  1. Not sure about plastic ones , but you might be able to buy one at the places that look like they make their own metal industrial kitchen stuff. There is a big one further down the sukhumvit I think on the junction of Suk and Rama 4.

You maybe able to get a plastic type one in Verasu in Mega Bang Na.

  2. Your friend read that for you on April 1st?

And I believe the rule that a Thai national could import a car tax free was taken away some years ago. To many students returned with a brand new Lamborghini.

    The exemption still exists.

Your assertion is just plain nonsense as brand new vehicles would not be eligible for exemption. As long as a student can prove that he was the registered owner of the vehicle for at least 18 months before importing it whether the car was a Lamborghini or a Lada would not make any difference at all.

EK is correct it was scrapped a few years ago. There is no tax exemption on new cars Thai or not

  3. So much anger about a car!

As in real life, isn't it always the road-raged 'tuna' that sits on the back bumper, flashing the headlights, swerving from lane to lane, not letting other traffic merge and cutting other drivers off?

Yes but only when the traffic is slowed down.........by yet another tuna holding the whole road up. Once past that it will be only another few minutes before being stuck in another queue caused by another tuna.

When the road clears I never seem to see tunas in my rear view mirror. coffee1.gifbiggrin.png

  4. I won't quote your post as it's quite long.

Good to hear you are getting something done though.

I use a weld pro tig 16k and u-weld mig 21k that haven't let me down.

The best tool/supplies shop I have found overall is Hardware house on the Bangkok pattaya motorway around Sri Racha/Laem Chabang area. They also have a branch on the Bang Na - Tradt around Bang Plee area, but I haven't been to that branch.

Also a good tool shop in Chonburi city almost next to Tesco (Bang Saen end one). They can order most things and one guy there speaks good English.

Next to Tesco Amata Nakorn in Chonburi city there is also a shop called Factory Gear that sells imported quality tools. Snap on etc. Expensive though.

    Can't help on the 2CV though. sad.png

Hardware house do sell pipe benders the normal hand hydraulic pump ones though. Global house Chonburi had one with larger size dies. There are plenty of places advertising bending and CNC in Thailand you could try one of them.

Also stainless steel gate fabricators bend pipes. MIL friend has one but haven't seen it in years so can't remember what it's like.

  5. I've only seen this phrase recently and I imagine they have been told to say it from a certain person.

Although we all know who has really done the most to hurt tourism.

    =========

There are some really unpleasant and utterly selfish people here ( and I will include some of the wifes family and some of my neighbours on that) and yes it is a fair proportion of the population, but there is also many very nice, kind, understanding people here ( and I will include many of my wifes family and some of my neighbours in that). Don't let the unpleasant people tar your opinion of all the good Thai people. Just treat them as if they don't exist. It's what they really hate.

And yes Pattaya while there are many nice people there a place that is one of the worlds biggest sex tourist/pat destinantions in the world is always going to attract lots of scum from it's own country and from around the world.

  6. "You need to be from a native speaking country to teach English here and you need a degree to teach in schools."

I really wish people would be banned for spreading misinformation. I doubt that poster is a qualified teacher or has ever taught here. He/she clearly doesn't know the rules.

    OP,

You asked about other countries. South Korea is off limits to you. That country it is impossible for non native speakers to get a visa without a passport from the 7 English speaking countries. They also require a degree. The process to get jobs in Korea is strict and the pay has actually gone down in the past few years.

I admire your immediate interest and dedication, but to be frank that can waine quickly. You have no experience, no degree, no skill set. What makes you think that you would actually help people? I personally, think that younger learners need the best teachers not the lowest common denominator. Schools usually put their least qualified teaching the beginner classes and the most qualified teaching their highest level. I sometimes think that the beginner classes especially young learners need the most accurate and clear language skills as they will develop mistakes much quicker than adults and will be much harder to unlearn them.

My own daughter was taught to mispronounce a word by her so called"English" teacher and told me that I was wrong.

OP. You don't want advice. You don't want to be sensible. You want everyone here to give you permission and help you get started here.

Come to Thailand, apply to schools and get a job. You will get hired. You will find work.

"I have read that people without degree get's around 30 000 - 35 000 TBH the month. Honestly i can live with that. But out of curiosity, how much is the appropriate amount with a degree?"

    ***Wishful thinking.***

Native speakers with degrees are getting paid that. In Bkk most jobs still pay less than 40k baht a month for starting teachers. out of the first 40 ads yesterday 15 of them were for 30k baht a month starting. As a non native without a degree expect to make 20-30k. Once you build contacts and a reputation, you can get lucky.

On Ajarn dot com job ads, any job over 40k baht a month specifically requests native speaker, with relevant degree and experience.

You will be paid lower than native speakers, qualified teachers and those with degrees. You will find it hard to get full time positions at first. Part time jobs will be around for 200-400 baht an hour but most won't provide a work permit. Without a proper visa and work permit, you will be illegal and will also spend more money leaving the country every few months renewing your visa.

As a non native speaker all you have to do is pass a TOEIC or TOEFL to prove that your English is good enough. But to be honest those tests are quite easy and don't actually prove communicative ability. Memorizing words is enough.

The real problem is that you have no experience, nor degree. You have nothing to offer.

If you don't have a lot of money to start out, don't come. You will earn enough to live a very humble life. You will not earn enough to have a girl friend, family, or travel much. You won't be able to save anything. Bring at least 5k Euros with you minimum plus a return ticket.

As Smokie suggested. Finish school, get a degree in a relevant field (education, linguistics, TESOL,) and then live your life. If you are looking for a gap year, then come and enjoy. Don't fool yourself though. You are not doing this to help anyone. You are doing this to live your life selfishly. If you want to help people stay in your country, go to a neighborhood after school center and help the inner city kids.

***You can find French Teaching jobs, but you will run into the same problem because you don't have a degree. ***

    Bad day ?

  7. You need to be from a native speaking country to teach English here and you need a degree to teach in schools.

Language schools apparently take people without degrees , but the pay is abysmal and the hours will most likely be evenings and weekends.

Everyone wants to teach in Bangkok so it will be harder.

Out in the boonies they take non degree qualified people in schools without work permits visas. Dodgy visas have been cracked down on so this would be harder.

What country are you from ?

  8. Do yourself a favour, get the new Ford Everest, far superior to all similar priced models and that includes a new Fortuner.

(DELETED) - the Ford is a piece of (DELETED) compared to the fortuner. The engine is loud, there's a second or so inverval until the gear kicks in, underpowered and too heavy. I had a new Everest and hated it! Before that I had a Fortuner and now I, again!!! have a new Fortuner and am in heaven! Ford is USA (DELETED) with a very bad resale value. A Fortuner always sells much higher when sold 2nd hand.

Advising someone to buy a (DELETED) Everest instead of a Fortuner is like telling someone that visiting Kosovo outperforms a two weeks Maledives vacation!

I never saw a Fortuner in my homecountry Switzerland. Overthere we have different kind of SUVs, like Range Rover, Discovery, V8 Chevrolets, Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Cherokees, Dodge or what ever. Sorry, but i would never spent 1.5 Mill for a 4 banger rattle diesel tuna.

The Fortuner is only sold in 2nd and 3rd world countries as they don't require crash testing. coffee1.gif

Not really much chance of a 2 tonne cardboard box passing I suppose.
