was on page 18...

I'm not at all concerned since I know my bikes are completely legit, but once again this crack down serves to illustrate the risks and pitfalls of buying grey market bikes here in Thailand. Caveat Emptor!

I'm a little confused.... what exactly is the purpose of this BIG green book cover scan????

  5. A band of renegade and rogue riders on a quest for the craziest turns and mountain roads while getting some serious knee-down and balls-out action!

It was on a wild journey north out of Bangkok at rippish speeds that I finally caught up with them and saw first hand the SSR in action!

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The SSR Team!

Just check the SSR Epic ride thread for more info...

  6. Hi all,

I never knew the CBR existed till I saw this thread. Looks interesting, but how about when you're giving someone a ride? Is it comfortable enough to do regularly. I suppose sidesaddle is out of the question?

The CBR is a great bike here in Thailand and pleased that you found this thread. My wife regularly rides pillion on my CBR. If she is wearing jeans she will sit straight up, but if I pick her up from work she is wearing a very slim fit Lanna Syle wrap around skirt so has to sit side saddle. The pillion pad is not large but most Asian women have a small bum so she manages very well and in some ways prefers it to riding pillion on the Honda Wave because she is perched a bit higher and can see over my shoulder. On the Wave she is bouncing around like a demented terrier trying to see under or around my arms. On the CBR she is eye height over the top of my shoulder.

She has sat side saddle for quite long distances but normally on trips will wear jeans (safer and more convenient). I will happily go for 10 hours at a time and only stop for pit stops but with her I go for about an hour and a half then take a break. She is happy and we can get some distance between stops. Most Thais, especially women start to fade out if they don't eat every hour and with a metabolism like a humming bird need to stock up regularly. The other problem for Thai women is that on pillion they can't talk and it has been documented in Medical Journals that forcing a Thai woman to not speak for more than two hours causes them to explode from the build up words. For the first ten minutes after we stop it is a full concentrated blast of pent up sentences until she has relieved the pressure sufficiently to then start eating.

    :o

I was just reading through all the old posts to this thread, and when I busted out laughing from complete silence, I suddenly feared getting hit by my girlfriend if I should have to explain what I was laughing about. CB, please keep your hilarious sarcasm about Thai women to yourself in the future, wink wink.

  7. I think you shouldn't be driving motorcycles if your brain doesn't work properly ..... :o Kudos to the mod for moving it to the right forum.

Riiiiight, because nobody except those surfing in the bikes forum would know where there is a Honda dealer...

...and as opposed to everyone else riding motorcycles in Thailand who have brains that are working properly???

Me and MY malfunctioning brain... ; )

    ??? TiT, haha

  8. If you read the disclaimer and terms of use on the website www.international-license.com advertised on ThaiVisa, you quickly realize that it is a scam and there is nothing legal or binding about the product they offer. My suggestion would be a much cheaper option is available at Khaosan Road "for entertainment purposes only", for less than even the shipping of this product.

  10. Couple of weeks ago i responded to an ad from someone selling puppies on Thaivisa. Got a very long email reply explaining that the pups were in fact in Nigeria and the owner was willing to have them sent to me in Thailand for free if i could give them a good home!

The gall of these people is incredible.

Wasn't the Yorkie ad was it?? Had them telling me they were in China... :o

LOL. Yes it was! Those pups are obviously on some sort of a world tour!

Their stories have gone from far-fetched to preposterous!

You know, the sad thing is that people actually fall for this kind of crap. I would be embarassed even if I was all by myself to do something as incredibly assanine as that.

Only one worse I can think of usually begins with something like:

Kind Sir, PLEASE HELP!!! H.E. DR. Ahkbar Duh Retard - Former President - Bank of WannaBlowME was my husband and put 600 Bahzillion US dollars in an offshore suitcase, please pay the shipping and storage fee after you send us all your personal and bank account information and we will let you keep 90% of it... blah, blah, blah,..

I agree! And if the Thai traffic cops were aware of what a real IDP looks like, they'd bust the holders of this item.

I'm due to get my new annual IDP from AAA Oregon next month, good for only one year and costs $15 now, but legit!

    Sample attached.

    Mac

Thanks for that bit of info, just what I needed to hear, but where is the sample?

  12. Don't expect red plates on a motosai. Never have seen such. All of our white, new plates always came within five weeks.

Again different areas.. Here on phuket theres no riding around without plates so many many red plated scoots for the girls whose overpaying temprary boyfriends keep insisting on buying them :o

Sounds like I just need one of these "new girlfriends" after their temp bf's are gone, not a new bike, much cheaper, haha!

    :D

  14. I have not seen any so-called "embassy letter" certifying the income but from what I have read in this forum no embassy or consulate actually certifies the income.

The consulates of most other countries, I understand, certify the authenticity of the applicant's signature on an affidavit written – or a printed form filled out – by the applicant. I believe that also the Swiss consulate offers the service of certifying the authenticity of your signature on a document, but not the correctness of the content of the document, for a fee with a nice consular stamp.

