  3. Maybe the problem is with the 'Nation' who are the 'other half' of the news alerts. Inaccurate reporting yesterday from them carried a caption underneath a photo,'Masked health officials diligently scrubbed away the blood the red shirts splattered at the gates of Government House and nearby roads yesterday evening. ' the photo was actually of the Democrat Party offices 2 miles away.

    Well said!

The newspapers are clearly going to make more from attention-grabbing headlines than the more tempered factual ones and the papers here are hardly going to rein-in the sensationalism!

I think it's also notable that in the original post, there's one key word that gives a clue as to whether the drive for the story is more from the PM's public relations 'spinners' or from the clamouring journalists and newspapers eager to stir this lame episode of the last week into something more dramatic... and that is the word "admits".

Needless to say, it's unlikely that the PM's office would hide information about an assasination plot *report* and it'd probably be detrimental to their objective of retaining a public image of calm control and open-ness; but there's quite a difference between coming forward and proclaiming vs. responding to questions from reporters looking for a headline.

It's doubtless that the PM (as with any astute politician - lest we forget that there are hardly any in any country that hasn't learnt some aspect of leveraging PR and 'spin') will stand to gain if the country sympathises with him following the reports of a threat on his life. However, I see more shrewd and thoughtful diplomacy in the statement issued by *Abhisit's office* than in the scurrilous and desperate accusations of the self-serving Thaksin. It's quite right for the PM to decline to "accept" that the red shirts are protesting for the sake of democracy, because there's absolutely no reason for them to accept such rubbish! But that doesn't make them so idiotic as to come forward and proclaim it in a tit-for-tat retort to the rantings of a foolish man. Which makes it clear who is currently best suited to govern the country!

Really, the tragedy of this whole thing is that such valuable principles as "democracy", and justice are being kicked around and (maybe irrevocably) damaged like footballs by a man who evidently has neither done nor sacrificed anything for whatsoever. How can a man with billions seriously claim to fight for the working classes and democracy!? So, now, whomever should want to do so sincerely and legitimately will quite probably be associated with the man who sold out his country's poorest and most in need in order to attempt to claw back ill-gotten wealth and power for his own elitist clan.

But then who knows what the truth is really here? We just stand on the sidelines, spectating and speculating at the possible facts based on hearsay and conjecture, while the rest is coming to us through very clumsy and inefficient filters - both that of the media and that of the language barrier...!

  4. Hi guys,

With the long-term injury list growing and a few on excursions, it's slim pickings this week... Should have just enough for a 4 vs 4 at least this Sunday, hopefully.

So, as far as I know, the 'list' for this week is:

    Confirmed/expected for Sunday 14th March:

    - Damaja

    - Angustan (+1 -Eumin)

    - Groovetank

    - Tamo

    - Sure

    - JonnyF

    - Bkksteviejai

    Maybe, but not sure:

    - Dred

    - Beechy

    - vid1

    - Neutronium (+1?)

Can't make it (till) or haven't been/seen/heard from for a while:

    - EmanuelSWE (?)

    - Thehabs (21st March?)

    - Richard_smith237 (2nd May? -away)

    - NicFoxe (? -injured)

    - Beejoir (May? -injured)

    - Luang (? -injured)

    - MegaRanter (?)

    - Chrisdino (?)

    - ChrisMoss (?)

    - Aaron UK [walk-in]

    - Martin DE [walk-in]

    - Ronnie (?)

    - Joseph (?)

    - VespaSeeker (?)

    - WarpSpeed (?)

    - Wossnext (?)

    - MSingh (?)

  5. Also if everyone bought two coloured shirts either white/red/blue it would help hugely. I've got football kits from my company and I'm happy to donate them for cost (50 baht) per shirt, but they are either Green or Yellow, will add a new kit soon for the coming season in red.

That would be cool Chris - excellent idea!

I'm sure everyone could afford to buy one of each easily at that price, then we all bring all our shirts and can change accordingly...

How's ur mobility at the moment? Hopping along ok? :)

Would you be able to bring a batch of each colour along this Sunday? Or would you need to collect the money first?

How can we do it best?

  6. Adam, I'm OK for this Sunday or a midweek game if a booking opens up...
Are we on for a Mid-week game ?

I'm sorry to say the slots for mid-week were all full again when I asked - Tues, Wed, and Thurs all fully booked from 6.30pm till at least 9pm!

Will try again later in the week for next week.

Of course, Sunday 14th March is still booked, 4pm again, so post away with your 'yays' and 'nays' please.

