Congratulations. You must have extraordinary vetting skills!

Thanks CharlieH for the helpful post.
I won't memorize the numbers but I've taken a photo so I can reference them if the occasion arises.
I'm disappointed but not surprised a very serious post brought out such frivolity by some forum members. I was told the Thai victim died and as with most deaths, while his worries and problems are over, they may be just beginning for members of his family. On the way home I used the incident to emphasize to the Mrs. the importance of defensive and alert driving at all times.
I suppose those who considered this thread a humor opportunity won't be surprised if people just walk past them if ever they're stuck with an emergency. Maybe someday they'll get a chance to reap what they sow.

I just find it strange that (as it has been mentioned accurately) that PH immigration can give her a hard time, despite the fact that she has everything she needs to exit legally.
I'm aware of this.
I think possibly it may be a matter of the Philippines not wanting to piss off other countries by allowing their citizens to land on foreign shores without any intention of returning to the Philippines.

What number would you dial when you see an injury or fatal accident? The Mrs. and I walked by one on Soi 12 about only 25 meters from Pattaya Klang a couple of nights ago. We’d had dinner with and just dropped off some friends at the hotel where they stayed and went back to a beer bar we passed where we saw another friend. When we rounded the corner of Soi 12 from Pattaya Klang where we parked I saw a songtaue (baht bus) stopped with a crowd (15 - 20 people) around it. At first I thought the driver was repairing something underneath the bus. As we got closer I realized a person was under the bus and by the position of the body I feared the worst. We met our friend at the beer bar for a beer and I observed how long it took for medical personal to arrive on the scene. The accident was within sight of where we were in the beer bar. It was over 25 minutes before any medical personnel arrived to assist.I was surprised by the time it took for a medical response as the distance to nearby Pattaya Memorial Hospital could have easily been walked within that time. So, again, what number and what agency, police or hospital, would you call?

Only Baht 200k is needed in the bank for retirement visa extension if your visa has been continuously extended for retirement since 21 October 1998. This is according to the Immigration Dept website (Criteria for retirement, para 6a).
I don't doubt your claim as I suspect you've taken the time to research it.
The problem as I see it would be correcting and overruling the Immigration Officer who is positive such a thing doesn't exist.

Any wanting to learn about India or Russia could gain a lot of information from this British fellow who's posted scores of his travel videos on YouTube.
He calls his channel Bald and bankrupt. He speaks Russian fluently and converses well in Hindi.
Very entertaining.

Hahaha you've been hit by, you've beenstruck by a smooth criminal, lol.<deleted> me mate, go hang out in Shopping Centres, restaurants, and meet a lady that has some self respect mate, not a blood sucking leech. She will be trying to do this across 4timezones, thats all they are good at. You will purchase her a motorbike, Iphone and tablet etc which she will somehow dutifully lose or get stolen all the time, extra of course will be needed becausegrandma or mama has a life threatening disease, and of course the absolute piece de resistance, the water buffalo has a <deleted> broken leg, hahaha. Also the motorbike will have its green book taken by a loan shark because she has refinanced the <deleted>. Take my advice, love is security for these <deleted> nothing else, I repeat nothing else, you will continually feel like your the second or third class person in this relationship. Generally it all comes unstuck when you decide to stay longer than a week or two, as she then has to start communicating with the other guys across the world, she can only say she has to go to jungle with no telephone reception for a short while, I guess by now your getting my drift. Take your time mate. Find an educated lady, they are so much easier on you at the end of the day. If a bar girl or thai freindly or Badoo girl can speak good english, or play good pool and has tattoos <deleted> run Forrest run. Better of sponsoring a Uni student at least they are trying to improve their lot. My girl has her own job own car own money and tries to pay her way for everything, I dont let her, I tell her to pay her car off sooner, she is a real diamond. Oh these uneducated barwhores from Isaan gamble your hard earned cash away without a thought as to how long it took you to make. Wise up Forrest.
Your girl sounds different.

At this rate you'll end up living in a shoe box on a rubbish dump or perhaps a golf course.
THat's what it looks like to me.
Having all one's possessions in a suitcase or two lacks appeal.
Then add in the hassle of looking for a new apartment every so often and dealing with rental deposit refunds and etc.

Your condo gets involved in your immigration status beyond just reporting your TM30?

You are retired. You have the time, what's the hurry?. You have the financial requirements - generally the biggest hurdle. All you need to do is to make sure you have all the required paperwork - photos less than 6 months old, medical certificate less than 7 days old, proof of where you live.
Why throw 10-20k baht at an agent? It's been "rumored" that at some immigration offices stress can be laid upon an applicant.
Haven't you read of such happenings?

It's been mentioned many times, truth is it's easier and cheaper to just rock up and stay on holiday extensions for three years, then leave for a day and repeat.
So let me get this straight. A person can fly to the PI and stop off at a government agency (immigration?) and establish a bond for the sum of 14,000 USD and "get residency with all the benefits of citizenship, except voting, for as long as they want. And when they want to give it up, they get their money back"?
On the face of it, it definitely sounds like it falls in the category of "if it sounds too go to be true..."
What say you? I only ask about that 14K claim.

So I figured I'd mock up sending a 2 lbs package from California to both Cebu and BKK with exactly the same dimensions and details using my preferred re-shipper, Planet Express... And interestingly, the quoted prices for both PE's own airmail service and their USPS Priority and Express services were IDENTICAL going to either Cebu or BKK, right down to the cent.
What did sending 2 lbs set you back to each location?
Several years ago I wanted to send a few dental supplies to a lovely and nearly fell over when the UPS guy told me it'd be 95USD. She never got the supplies since I didn't send them.

In the Philippines, a foreigners from many countries can buy a bond for about $14,000 (that amount may have changed) and get residency with all the benefits of citizenship except voting for as long as they want. When they want to give it up, they get their money back. They can even use an investment instead of a bond but the bond is easier for most.
Funny how that hasn't been mentioned earlier in all the discussion threads about alternative countries to Thailand.

Showing 800k or 400k baht in the bank is not needed if you can show 65k baht being transferred from abroad for a few months this year.
You can use the 65k baht income option to apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement. Just show a bank statement from the bank showing the 65k baht coming in and a letter from the bank to validate your account.
An update on Phuket Town Immigration.
An acquaintance , on hearing of the changes , started bringing in 65k from the US in January , only a few days after reading the ruling.
So he had 4 deposits when he applied to extend his Retirement Visa last week. He also had about 250k in baht in his bank here.
He was refused , "not enough payments" being the reason.
Last I heard he was going back to the US to make a new Retirement Visa based on 800k in a US bank.
Does TI care about what a person deposits in a USA bank?

Unfortunately, I've heard from close sources of mine, that now - if they deny you entry - it means they don't just turn you back. It means you are sent to the detention jail under Bangkok airport until you can work out a flight back to your home country. I do not want to take that risk.
Hopefully, you'll post back and tell the forum how it all turned out.
If I were in your place I wouldn't take a chance with such unknowns.
Get caught up and who knows where it leads? TIT
Who would you call upon seeing an injury or fatal accident?

That's a wise idea, Bill. I personally took a photo of all the numbers to keep as a reference and asked the Mrs. to do it as well. I hope I never have to use the numbers and hope I don't run across a scene such as the one I did ever again.
