UBON RATCHATHANI, Sept 25 – Extensive flooding in this northeastern province prompted the provincial deputy governor to declare 16 districts disaster zones to speed up urgent relief efforts.

Sutthipan Boonmee declared the 16 districts disaster zone as residents of 165 households were forced to flee their homes to higher ground.

Meanwhile, the State Railway of Thailand resumed normal operations serving the province today after a brief suspension due to the flooding of the tracks.

Ubon Ratchathani stationmaster Pradith Karunrat said on Wednesday that flood-stranded train stations resumed normal operation today after rail tracks in Warin Chamrap district and between Huay Tap Tan station to Samrongtab district in Surin province were inundated for three

    days.

Only a small number of passengers were carried, with the 136 Speed train, Ubon Ratchathani-Bangkok reported to be the first train to leave the station. Officials have remained on alert against possible flooding near the rail tracks.

Meanwhile, water levels in the Mun River near Seree Prachatippatai Bridge in Ubon Ratchathani’s Muang district rose by 32 centimetres, reaching eight metres today, now at the speed of 3,040 cubic metres per second.

Some 165 families of five communities along Mun River in Warin Chamrap district and Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality have so far fled their homes to temporary shelters being set up at the Warin Chamrap Land Office, with the help from over 100 provincial civil servants. Flat boats, large trucks and other necessities were provided to assist the flood-affected local residents. (MCOT online news)

Ahhh thats why I could hear trains today despite the heavy rain at the room I am staying in because my house flooded 2 days ago, lets see how long this is going to last, based on what I am seeing and seeing from pictures not long.

  2. Sunee like everyone else said. Stayed there once coming back from an trip and decided me and the missus needed a night alone before going back home ;) and I was impressed.I prebooked through Agoda and it were around 1500 for a nice big room, when we walked in it turned out they had a special for 1100-1200.

They have their own pool which looked nice and have a childrens pool as well. Its connected to a mall that have a small water park for the kids which have water slides and is worth the money my kids loves the place. The mall also have a cinema and a bowling alley with pool tables and the usual restaurants and food court.

its close to the airport coming out of the airport turn right at the first intersection with traffic lights, then follow the road with the airport on your right after you pass the military enterence to the airport turn right again at the next intersection you pass Tesco and the turn right at the next light and you are there.

We had no issues with service there from checking in to room service and I would stay there again and I am critical, give me a bad experience one and I don't return.

If the mods censor my link just search Sunee grand ubon but heres the link to the hotel: http://suneegrandhotel.com/ they are on Agoda I believe or just call the hotel and ask if they have any promotions going on.

  3. Overall flood situation not worrying: Plodprasob

    By English News

    13800038587054-640x390x2.jpg

BANGKOK, Sept 24 - Thailand's Water and Flood Management Commission chairman reaffirmed that the overall flood situation is not worrying, while the army chief said 30,000 soldiers are on standby to help flood victims.

Water and Flood Management Commission head Plodprasop Suraswadi, concurrently deputy prime minister, said flooding in the eastern provinces will ease soon if there is no more rain during the next three days.

He explained that floodwater in the eastern region came from rainfall on nearby mountains, flowing to downstream areas of Cambodia and Thailand.

In Thailand, there are only three small rivers in the eastern parts, he said, and combined with construction of houses along the riversides, water therefore flowed into low-lying inner cities.

For the lower Northeast, Mr Plodprasop said the flood situation has improved. Water has been released through Mekong River, while in the central region, concerned authorities are now speeding up draining water out of the Chao Phraya Basin. The move will affect residents living outside the flood prevention dykes.

Overall, the situation is unworrying, according to the deputy premier.

Meanwhile, army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said the army has closely monitored the flood situation in 21 provinces and 2,000 army personnel have already been dispatched to flood-hit areas.

Gen Prayuth said he believes this year's flooding will not be as severe as that of 2011.

However, he said 30,000 soldiers in 150 'disaster relief companies' are prepared to immediately respond to emergencies to help the victims. (MCOT online news)

Nope nothing to worry about here, I had to leave my home in Sisaket yesterday and in less than 24 hours there is a flooding in the street of about 1 meter meaning there is at least 25cm in my house but I can't get to my house withou a boat, ohhh and yeah water still rising, nothing to worry about going to be at least a week or more before I am back to clean up, luckily I got most stuff out and stored.

  4. How many Thai politicians even start out with the fanciful ideal of serving the public and the nation ? They don't have to become disillusioned as they never set out with any ideals anyway.

Thai politics is a get rich quick scheme.

Show me one country where politicians aren't crooks. Granted here and other 3rd world countries its at a higher level but even in the so called civilized Western world politicians serve themselves first and the public a distant 7th.

  5. Have you tried to restart the router?

Have you tried to reset the router to the original settings usually there is a way to do this on the router on the router I use there is a pin hole on the back that needs to be pressed. Make sure you have your log in information for True to enter on the router and you know how to set up the router before you set it to the original settings.

Anyways it were just for fun to complaint about a subpar product I sure when I go to Big C tomorrow and buy another 10 bottles they will be fine but I will check the production date.
  7. I only drink no sugar sodas and I picked up a 12 pack of 1.45L Pepsi Max today at Makro and its like water no Co2 at all, no fizz flat as water, it tastes old and without the Co2 or whater makes sodas sparkiling its like drinking old sugar water.