    :)

  7. As for me I have severely bruised tendons / bone in right elbow....should be ok.......
for me due to my old injury and 2 torn knee ligament (both on the right and left!) the knee is all swelled up now but should be ok with some icing....
Sorry to hear that Chris, my ribs have just about recovered from Dred's "vicious" body check two weeks ago :):D

Blimey, we're not gonna have anyone left to play in a few weeks at this rate!!

Maybe we should consider some way(s) to reduce the potential/risk of injuries.. ?

I think it is starting to get a bit more agressive and competitive last few weeks, not quite as relaxed and good-mannered as was first couple of weeks.

I'm thinking we should try and ease off the gas a bit, especially in tackles and 50/50 balls. Probably not wise to go at it hellbent to win the ball on a pitch that's made of concrete and is about as forgiving as Satan's hoof! No real need after all - we don't even keep score most of the time and that's how I'd prefer to keep it. I will get drawn in sometimes myself when the pace quickens up - especially if someone's hacking at my heels or buzzing around me like a starving jack-russell. But it's best if we try keep it a quick passing game rather than a quick-running/tackling game methinks.

So any suggestions on slowing things down a bit?

I'm thinking of at least instigating a bench ref, one for each 'team', and we start calling more fouls and free-kicks. At the moment it's all on 'honour' rules, but it's maybe a good reminder to hear a whistle every now and again when the blood starts to rise up!

    :D

  8. Joining the long list of famous footballers, as well as the weekly injury list, I've snapped my 5th Metotarsal and will be in cast for 2-3 months!!

See you all on the other side.

What a b_gger mate! Definitely will miss u as one of our most regular and chirpy chappies!

Will u come and visit us once in a while?

And what about Dred? Is he gonna be coming still, even without u???? :)

How did it happen btw? Someone step on your toe or was it a driving shot into the ground?

  9. Hi guys,

Thanks again to the above for posting their availability here on the topic during the week.

Should have enough for this Sunday assuming all confirmations stay as so.

I'll be coming with the ball (now nicely pumped up) but have had a pretty bad ear infection last few days, so may only participate lightly again.

As usual, court is already booked for 4pm 7th March.

So, as far as I know, the 'list' for this week assumes mostly same as last week with a couple of injuries and exceptions...:

    Contact list:

  10. Cheers to the 12 players that came on Sunday 28th. Good friendly games are becoming the consistent norm, which is really great to see and makes for a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

I tried to make a booking for a mid-week game, but I'm afraid to say there were no slots free on any evening except Friday. It's fully booked at any time from 18:00 till 22:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I can try again on Wednesday to see if there's been any cancellations, but I don't hold out much hope for that.

So, we can try again next week.

Booking for next Sunday is already made though.

So, hope plenty can make it on Sunday 7th March at 4pm

Please post your availability for next Sunday (yes/no) here on the topic.

    Cheers and see u soon.

    :)

  11. Ok, seems we're all set for playing today at 4pm...

So, as far as I know, the 'list' for this week basically assumes same as last week with a couple of exceptions...:

    - VespaSeeker

    - WarpSpeed

Hope to see you all there!

    :)

  12. great job on getting the weekday game started Chris!

Nothing to do with me its all Adam he's the one who sorted everything.

Be nice to get a solid 8/10 players mid week every week for a game, Both Dred and I are around for another few weeks, though I know Joseph/James both left this week for a while.

Au contraire mon frere! Credit where due - Beejoir did the booking, gathering and the rest for the midweek game, not I.

Myself, Dred and Josh are in how's the foot Adam?

Foot's ok, cheers. Not 100% yet though, so will mainly be making up the numbers and keepin goal this week.

Not booked yet, I can book it now though, 4pm to 5pm......I'll get the number off their website.

    Stevo

The court should be booked at 4pm for us already. I asked for it to be rolled on last week.

Did you make a booking Steve? In which case, that might turn out to be a 2nd booking...:S

Don't think it'd be much to worry about tho, as they usually have very few bookings on Sunday.

  13. So you admit that you have been creamed off 60 Cent Euro for a trip into Krabi Town - I am very, very sorry for your plight, must have been unbearable torture and the lasting trauma... sue them!

typical reaction from some on here, maybe you know the company also on Samui and being in Chaweng theywould surely operate a similar scam

I can sympathise KKvampire. It's not just the money, it's the time and the stress that counts and it's exhausting! You are harried and hustled in these kinds of scams and they do so while keeping you in the dark because they know that the travel exhaustion and disorientation you experience will render you hopelessely easy to rip-off.

If they were making extra money but providing smoother and quicker travel, no-one would feel ripped off. It's the fact that they make it take longer, and be more stressful and uncomfortable than the cheaper standard/public transport that makes it a nasty and distressing experience.

