Don't forget lawyers, airline pilots and astronauts. Outside of Angeles I read it's the world's highest concentration.

  2. I called them and they acted like they could care less. Just like with BBC and ASN. So all the shows you have been loyal to are cancelled. Idol cancelled on Thai TV.

    SUCH A CORRUPT ORGANIZATION.

Please complain with calls and emails.

Star World is owned by Murdoch and Fox.

Whats the difference who its owned by?

If True want to cancel the channel for whatever reason, they can.

If Star World wants to cancel True's license, they can.

If you do not like the programming you either change or cancel.

NO matter how much you scream and shout that TV must do this and that, it is company's choice what to show and it is consumers choice what to watch and subscribe to.

    .

Sometimes customer feedback either of a positive or negative nature results in a company making changes.

  3. Is your wife Thai? As if so, she is already covered under Thailand's universal health care scheme. (As is her son). Which is why insurance costs are so high in Thailand, very few Thais bother with it as they all have cover already.

Of course, the government scheme will only cover her care in government facilities. So if your goal is to ensure she can get care in private hospitals then yes, private insurance would be needed. I just mention this as many expats are not aware that Thailand has universal health care coverage for its citizens. It is a comparatively new thing.

    .

Thanks for the reply Sheryl. Yes she is Thai. I'm aware of the medical system in place for Thais. Her family has had to avail themselves so many times for her son. And yes my goal is to have more options available. I've been in a few (3) private hospitals as well as a Thai hospital for her son. While I have no criticism of the Thai system, I'd still like to have a few things available which I didn't see in the government hospital.

Overall, I don't have "sticker shock" here with the price of medical insurance. I pay far more than what Bupa, for instance, would charge for her coverage and I was under a company plan which offered free medical insurance at the time I retired some years ago. Things change and with the global (mostly)economy tanking as it did, I now pay a lot more than "free". Life is nothing but evolution so I just go with the program and try to smile.

  4. Wow it must have been some pretty serious fraud if he was sentenced to community service! Doesn't interpol have more important things to do then go after someone who skips out on community service like maybe some of those crooked banksters!

Which crooked "banksters"? The ones that haven't been accused of any criminal offences never mind been convicted?

    .

    That'd be a start.

It appears that this was a case of people relieving a thief of the money he got through thievery. So agree no theft.

    No theft??

  6. Learned to drive in Canada/Ireland

have driven in - UK, France, Italy, Portugal, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico (cancun, pvr, mazatlan), Dominican Republic, Laos, Thailand, Morocco, Tunisia, Jamaica, Belgium and a few other places.

Best thing I did was get de-programmed from my western brainwashing on how to drive. Makes going for a spin here much more relaxing. Yes everything you have listed applies to driving in Dog-Leg-Shire, South Yorkshire but hey that is what I love about Thailand. I am a good enough driver that I don't need rules!

Try going for a spin in the far north east between Chiang Khan and Nakhon Phanom along the Mekong River Route. Truly one of Thailands amazing drives.

    .

I think this is what concerns many here...

"I am a good enough driver that I don't need rules!"

  7. Boners have been critical to human history.

What if the Pangolin produced some crazy Matrix powers boner? You know you want it.

Sure some people eating say Pangolin doesn't do that but have they actually tried it?

Eating oysters with their high zinc content is supposed to increase testosterone production and I have personally verified this as very effective.

So what if the Pangolin was beyond category sex power but none of these activist losers have ever tried it.

"What if it worked"? That phrase is essential to human history and the future of mankind.

  8. Lopburi, as a Star Member and Global Moderator I'm surprised that you don't read these posts a little better. I told you that I came here on a 1 year multiple visa. I <deleted> up my flights to KL and was asking the forum if there was anyway that I could get a visa same day. I intend to go to the UK in July and I thought that I would mention that I was leaving the country then. I'm sorry that I confused you!

