  1. Any particular authors you'd be interested in and I will do ? I could include a full list but it would take a while to sort through and type up and only really worth my effort if someone is seriously interested.
  2. I spent the majority of my working life looking at a computer screen and refuse to do the same looking at a Kindle or whatever now and remain a book lover for my reading. I have not counted but have in the region of 100 paperback books requiring a new home. I don't want anything for them apart from covering any costs to move them on. If anyone had books they would exchange that would be good. Books are all fiction, crime, thrillers, adventure type stories by largely well known authors. I am currently living between Pak Thong Chai and Wang Nam Khiao south of Khorat. Get in touch if you're interested..
  3. Hi all, My (Thai) wife is in need of a new passport and the last couple of times we have been to the office in Khon Kaen to get one as this is just a couple of hours away for us. Does anyone know if this office is still there, roughly behind the old central bus station, and opening at the moment ? Whilst not an overly exciting place, compared to the village we are in Khon Kaen is the big city and it would be nice to have a couple of days away whilst doing the necessary. So as a follow up, are hotels (usually stay at Roma), bars, street food stalls, etc open in Khon Kaen ? Thanks for any help ...
  4. Cheers. I'm booked Suvarnabhumi to Khon Kaen with Thai Smile. The Roi Et flight would have been air asia.
  5. Thanks Jeffr2. I will be back in Thailand on Monday, all being well, and have a domestic flight with Thai Smile booked for Wednesday morning.
  6. I'm guessing this would have been the 'pink' bus company and I'm told they aren't running at the moment.
  7. Yes, good call sapson. I have never flown Thai Smile so they're not an airline that comes to mind but having checked their schedule they still appear to be offering a suitable flight to Khon Kaen including the 20kg baggage check-in. I can get picked up from Roi Et airport by a neighbour but he wont come to Khon Kaen but I could, usually anyway, easily take a local bus to complete my journey or even splash out on a taxi which I have done on a number of occasions before. I usually use Sahapan Tours buses from Mo Chit to my neighbouring town of Phonthong but was leaving buses as a last resort at the moment although not yet ruled out. Will give it some thought today and book something in next few days. Cheers
  8. Well, yes. I dont find them too reliable in my experience though.
  9. They're telling me that they wont carry any luggage other than <7kg carry-on at this time. Usually extra baggage can be bought when booking tickets but this isnt currently avaiable.
  10. I will be coming back to Thailand in a couple of weeks time and doing the one night in Bangkok hotel before being released into the community. I will have a <20kg suitcase with me, as well as a <7kg carry one, but have just discovered that the only flights from Don Muang to either Roi Et or Khon Kaen at the moment are carry on, ,7g, baggage only and no check-ins. Can anyone make a suggestion for a reliable delivery to my house for a suitcase ?
  11. Its no wonder its being over run at the moment. Browsing around different forums, how many people have gone to the site 'just to have a look' ?
  12. Times out, times out, timed out .... obviously being over run at the moment
  13. Just received the same e-mail from the London Embassy. Was due to be flying on 10 Nov with 7 day Sandbox in Phuket. Good news is that I can now change to just the one night in Bangkok bad news is will there still be time to get registered and everything approved before I am due to leave. I didnt like the Sandbox arrangements but once I had decided to go for it found it reasonably straightforward and was now looking forward to traveling. Have to start over again now and start cancelling everything booked for Phuket. I think I will put things back a week. The thought of everyone trying to access Thailandpass at roughly the same time on its first morning fills me with dread. The caveat in the e-mail also doesnt look; ( Caution approved the new system will be implemented by the public , not the Embassy. Therefore, travelers are requested to pre-register with an additional time for approval.) So that means getting through the bottleneck to register and then an additional 7 working days+ to receive approval. Dont see too many people flying for a few days after 8 Nov. Good luck to all travelers ...
  14. Just a note for travelers heading to Thailand from UK about their insurance. NOTE this is only concerning your general health/travel insurance policies. It is my understanding that any existing policies become invalid if the country you are visiting goes on the FCO 'do not travel' list such as Thailand is at the moment. UK insurance companies wont issue new policies for visits to Thailand either at the moment. If you have a worldwide coverage policy and visit Thailand the policy wont be valid for your time there. This might not be 100% correct but might be worth checking any policies that you rely upon.
  15. Just completing my e-visa application after a number of days gathering the necessary documents. The last item on the application is "Residence permit in a country in which visa application is submitted (In case that applicant is not a national of the country in which visa application is submitted.)". I'm English, in the UK and applying through the London Embassy so does anyone have any idea what would constitute a residence permit in the UK ? There must be a number of you who have already completed this on-line ... Cheers
  16. "650 baht/night for my 4 star hotel." Where did you stay PoorSucker ?
  17. Thanks for your reply. I'm guessing that you made the application in person at the Embassy as using the e-visa on-line application flight and hotel are mandatory fields and I couldnt continue without completing them. I've contacted the Embassy but as yesterday was a Sunday I'll have to wait for their reply.
  18. Thanks Joe, reliable as ever with your advice. If I'm honest, I was a bit p*ssed off when I read the requirements this morning and shut my laptop off in a hissy fit. I will try again tomorrow and spend a bit more time looking into it.
  19. I have been loosely planning a return to Thailand for a while now to reunite with my wife who I haven't seen for eighteen months. I woke up this morning and decided to bite the bullet and start things in motion by applying for a visa on the grounds that with the visa out of the way I would have three months to sort out all the other 'necessities'. So I start to complete the e-visa application for the Thai Embassy in London. I then discover that flight and hotel details are requirements for the application. I have had a number of different visas over the last 20 years but I'm pretty sure I have never needed to book such things before applying for a visa. I appreciate that there have ben many changes lately so is this also new ? Is there anyone who has been through this procedure (visas, quarantine, COE, etc) with the Embassy in London who would be prepared to message me to allow me to pick your brain about your experience ?
  20. Are there any people reading this thread who have recently completed quarantine or sandbox and have experience of traveling to other parts of the country once released ? Would be interested to hear what the situation is on the ground ... no flights, inter-provincial buses, etc
  21. Thanks for your thoughts chaps, much appreciated