It would be nice if some people who got such "embassy letter" regarding their foreign-earned income could scan and post the letter with certification they got, obliterating personal and confidential information in the document as necessary.

I certainly got a letter from the British Embassy last year confirming the income from my pension, it said something like I had submitted evidence of my annual pension of £xx,xxx. To do this I had to show them an original letter from my pension company, then they gave me the letter the following day. The letter from the embassy cost me about 2,800 Baht, as I recall, for the life of me I don't know why the Thai authorities will not take the pension statement as proof.

Didn't keep a copy, so I cannot scan it, but will so next month when I repeat the exercise.

At 2800 baht per letter I can figure that this is a pretty good racket. I bet they don't pay the immigration guys more than 200-300 baht of it for requiring you to have the letter though!

  15. I hate to ride a bike in the heat with a plug in it. I rode a plugged-tire Seca 400 across Chihuahua State and back into Texas with a FNU on board, and never bothered to tell her about the safety of it. We camped west of the Continental Divide, swam nearly naked in a cold mountain stream....am I off topic? Well, the boyfriend reminds me that those original IRC tires are good for at least 10K km, so I will be looking for replacements after several more months. Will try to manage my way over the opposite side of the metro area soon.

: What's an FNU? oh, and where can I buy a new CBR 150 around Bkk?

    Thanks,

    John

  16. What is the earliest time you can go to apply for the visa and does it get issued the same day or do you have to go back the following day to collect your passport?

If I turn up in Vientien early morning from Thailand, can I be back out in to Thailand with my new double entry visa the same day?

NO. The process is drop off your passport and application the morning of the first day, retrieve passport the afternoon of the 2nd day.

  17. I have Custody of my 2 Thai children from the Thai Ampur in Nan –

Can I get 1 year Non-Imm O Visa (renewable) - in or near Thailand, without showing financial requirement (400,000 in bank or 40,000/m income)?

I am 54 years old. The children are 12 & 8. They have lived with me since divorce from my Thai 3 years ago.

Now I am on a work permit, which expires in 2 weeks.

I need to sort out another visa.

    Thanks everyone

I hate to see you have kids and a problem. I have the number for a lawyer I was introduced to by officials AT the immigration dept. that "suggested" she could help me with what I wanted to do. She may be able to help you also. It may cost you 10-20k baht in "fees". PM me for more info.

  18. Hey there

I will come to Thailand as normal Tourist (Tourist Visa) with a one way ticket and have bought a ticket over Airasia to leave to Singapore after a month. Will this be valid to get in to Thailand? I booked everything online with electronic tickets.

    Thanks

    Chris

If you have a Tourist Visa which you say you have , you will have no problem.

If you do not have a Visa , your flight on Air Asia must be within 30 days of your arrival. Or you may not be allowed on the flight to Bangkok.

No I don't have a Visa. I fly on the 25th of March. I wanted to book a school for learning Thai for 3 to 6 month. But I want to have a look at the school first before I decide. This makes things more complicated ;-)

As long as you have money and are able to get on the plane coming to Bangkok, you should be fine. I would say that I agree with the first 10 or so posts that came before this one. What that means is you have less than a 10 percent chance of having a problem, and any problem has a 99% chance of being resolved with a little money. So don't get your undies in a bunch over it. If you need help or direction let me know when you get to Bkk, I can help you out with info, housing, beer, girls... :o whatever.

    Good luck.

    John

P.S. I came here without a visa, on an eticket, that had a return 60 days out. When questioned by the airline I told then I would be leaving Thailand by land while there. I also had email between myself and Thai Embassy Washington D.C., who answer promptly, in which I asked them my questions in the form to get the answers I wanted. They said as long as I left Thailand while there to get a new visa stamp, then I could arrive without the required onward travel and then get another visa when coming by land back into Thailand. I have been living in Thailand ever since, leaving only when necessary to get a new visa. To sum it up, as long as you are not a pain in their ass, they let you do whatever seems resonable. Just have a reason. Oh, and just a friendly suggestion, never raise your voice or get pissy with them, it doesn't work here, has the opposite effect you desire. A few hundred baht (less than $10) usually solves most issues in your favor.

    Anybody disagree?

  19. I have experienced that in Southern California , where in one instance I had a Spanish speaking Officer & i don't habla espanol very well , but, I asked directions in Walking St of 2 fpvs the other night in English & neither understood English....isn't the idea of Foreign PVs to be able to converse with us Farang????

Not a criticsm , purely a factual observation

    :o

Not conversant in English nor Thai? sheesh... it's worse than I imagined.

btw, to equate to the Pattaya volunteers, was the Southern California police volunteer a Mexican national?

Haven't you heard? Most of Southern California is Mexican nationals. With or without a green card.

    ,,,

I have a few choice words I'd like to post about.... but I don't really think I even need to say them now, thanks to the governments obvious enforcement of the freedom to speech, everyone already knows what I am thinking.

Realistically, it's more powerful than print. Their actions only cause the opposite effect intended.

I really appreciate a lot more about the U.S. after being here for a while. They pretend at freedom better than anywhere.