Samuian's sarcasm is short-sighted and uncalled for!

I'm also trying to avoid the herding and hassle on the same route in reverse - getting from Ao Nang to Surat Thani airport - so also would be very glad of any advice on the Govt. bus stations in Krabi and Surat Thani.

Did you manage to get any timing or location info for catching the buses from Ao Nang to Krabi Bus Station and then to Surat Thani Bus Station and Airport (URT), KKvampire?

  14. Looks like Tuesday is a goer! Nice one Chris!

As mentioned I'm away Tuesday evenin till Friday anyway, so unfortunately won't be joinin this week, but next week my name's back in th hat!

My ankle is thankfully not as bad as it probably could've been (and has been past times when I've twisted/sprained same), so with a bit of luck I'll be ready to rock n rolla' on Sunday 28th.

    Have a good'un 2moro evenin guys!

    :)

  15. Ok guys, here's the round-up for playing footy this Sunday 21st at 4pm

(much thanks to all that posted their confirmations on this topic thread - makes it much easier to gather the list):

    Expected for Sunday 21st:

    - Damaja

    - Angustan (+1?)

    - Beejoir (+1)

    - Groovetank (+1)

    - JonnyF

    - Thehabs

    - Tamo

    - NicFoxe

    - Sure

    - VespaSeeker

    Maybe, but not sure:

    - Aaron UK [walk-in]

    - Martin DE [walk-in]

    - Ronnie

    - EmanuelSWE

    - Chrisdino

    - MegaRanter

    - ChrisMoss

    - WarpSpeed

As you can see, it's looking like a big resurgence this week, so should be no probs having enough people, especially as the 'maybe' list includes several people that I'm fairly sure will come, but they haven't confirmed yet. So, it's likely we'll extend to two hours to make sure everyone gets a good run-around! It'll be cheaper with more people, and the 1st hour is 600bht (split between all that come), but don't forget, the 2nd hour will be at 1200 bht, so I estimate total for the 2hrs playing will be approx 120 - 180 bht each. Look forward to seein you all there at 4!

    Cheers,

    Adam.

    :)

    Still in the loop....

    Can't make it (till):

    - vid1 (28th Feb?)

    - Richard_smith237 (28th Feb?)

    - Luang (? -injured)

    - Beechy (? -injured)

    - Neutronium (? -injured)

    - Bkksteviejai (?)

    - Wossnext (?)

    - MSingh (?)

  16. Like to make it but I'm quite uncertain about directions from Don Muang and will have my 2 young boys with to watch. Right now they are sick but might be past it by then, hopefully they won't pass it on to me.. Does anyone have anything close to Google type map??

So, after those excellent directions, will you be coming along this Sunday (21st) do you think, WarpSpeed?

And I'm assuming you're coming for sure then VespaSeeker?

  17. Like to make it but I'm quite uncertain about directions from Don Muang and will have my 2 young boys with to watch. Right now they are sick but might be past it by then, hopefully they won't pass it on to me.. Does anyone have anything close to Google type map??

Blimey! You must be keen for a game if you're willing to come all the way from Don Muang!

    Here's the google map link:

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?oe=UTF-8&am...019248&z=16

Zoom right in and you can see the 2 green futsal/basketball courts.

  18. I can't make it on this Thursday but will defenitely be there sunday at 4.00.

    Tamo

    No game this Thursday (18th)

    But Sunday 21st I've booked for 4pm

I've actually realised I'll be away from 7pm on Tuesday 23rd until Saturday 27th,

so I can't play a mid week game that week! :)

So, if there's still guys that want to play mid week, you'd better holller and then I'll leave it to you

    - I can make a booking for you - on Tuesday 23rd at 7pm?

  19. Sorry we've been mad busy, the Dred and I are back on it now for any games, mid week or week.

    Cheers

    Chris

    Glad to hear it mate!

You've been missed - and most of the others too - especially as we only scraped by with 6 (then 7 when a chance onlooker joined in) players on Sunday!

So, can everyone just post up their availability during the week on this topic in future please?

    i.e.: "I definitely will/won't be coming on Sunday 21st ..."

I'll try to keep the round-ups by email going, but it may slip a bit sometimes as did last week, so at least if you all post it up here, then everyone can see who's coming and how many we should expect each week, and it won't be reliant on me if I'm busy or not around, ok?

I'll make a booking for a mid-week game next week, I'll try for Tuesday 7pm - 8pm first as this seems to have topped out the poll so far (with a 'massive' 2 vote margin out of 10 total!).

This Sunday (21st Feb) I've moved the booking to 4pm as it's cheaper.

So, who's going to be coming then....?