No sense in going back since I have opened 5 bottles already to see what the issue were and the cost is peanuts compared to the time spend getting a refund.

Just beware of production date R230413 A 17:32 And BF 210813

  8. You don't state any requirements. I know a few for 1,500 on On Nut. What do you need in this apartment of yours?

The most important things are good internet, a quiet and good size room with a balcony and a comfortable bed. The closer it is too Onnut BTS the better.

If you know of anything suitable do let me know...

I am pretty much looking for the same so please let me know if you find something and I will do the same.

OK spaceman, will do. Anything you are looking for in particular?

Been looking a alot and 9apartment.net seems to be the place to start, just looking for a decent quiet place with good internet, but from others experiences is going there and walk up and down the sois to find a good place is the best to do but it would be nice to have some recommendations. A place can look nice but then be bad.

What I am thinking is booking 2 nights at a nearby hotel and then do the foot work.

  10. If I were him I would see if I could file a complaint with Visa Thailand, Visa wants their customers to be happy and there are some tight rules when it comes to losses by fraud to protect the card holder.

Just see how easy it is to make a charge back on a transaction you do online, file a charge back on a membership or service you bought online and its almost impossible for the merchant to challange it.

  11. I am Danish (can work in Sweden) and work for a Swedish company and looking over requirements to move to Sweden its a lot easier than Denmark but looking at the online info I get confused and would like some advice.

I have been married to a Thai for 6 years and I have adopted our two 10 year old children under Thai law.

I work full time for a Swedish company.

My compnay can offer my wife a job, it can be tailor made for her so the requirements are being able to speak and write Thai, have an understanding of Thailand and so on I am tight with the owner and he employs 200+ people in any skill position so her getting a job is not an issue.

To move to Denmark we would need 300K+ THB bank guarantee + at least a 3 bedroom place + I would need an income that is big enough to take of the whole family and then my wife might not be able to work. The kids are twins and always sleep together so a 2 bedroom place would be enough for a start while we build our new life.

So what I want to ask is it that easy?

If my Thai wife and myself both have a job with a Swedish company then we can move to Sweden work, pay our taxes put our kids in the local school and just live a normal life? Being Danish I find this hard to believe because thats not the way it works in racist Denmark.

  12. I did set up a Paypal account through Kasikorn, first you need to open a savings account, your name, with debit card, Internet Banking is available right away and is well set out, then apply through internet banking for Kweb shopping card which is a cyber credit card no physical card, you can set the limit from 0 up to I think 100,000Bt, then link this to your Paypal account and once registered it works like a dream for me anyhow.KTB are in the dark ages.

    Best of luck BW

    Same I did.

Get online banking for your bank. Make sure they offer a "virtual card" or that the debit card can be used for online transactions.

    Go to Paypal.com

    Open an account.

Add a new credit card (virtual or debit card)

Paypal charges your card up to 70 baht

Enter the 4 digit code in the description on your statement it will look like PP*1234Code

Go to Paypal and enter the code to verify your card.

Been using my Kasikorn virtual card with Paypal for 3-4 years now with no issues.

  13. The Isaan forum is covering a to big area thats why I don't post a lot here but other places that are more local.

This forum covers a large area of Thailand with a lot of farangs but still have a very low priority on TV, if it were changed into 3-4 different forums I think you would see a lot more activity since 75% of the posts here has nothing to do with my area but if it were Sisaket, Ubon, Surin, Roi et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Then another for the real NE, and another with the "central NE" and so on it would have more people here.

The issue with someone doing a local forum is the libel and lese majeste laws, so its not worth even on a hobby level to run a local forum and TV seems to not care about the Isaan people if you split this forum into 3 these would still be bigger than half of the current local forums.

I really agree with this and have wondered about it. Isaan isn't so homogenous. Even for farming it has various weather, soil types, crops, water availability and elevations. It has different cultures and even languages from end to end and top to bottom.

It is too large and too diversified to lump into one forum. A lot of times when people are posting I have no idea where in Isaan they are, so I can't make a relative connection.

I want to move to Isaan but I don't know where yet. Breaking the forums up would allow more information to be gleaned. One part of me wants to move to the Surin/Buriram/Sisaket general area but I'm worried about the heat. Another of me wants to go nearer to Sakhon Nakhon but I'd like to hear more about living on the ground there. The end result is that I'll probably start out with a rental in Udonthani and travel a lot until I find a place to land.

    Mods? Please?

I lived in Sisaket for a few years and why does Sisaket go in the same local forum as Udon Thani there is a world of difference between those two places, or Ubon and Udon!

So big an area that you have missed out Korat, Buriram and Surin.

(Ironically, all those have/had local forums !).

I know of one of those thats the Surin Farang and its not that busy and very slow when it comes to non-Surin things. As far as I know there is nothing local for anything east of Surin not even a forum for people in Ubon despite having a lot of farangs. Korat is 350kms from me, Burinam close to that, I need local information within100-150kms. with your argument why does Eastern Thailand have a forum of their own, why not add it to the Pattaya forum?

In Sisaket most people did not know about the water park in Sunee until a few months back and its a great day out for the kids, the new safari zoo have been mentioned here a couple of times.

I check TV multiple times every day but its just for the news thread, I check the Isaan forum 1-2 times a week because most of the information is not relevant to me, if it were the 6-8-10 most Eastern provinces i.e. a lot smaller area the information would be more relevant to me so I would check the forum more often.
