  1. Yes this teknic chicane looks really nice designed and most importantly they look like of real strong durable build for the most important factor "the safety". I have seen a shop on the ads of mocyc that sold teknic chicane boots and gloves, but cant remember if they had jacket n pants.

That would be Banana Speed Thailandbananaspeedthailand.com

But yes they only advertise Teknic

Jacket, Gloves & boots pity as Teknic is a very nice brand

You could probably shoot them a request though & maybe?

Or just do as RSD did & order overseas

So how good is teknic compared to rst ? And is it compareble to alpine stars and dainese? Thanks!

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

It has been a few years for me now but when I used Teknic I considered it as good as anything.

Both their boots & full leathers & even gloves

BTW you might email Banana speed because I know they do sell Teknic full leathers

but I do not see it on their site. So maybe pants too?

This is a recent post by them on another forum showing full leathers

  3. I need to drive this baby to see if it is good for me or not, is there a proper testing track in BKK or pattaya?

I mean somthing round, not a parking lot at the back of the shop like I saw on youtube

I am deciding between ninja 250, honda 500 or some enduro, kawa or honda

I need it mostly as a scooter substitute for the city drive around and sometimes going on a trip, who knows...

Probably the best bet is to go rent one for a day wink.png

Would be cool if you found a rental place that has all the bikes

your thinking of buying. Then make a deal with the owner that for a price

& on a day of his choice ( slow day ) you could ride each for 2 hours

Or maybe just get a 2-4 hour rate for each

  4. If the law is defaulted to no left on red why do they have a sign at certain intersections that specifically state no left on red? wink.png 20 years I've been turning left on red except where noted otherwise, along with 10's of thousands of Thais and have never been stopped even when there was a cadre of BIB just around the corner. I don't buy that there is a law specifically excluding it unless you can supply me with the law in Thai, no English translation to preclude misinterpretation.

I dont use Apple but this might be good?

    http://www.pantip.com/trafficLaw/

But also I am confused if it is just that your questioning what the law default is?

Because it seems they do in fact have a sign there saying no left on red..albeit in Thai

  5. A note to anyone who might be consider picking one up- I'm a 44/54 in Dainese leather jackets (I currently have a perforated Rebel jacket made by them)- I got a 54 in the G Air-3 Tex and I'm ok with it, but I could have gone down to a 42/52- it seems the Dainese textile stuff runs bigger (at least as far as my anecdotal evidence has shown) in case you aren't in Bangkok and plan to order one.

Congrats on all the new gear

Sizing same as me I had the choice 52 or 54

52 was probably perfect but I went 54 thinking if I put

a back protector in it may be too tight across the shoulders when

    in handlebar reach position

  6. Does suck but to be fair

Ignorantia juris non excusat or ignorantia legis neminem excusat

(Latin for "ignorance of the law does not excuse" or "ignorance of the law excuses no one")

is a legal principle holding that a person who is unaware of a law may not escape liability for

violating that law merely because he or she was unaware of its content.

I know in the USA where I am from
all traffic signs & rules are not posted in multiple languages.
Yes I know English is the world reserve language but still...TIT

I think if complaints get large enough one of two things will happen.
    1- Signage in English or,

2- They no longer allow foreigners with previous
drivers licenses from other countries to just skip the written test.

Instead they may want to be sure we know "their" laws & how they differ
from "ours" back home. Same as foreigners are made to take written tests

in the US to obtain a US drivers license. That way they are made to learn the US rules

    & how they differ.

  7. It is a tough nut for sure

On the one hand you have the over worked workers

& the sub-standard facility. They have to go there everyday

of their lives & that must be rough.

On the other hand you have a large amount of foreigners who need

services because they need to comply with rules. Rules that

most foreigners agree may be a bit dated & useless & only add

to the work load with no logical benefit to Thailand.

I bet some of the workers feel the exact same way

about 90 day reports & reentry permits.

I think it will probably get worse before it gets better.

CM is a popular spot now for foreigners to retire. With that comes a building boom

that needs laborers & that can also add to immigration woes as many seem to come from

    Burma/Myanmar

  8. Yes like all things I guess it grows & evolves

into more of a party. Given they have super soaker's now

    & such smile.png

The last 3 or 4 Songkrans we spent in my wife's family village.

Very mellow old style with the silver bowls being the supply

& a small cup used to dip into it & poured directly on top of your head/shoulders

    or hands..

    More like a blessing

They do have festivities at a nearby river which are fun to watch.

Like two of them inching towards each other on a pole over the river with boxing gloves.

Then they try to knock each other off.

    Or paddle boat races etc.

This year will be our first time staying here in Chiangmai during Songkran.

Probably spend a lot of time inside & go out early or later in the day.