Anyway I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a flight with Bangkok Airways from Samui on the 8th (I was also hoping that I could avoid this expense)

    Thanks anyway

    Tony

I don't find your post altogether easy to understand from a clarity standpoint either.

Maybe it's just me and Lopburi3

  9. I pass no comment on killing the snakes, but I let this one go:

This guy would probably be a cause for me to change my pants if I found him in the back yard.
  10. .

Time to call back Steve Irwin a good fellow for sure.

I like snakes but I don't want to deal with venomous ones unless there's glass separating us.

Come on Rick. I think more than a single days ration of good grub is in order for your 4 legged protector. 555

Since I don't have decent awareness of creatures in LOS I chose to be cautious. I'd never pick up a snake unless i was positive it was non venomous. I do pick up insects and spiders but I have greater confidence doing that.

  11. I'd like the Missus to have her own healthcare policy.

She's a few months short of 21 years and has no health issues.

I want to start off with a company to find out how well it works and after a year's trial, I'd add her young son as well. he does have a few health issues. I'm OK to cover those costs out of pocket in the meantime.

I'm too old to join any healthcare plan probably anywhere but I already have full coverage from my home country anyway from my previous company.

I think Bupa and LMG go head to head for customers here in LOS.

Any thoughts or opinions as to which has an advantage or disadvantage over the other?

We're located in Issan although I'd hope that wouldn't matter.

    TIA

  12. I think the throwing of water at motor bikes on high speed roads should be banned in all of Thailand.

As for throwing it from the back of pick ups what is the point if riding back there just allows you to be a victim to streets lined with people throwing buckets of water at you such as we get here in Chiang Mai.

Why dont we just "BAN" Songkran alltogether. we are becomming a police state slowly but surely.

Some politictions are paid to cover up the truth. Some are

paid to confuse the public. Some are paid to sell new ideas and theories!

Whatever the case, the bottom line is crowd controle.

Yes because thinking of safety makes it a police state.

Its quite ok to outlaw dangerous stuff like throwing water at bikes from pickup-trucks or just from the street.

But hey don't worry it will never be enforced.

Yes I agree water is very dangerous and should be banned during Songkran because it causes a lot of dirty people to become clean people.
    .

I think those not so happy with Songkran are concerned about things other than dirt. And I trust you realize under certain circumstances, water can be very dangerous.

  13. I always think that I maybe replying to one person, but that the answer will be read by many, some of whom may find it useful.

I suppose it could be thought of as a form of social service. If our experiences can help make even one persons life a little easier, then maybe that is already reward enough.

    Well done!

I think you have it right FWIW. It really is a social service with the search function that I'm unable to master. If, for example, I should pose the question of "can I buy Simple Green in LOS", the answer stays available for others in the future.

I do like and appreciate courtesy so for those occasions where I fail to give proper appreciation I sincerely apologize.

This forum and others like it are a valuable source for information.

  14. Ingenious city planning meets smart car owners in oversized pick ups. Hope you gonna be stuck on Beach Road all day long soon.

Care to explain what you mean, please?

I think this thread's been a friendly offering of opinions and mostly void of the usual TV aggression and negativity. I don't understand your post.

  15. .

Yesterday the Missus and I headed off to our bank. WE found the bank parking lot was completely full. I told her it was fine with me if we parked a block away from the bank and walked back. WE found virtually no place to park on the street. I'd never really paid attention in the past but I saw then that not only were all places on the street taken but cars and trucks had formed a secondary area on the street to park which blocked in the cars next to the curb.

The Missus headed off to a different branch of the bank.

Thinking about this I wondered about what plans are being made to accommodate the increase in auto traffic in LOS. I know our local city had a fairly substantial parking garage that the powers that be decided could better serve the city if it was torn down and more retail and hotels were put in its place.

Are some cities making plans for the inevitable increase in congestion due to the greater number of vehicles on the road?

The more you learn about something then you realize you really don't really know anything about it.
