I use a V.P.N. ( Surfshark ) most of the time on my laptop . I have noticed that there has been a lot of " no or slow connections " recently . So I did some speed tests and was surprised at the results as follows . FAST Speed test = no VPN 390mbps down , with VPN 20 Mbps down .   OOkLA no VPN = 250 Mbps down ,  with VPN = no connection .

Test my.net  with VPN = 26 down ,  no VPN =55 Mbps down ,     When connected using my VPN I have a UK location address .

Are my speed test results typical , or do other VPN companies give better results ?

I use TunnelBear and have no problems at most times. Sometimes slow at 08 to 08:30, but mostly TunnelBear does not interfere with my UK connections.

    Hi

There used to be a used book shop in Phang Nga Road, Phuket town, which closed a few months ago.  I've heard that there is a new shop opened somewhere else.  Does anyone know where?

Not surprised its closed, I can remember it from 30 years ago.

Thank you for assuring the public about "due process", "the law", "self-investigation" and stuff. It sounds so officious and seems to validate all of it. Yet, this statement has been trumpeted so many times by the RTP that the public could probably recite it by rote. Everything the RTP touches is done by the book and everyone in the RTP is corrupt. Go figure...

I remember a song entitled, 'Anything Go's'. Perhaps that's title of the book the RTP uses?

Yes, having the corrupt investigate the corrupt, won't work.

The only teal way is to have a completely independent group, who are above any suspicion to do any investigation, trying to find a group like that in Thailand would be 'almost' impossible!

Ah! You mean like nailing jelly to a tree?

  5. Taking the shopping list to the local corner shop with the ration book, every Thursday.

Buying 2 OXO for half penny on the way to school

    The winter of 47

Devastation of being caught in the tin bath by my sisters friend at the age of 7. I didn't know things back then!

Following the dust cart hoping to collect the horse manure to sell @ 3pence a bucket full

First visit to London 1951, first train ride, first sight of an escalator and first sight of a TV

2 days off school due to death of King George VI

    Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II

Things have changed. For better or worse? 50/50 is my guess.

  6. I don't drink beer, its not that I don't like it, it doesn't like me. It has me running to the loo every five minutes about half way down the bottle.  A good Gin, Rum or Whiskey and I'm fine for the evening. Wouldn't touch the stuff in the day time. Each to their own.

you dont like his  opinion so you are going to hit  him, speaks  volumes.

I for one can understand his frustration. Being a little disabled myself, it can be very annoying with someone stood behind you, muttering and tutting. My attitude then is to go a little slower, knowing their time will come one day. My sincere hope is that their problem is five time worse than mine. Being Rampant Rabbit must have disadvantages, I guess?

  8. Some 15 years ago my wife and I went to the local Amphur for a yellow book. Asked the man what was required and given a short list of, Passport translation to Thai and photo copy of marriage license. He explained where the translation and copy shop was. Returned to the Amphur office about an hour later. 'Come back about 3 o'clock he said. 3 o'clock we were presented with the Yellow book and told we could get the Pink ID card from the office across the hall. All done and dusted and on our way home by 4pm and only 560Baht lighter.

I have been reading here all the cock and bull some have to go through for a little yellow book and Pink card. Why Oh why, do the Thai people have to make such a big deal out of a very simple exercise!

It seems to me that Thailand might be shooting itself in the foot. I for one am considering not making my usual transfers to Thailand but using my UK ATM and visa cards to make purchases. Contactless makes that so easy now. I'll use the money I already have saved here to make minor purchases where a card isn't possible, but even many market stalls have QR codes now.

That sound like it might be expensive. Principals can be a fine thing until they shatter.