Maybe take one scooter ride past the fun but probably not the moat area

I don't mind getting soaked with govt water but, that moat water is sketchy at best smile.png

  9. I got one a few days ago in Chiang Mai. I went for the black. Not run in yet as haven't had time, but I do like the ergonomics and the torque from low-ish revs. Also love the standard tyres - Pirelli Scorpions. I had them before on a KLR650, and they were great road tyres. I don't know about the claimed use off road - the tread is not designed for it. Maybe the 90/10 that Pirelli claim is 10 for rough roads. If so, perfect for Thailand. And I would like to get some frame sliders for it - anyone know where I can get some? And fit to where exactly - the guy at BigWing wouldn't offer a suggestion. The front engine mounting bolts look like the best option. (I know they don't really help with a big slide, but are great for a driveway drop with all of that plastic to worry about).

    Congrats on the new bike!

On the sliders check with RSV Racing or Moth Racing

  10. You guys are actually buying all this?

Might be a day late but has to be a April fools deal wink.png

Anyone who knows enough to mention the motoman break-in does

not need to ask you what you think about swapping to synthetic so soon wink.png

plonk is the sound the fishing line makes when it hits the water

  11. However, the letter would have April 4 as a date, which is not technically 2 months (2 months - 1 day). As a result, does it matter or should i wait at least the letter to be two months?

Just curious but I always thought the 2 month was just an allowance for your first year

I thought thereafter you had to have the funds seasoned for 3 months?

    Can anyone verify? Just curious

    Thanks

  12. My wife does not like it at all.

She usually tells them "Doo Gone" in Thai = just looking.

But then she does not like it even if it is me standing waiting while she looks smile.png

Personally I never do browsing type shopping. If I need something I just go get

it & kind of know where to find it.

So when my wife is browsing I like to go play pied piper with the clerks

in another department. I wander in looking & soon a small train is on my heels.

I stop every so often & pick something up & exclaim to the clerk following...Ooooo Pang Maak Chai Mai?

They always laugh & say Mai Pang but I get a kick out of it when once in a while one will

smile & nod yes. I know they are also bored so do not mind them following & they almost never say anything

unless asked. Not like they are being pushy for sales at least not in my experience.

    Have Fun

  13. I am not trying to say you have to report or anything. However, your statement that no such law exists and it is being confused with a landlord's requirement I don't think is correct. I am just putting this for your information.

Yes thanks & yes I felt the same way.

Those word were the cops not mine.

I assumed since the form exists it must be a requirement

But I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Because when you read the requirements you posted from the section 37

    It states...

"An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom must comply with the

    following"

So being on a 1 year visa I am not temp per se' ?

But it also says in this wording

"Shall notify the police official of the local police station where such alien resides, within twenty

    – four hours from the time of arrival."

The wording "where such alien resides" suggests to me possibly the hotel or landlords? are doing that step.

Perhaps that is the form the hotels use to file back when I was

a tourist I remember having copies of my passport made & a form filled.

If not & such a law existed laying the work on tourist

"An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom"

surely you would be told by the airlines

or customs as you arrive in Thailand to proceed to a cop shop?

"within twenty – four hours from the time of arrival."

But also in the following section 5 it addresses folks who stay 90 days or longer.

What they describe I of course comply with thru my 90 day reporting.

So yes I was told to do the TM form & I tried.

But was basically told by the police nope.

Have you ever filed one in Chiang Mai?

  14. I was actually thinking of popping into the police station since someone said it was possible to get one from there. They certainly wouldn't charge a fee. Whether they'd have a clue what I was on about is a different matter. Anyone know how to say "certificate of residency" in Thai? Certificate is normally "ใบ" but I've no idea what Thais say for "residency". Is it "ทำเนียบ" (tham niap) by chance?

I am guessing it would be Tii Pag ที่พัก for residence but maybe yours tam-niiap being official residence

is more correct? & Bai-rap-rong ใบรับรอง for certificate

    so maybe, Tii-Pag... Bai-rap-rong ?

    Good luck though wink.png

When I moved here last year I read on this forum in the visa section someone claimed

when you first move your suppose to report your presence to the police.

Well my wife & I went down & they were all smiles till she told them I needed to report my presence.

Then their faces all turned to mad as they asked what it is I had done in my previous country that required this.

I guess they thought I was a perv or something.

Well come to find out no such law exists but some folks confuse the law that requires landlords

& hotels to report the presence of foreigners smile.png

  15. bank accounts are important even for "little" people. how would they pay monthly recurring expenses such as rent, electricity, gas, water and a dozen other things?

Probably the old fashioned way in cash.

I know where I lived in the USA all the utility companies

were right near each other in town & had walk up windows to accept cash payments.

If they had rent I doubt the landlord would not accept cash either in person or deposited into his account.

I knew many folks who did keep a small credit union or bank account just to have for check cashing

but even that these days can be done elsewhere for a small fee or no fee at the originating bank if

    you have proper ID

Again these are not big depositors but middle class folks who have a savings so small a hiding spot or safe

at home would do just as well. Especially if like Yosh said negative interest rates or more banking fee's become

    common place.
